1.
It is a bit of an old chestnut, this.
No, it can't be. Squirrels don't like chestnuts. Nor do badgers or magpies.
  2. The main three:

Sheffield
Essex
High Wycombe
Others:

Taiwan
Korea
Carlisle
Germany
3. Hi and welcome I'm not a Reading bassist as such, but I lived there for the first 23 years of my life (well I lived in Shinfield actually, just the other side of the M4) and my dad still lives in Sonning, so does that count?
  4. Ooh look, there's a squirrel.

    PCB's
I'm getting together some stuff to make a few custom PCB's for people on the UK Guitar Buiders forum. Generally we're talking about small etched and drilled PCB's to put together a stompbox pedal - tubescreamer, micro-amp, compressor, treble booster, that sort of thing (-the simpler circuits!). If there's anyone frequenting this forum that's into making their own pedal or interested in having a go, and needs a pcb etching, let me know, and for a nominal fee to my Paypal account to cover consumables I will knock one out for you. Alternatively if you're interested in having a go yourself, I posted up a How-To guide somewhere, pm me and I'll sned you the link. I realise this is a particularly niche and geeky area so am not expecting floods of requests, otherwise I may have to go out and commandeer more lolly sticks and Chinese take-away containers for my production line.
Would you be able to do double-sided boards?
  6. Bought by mistake, the title says it all. A fiver posted.
  7. The problem with the meaningless word in reviews thing is... well, just how do you describe a sound or tone? What actual adjectives can you use to describe the sound a Jazz makes, or a P bass or a Stingray? It's got to be difficult. It's easy on a CD, you just play the damn thing... but in print? I like to think I'm reasonably good with words, but I wouldn't have a clue where to start. For me, the main problem with reviews isn't the descriptions per se; it's the occasional factual errors, and the lack of teeth (as others have mentioned). But again, I guess it must be difficult to do without alienating the manufacturers.
  8.
Ooh get her.
Yes, I spotted that too. I think there are some other subliminal messages in Dood's post...
Brian May feel my Doodle
See what I mean?

  10. What goes with a Jeff Berlin Combo? Errm... fries and a shake..?
  11. I like the blocks and the coloured h/stock. Shame it's not a Jazz...
  12. Excellent! I look forward to hearing about it and seeing the pics after you pick it up. In August.
  13.
For some reason or another i always had Dee Murray down for that one [ and i am proberly wrong] Anyone know who it actually was? So far we have... Pino, David Paton and Dee Murray. Help Garry
Pretty sure it isn't Pino. Wrong sound for starters, he was still Stingraying all over the place back then. Is it just me, or is there some slightly wobbly intonation in places (always sets my teeth on edge when I hear the song)..?
  14.
FWIW, I don't much like the look of the Fly guitar. Yet I really like the look of that bass. And I'm a stodgy old Fenderhead. Weird.
Weird innit? Exactly the other way round for me. The Fly guitar is gorgeous -- if I was a guitard, I'd have a Fly and an old Tele and that'd be it -- but the bass just looks too chubby in the butt. If only the production basses looked like Steve Swallow's prototype... now that's proper wacky
  15. I have two TWs on my Shuke, they're nice pickups BUT be aware that the single coil output is quite a bit lower than the full humbucker output. I'm actually thinking of getting mine changed for Delanos when I've got the necessary luncheon vouchers. EDIT: love that body shape.
  16. Typical ain't it? It's only just down the road from me (well, sort of), but I don't want/need it.
  17. Trace rig for 300 sovs? Strikes me as a pretty good deal. BTW I am in no way affiliated with the seller. Just thought I'd better point that out!
  18. If you're on a tighter budget, the Artec SE2 may be worth a look.
  19. Another +1 for Abba. Cheesy pop for the most part, but brilliant cheesy pop. For my money, Dancing Queen is the perfect pop song. Charlotte Church's 'Call My Name'. Great bass, with a nice fat farty synth part in the verses and that slap'n'pull in the bridge parts. The song is utter dross though.
  20.
Steve Lawson's got the right idea.
I think he tried to fire himself via text once, but then he agreed to meet himself at a neutral pub to try to iron out both his difficulties. It's all sorted now.
  21.
Unlucky...... At least it was done by a person!!! Scarred for life???
No, I'm doing OK. I'm finding that I'm becoming less and less reliant on the Jane-shaped voodoo doll, and the dartboard with Duncan's gurning face on it. And it's only taken 29 years so far. Jane and Duncan actually got married eventually. Some years later, they got divorced. When I found out, I chuckled a bit. I'm going to Hell for that, aren't I?
  22.
It's as bad as the old chestnut of being dumped over a text in the old days of school.
Ah, not like it was back in my school days. We had none of yer fancy speaktext or interwebnet. No, back then she got her mate to come and tell you that you were dumped, only for her to immediately start going out with bloody Duncan Bright instead, just 'cos he was better at sport and stuff, yeah well thanks a bunch Jane. Errm, apparently.
  23.
It's a Dave Lee Roth/Van Halen tribute band If you can't appreciate why wigs and spandex might be integral to the look, then maybe you are best out of it.
Well yes, up to a point. If yorick had been playing the frontman role, then yes the wiggy spandex thang would be fairly vital. But Michael Anthony wasn't exactly known for his flowing tresses or glittery frocks. Billy Sheehan, now there's a different kettle of mullets.
  24. I could do without the 'kick' at the tail, but I like the way the top horn goes to a point. Yeah, I could definitely live with it. Thinking cap on re: name.
  25. I used Status Hotwires for yonks, then tried Warwick Reds for half the money and found that they were definitely better than half as good, in fact I think they are as good. So have used them ever since. Cheap strings aren't everyones cup of char I know, but then again neither are Elixirs.
