NBD - Fender American Original 60s Jazz - Sonic Blue
MungoBass replied to MungoBass's topic in Bass Guitars
I think that is an interesting option.....and probably the best option as a backup for the tort. I’ll order one and next time I change the strings (in a few years knowing me!) I’ll change the pickguard and it will feel like a new bass day all over again! -

Fender reportedly lays off hundreds of California employees

Perhaps energy company executives and managers could be the new decorators! -
As reported in Guitar.com yesterday. Many levels of staff and management involved and with around 300 employees laid off, that is equivalent to an ‘entire afternoon shift’. Very sad day for those employees. It will be interesting to see what happens to stock levels and development, hopefully nothing too untoward.

Not helpful!!! 😁 I have 3 problems, one of which (can you guess which one?) sadly makes it impossible at the moment; 1 - I accidentally bought a Maruszczyk last week 2 - I have two Jazz basses up for sale and I really should sell one of those before buying another bass 3 - The wife is around this weekend

Stupid thought time - apologies in advance! The thread has been responding to tone but what about the effect of gauge on action action? I always find I can set the action lower when using flats as opposed to rounds.....is that generally because of the extra tension, meaning less vibration? Then, would it follow that using an identical brands 105s compared to 90s, you can set the action lower due to the extra heft and possibly increased tension, meaning less vibration? I appreciate there would need to be nut/neck/saddle tweaks to get the best possible results but do wonder if anyone has noticed the ability to go to a lower action with heavier strings? As I said in the opening.....stupid thought time!

I’m very late to this topic but did briefly have two early Metro Expresses. One JJ and one hybrid. Both suffered from excessive hum, poor finishing (pickguard to control plate gaps) and very poorly finished frets. So much so that if I had been asked to do a blindfold test on a £99 Harley Benton I had at the time and a ME, I would have thought the rough fret ends belonged to the HB, not the ME. The HB had way better finished frets. I also didn’t like the massive increase in volume when switching from passive to active - personal thing - but haven’t experienced the same issue with Shukers or some Fenders I’ve owned. The best thing about them was probably the gig bag. Very disappointing and not what I expected from Sadowsky or RSD as they were labelled. I’m sure (hope) the later versions are better.
