Great programme. Does anyone know of another UK band to have 22 chart hits in one year in the states ?

I must admit I could only find via one source for graphite paint on e bay when I looked a few years ago. I'd be interested in hearing if anyone else has other sources

Well.... Playing the Dog and Duck this Saturday night just gone. One guy becomes progressively more p****d as the night goes on, falls over twice....... before he falls for the third time against the speaker stand stage right, which in turn falls and misses the guitarist by two foot or so. The speaker stand looked bent at the time. I checked it the next day however and it appeared straight. I was none too happy about the potential damage to my FBT front of house speaker thought, as they're over £1200.00 for the pair I must admit I thought about much of the discussion covered above the following day

I'd love to take a walk around there. How do you go about it ?

I'm very often involved in three/four part harmonies and the occasional lead vocal in the current band and earplugs can impair or occlude the upper mid or higher frequencies to a point that it's difficult to pitch correctly. That's why I wonder if others have found a solution to hearing protection that allows those with impaired hearing of the upper register to listen the the upper mid or higher frequencies in a useful way.

Now then One of the joys of increasing age is, for many of us, the loss of ability to distinguish higher frequencies (along with the aching backs and creaking joints). Health related issues are just one of the contributing factors that can accelerate impairments to hearing abilities. There's also the contributions from our occupations that lead to deterioration of hearing ability. In our case, the drummer, guitarist, shouting wife etc.... How is this taken into account when selecting ear defenders ? For the sake of discussion; if your ability to hear higher frequencies is impaired, are those same higher frequencies more difficult to hear (compaired to the other sound on stage) if you wear ear defenders with a flatter frequency profile ? Do you select the filters for your ear defenders that let more higher higher frequecies through ? if you do this. are you running the risk of further hearing loss of higher frequencies from the relatively decreased protection ? would this lead to an increase in tinnitus ? So how do you select the correct filters for your ear plugs if you have hearing loss ? Genuinely interested to hear (ahem) what people have to say about this Over to you (pardon ?)

Once again buying things from John, this time and double bass stand and an acoustic guitar effects box. Once again, both items in good condition at a nice price. As you have already identified one error in the neck pocket construction; - You could fit the neck in the pocket and check for correct alignment with strings fitted (but not tight !). - Also, you may wish to check the scale length is correct with the neck fully home in the pocket - just to ensure all will go as expected, you could also check that the screws enter the neck vertically. Any error here will have implications for holes in the body Then, Once neck is at the desired position in the neck pocket, mark the end of the body on the rear of the neck (a piece of tape carefully applied will give a nice line). Note if there's any discrepancy between the side of the neck and the side of the body, you will have to allow for this later if there is a difference Using tracing paper (or greaseproof paper does just as well), trace the back of the neck using your tape mark as a reference point. Ensure you mark all sides of the neck as well as the screw holes Apply decorator's masking tape to the rear side of the body over the neck pocket area. Place the paper to account for any discrepancy found between the side of the neck and body. Then use light pressure to transfer your tracing marks to the masking tape (make sure you don't turn it over !) Double check everything. Think twice, cut once Good luck with the project

Well, I finally caved in a bought the 6 string from Ray, as the price was too good to resist for such a good bass (I know I shouldn't have played it when I collected the 8 string !) It's a pleasure to catch up again Ray, thanks for some great basses
