1. Just bought a Peavey valve power amp from Chris - lovely piece of kit (and the Peavey's not bad either) Seriously though, great guy to deal with.
2.
Here is the gig guide for the Star at Bentworth. This is a very small country pub in rural Hampshire. Definitely a gig that’s off the radar for all but local-ish bands. Check out the gear in the photos; GB, Warwick, Mesa Boogie. "Decent gear” is getting gigged all over. http://www.star-inn.com/gigguide.htm

Nice picture of Jules Benjamin
And a pic of BC member Pete Stroud playing one of his own basses with Papa George.
3. Not 100% sure they fit the label but my favourite in that funky/soulful jazzy style was Working Week.
4. Come on guys, serious BASS related issue being discussed here, plenty of threads for the politics of the causes of this dismay.
5. Very pleased to see this: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-14458505 as the owner of Rockbottom is an old friend of my mate who runs my local music shop. Apparently he was in the shop at the time and they tried to torch it but he managed to put the fire out but couldn't save any of the gear.
6.
Listen with your ears. Your eyes will stitch you up something chronic
So, so true! Don't some people call it the toilet test - what the band sounds like when you're in the pub toilet is what they really sound like - not what you think they sound like when you're in front watching them? I remember experiencing this once watching one of Suffolk's biggest self promoters - didn't realise why all the other muso's were so rude about him until he spectacularly failed the above test!!
7. Big fan of the Faces, and in fact, among all the Dylan we do "How Come" in our set. Got a feeling that the Jerry Garcia Band weren't exactly a bastion of sobriety Think I'm going to work on a similar idea as yours to pin it down a bit more whilst putting in some appropriate flurries.
Senor is one of my fave Dylan songs (well, at least one of my faves off Street Legal ). I've just joined a Faces tribute band and, although my style is quite melodic anyway, I find that Ronnie Lane's lines often leave behind any notion of rhythmic support of the song in place of a rather dubious harmonic exploration (presumptious, moi?). I put this down to the fact that the band were absolutely plastered most of the time anyway, so I'm trying to retain some of the sense of his harmonic playing while pinning down the songs a little more firmly. +1 for the shout out for Mark Andes - great work on The Family That Plays Together too.
8. Found the clip and now had time to listen to it on headphones, some strange old stuff going on here - not quite sure what to make of it. Any John Kahn fans out there?
9. Band I'm in is adding the Jerry Garcia version of Dylan's "Señor" to our repertoire. I'm used to being a full on driving rhythm player and this is all odd little runs and fills. Looking forward to the challenge. Will post a YouTube link to the track when I'm not on iPhone (Luddite hasn't worked that bit out yet)!
10. So, now I'm nicely established in my current band I've decided to go retro (well, I'm retro already - just thought the gear should catch up)!! so have just just relieved Beedster of his Peavy Classic Valve Power amp and Zephead of his Digitech PB8 valve pre-amp/multieffect. Looking forward to putting this together with my Purple Chilli and hoping for a lovely vintage vibe! P Bass build to follow very shortly!
11. People may well be contributing without us realising it - don't forget, we need people to read the posts - the stats show a lot more people get involved this way than by actually posting. Not everyone feels comfortable putting their views out there, and some may feel intimidated by some of the responses - I asked once for some help with a song, just couldn't hear the changes properly and said so in the post. First response "listen to the record"! Yeah, thanks!! Fortunately faith was soon restored by a perfect notation by ChrisB. It is a shame that those that use the site but don't post are not seen as participating and therefore remain newbies for years!
12. I used to sell these - amazing guitars. I presume this is a Canadian built model? Have a great guitar bump on me!
13. Got to be without, although the one with isn't as bad as I was expecting on such a strong (and lovely) top.
14. You really don't want to stick with that Peavey Classic
15.
It is probably more construction methods that make it hard to fix, everything is surface mount an modular, so to fix, just replace whole relevant module. If you want a long term amp, get a handwired valve one on turrets.
I think you've been paying attention to previous posts of mine! Yes I would love to. Not hand wired, but I have been hankering after a Traynor for a while, seem like well priced amps, just that Thomann are the only "UK" dealer at the moment and aren't expecting stock for months! Been keeping a close eye on the f/s section as well. Just somehow the Class D route seems so much less hassle (if they work)!
16. Lots of interesting Class D amps around now, several sounding like the sort of thing I want. However, I had an early Yamaha BB500 (which I really liked) that one day just died on me. It was a few years old (4 may be 5) but hadn't been used much. I then found out that amp techs didn't stand a chance of fixing it as the technology was very different from what they worked with. So, two questions, How long have you been running a class D amp for? Have you found anyone who can repair them? Thanks, Mike

WOMAD!

Great stuff, many congratulations - and on the Charlie Gillett stage - what a great man!
18.
No Woman No Cry by Bob Marley
Oh Yes! Also, Maze, "Joy & Pain" Live in New Orleans - one for Bubinga5 and PeteAcademy there
19.
Likewise, really enjoyed the programme - getting much more into this more mellow stuff (I guess it is a sign of ageing) Thanks for the link Dave, although I'm not sure that entirely makes sense as it seems that there are clips from him from different shows (BBC and Sweden) using it - will have another trawl to confirm this.
No, my memory failing (back to that age thing) was the same Swedish clip used on the BBC show.
20. Great news Sam - look forward to the posts in "How Was Your Gig Last Night" in the near future!
21.
Going slightly off topic, I watched about 20/30 mins of the programme last night. Really enjoyed it & it took me back about 40 odd years as I remember one of my older brothers being into Joni Mitchell & CSNY & hearing these songs coming from his bedroom from his stereo. Great songs from a bunch of really talented people. Cheers, louisthebass
22. Will try and find a better clip, meanwhile did anyone see the Byrds on the BBC 4 Documentary last night - a different clip here clearly showing Chris Hillman the same bass - Fender body with 2 a side headstock. Very odd!
23. I try and do it, especially at the supermarket as you often see first hand the rubbish these staff in particular have to put up with. Good thread!
