1. Ah, but the thread title is 'Weird and Wonderful Basses'. If 'twas 'Weird and Totally Sh*t Basses made by a Sad Old Hippy' then they'd be in there at #1 with a musket-ball, yarr.
2. BB2k... did you get your hands on the baby EA in the end? If so, how are you getting on with it? Also... are you still loved up with the G-B Neopak? How about knocking up a review or two for the Reviews forum? I'd be very interested to know what living with the Neopak is like.
3. Any more news? Following this with interest... would like to try the Genz stuff myself.
4. Vocal preamps & channel strips make for great bass preamps. I've recorded through a TLA 5051 in the past and the sound was lovely. I thought about getting one, but it didn't really fit in with my desire to downsize.
5. 1st one -- all the info is lifted completely verbatim from the Wal database... smells worse than a dead fish in the sun, if you ask me. Who the hell would describe their own bass as "it's the PB1839" for god's sake? 2nd one looks kosher.
6. This is looking great. It's nice to see this being restored so well -- I always liked the SB1000s and harboured a secret desire for one myself.
7. Or if you don't have the tools/facility/wherewithall, give the blurb to someone who has and get them to build it. Worth a try... everyone on here who's built an Omni 10 or whatever has raved about it.
8. Well, that would have made an incredible rig for 250 quid..!
9. You can't beat that for 200 quid, eh? What a looker.
10. Anyone else spot the advert in this month's BP mag? Chuck's love affair with Phil Jones' daleks seems to have been somewhat fleeting... he's proudly endorsing Genz Benz gear now. I wonder if this topic will prompt a scathing "you're just a nobody" attack from PJB..?
11.
Yamaha RBX basses are well worth a look
RBXs are standard spacing at the bridge, same as the TRBs. Well mine is, anyway. The Yamaha BB5000 has a narrower spacing.
12. Yes, I think it's more important that the ramp matches the pickups rather than the f/board.
13. Nick, if you'd like to get in contact, I can let you have the phone number of an Exclamation Mark Addiction advice centre. They can help you kick your habit, although I fear it may be too late.
14. I first put one on my Status as a trial run... it worked so well I had Jon Shuker put one on my J5 when he made it.
15.

Either your fence gradually gets taller, or the basses become inexplicably smaller...
16. Ah Mr.S, I've been expecting you *strokes white cat*
Where's Rich?!
That'd be me
17. Keys, decent drums, hen's teeth.
18. At last, I've finally got to grips with some of this digital malarkey. I've spent a few hours mucking about with Audacity and come up with the tune 'Tears' on my MySpace... I really wish I could say I wrote it, but unfortunately not, it's a Brian Bromberg tune... I just used as a tester really. It's as rough as a badger's arse in places, but OK for a first attempt. It's just drums and Shuker... the bassline was done with both pickups in twincoil mode with a tad of bass and treb boost and a wee bit of mid cut. The main melody is the neck pickup tapped & bridge twincoil, with the bass rolled off a bit and a touch of reverb. I cheated with the higher doubled melody bit... cut, paste, pitchshift.
We have a big fat karaoke book with us and an open invitation for anyone to get up an play if they want to .. works a treat .. Rich from this very forum got up a while back, bassed Mustang Sally for me so I could show off on sax for a few bars
Yeah, and the buggers made me take a solo too
20. Phwoarrr etc.
21. Not a handsome pickguard, 'tis true, but easily taken off. I think it's a gorgeous instrument. For me, the side LEDs make it all the more desirable.
22. I use a 3500 as my backup/rehearsal amp, it's bloody marvellous. Top sound, absolutely punchy as feck.
23. Depends how you like your funk I guess. I remember reading an interview with Neil Peart, where he said that Phil Gould was one of his favourite drummers.
24. This is just gorgeous... just imagine that with a 3ft deep shine on it

Which do you use?

I did do the rack thing -- might still do again -- but at the moment I'm just using a wee multi-FX job for my sounds.
