I've always sung and played, mostly BVs but some lead, so to be honest I find it's second nature these days. Although it does definitely depend on the complexity of the bass part. Quite how Mark King does it sometimes is beyond me -- whether you like his playing style or loathe it, you have to admit that his ability to sing over complex bass parts is second to none.
But talking and playing? Forget it. I find it next to impossible.

Well, the one is about as tasty and nutritious as the other...
EDIT: Probably.
Well, in a moment of madness at the bass guitar show yesterday I went and bought the classic J model on the Bass Merchant stand. The build quality and finish are excellent especially considering the price. It sounds good too and there's quite a variety of tones avaible. One feature that I like is that instead of the two volume controls and one volume control that you'd find on a standard jazz, there is a master volume, a pickup blend and a tone control.
looking forward to rehearsal tonight so I can see how it sounds with the band.
Here's some pics

Oh god, that is gusset-dampeningly lovely. I want a 5 string just like that one please.
Ahem, shall we try this one all over again chaps? All posts except the OP deleted. And as a reminder...

Likewise. If it doesn't clash with anything, I'm your huckleberry. Might even bring the Wal

Because people keep going

It wasn't a bass I'd bought, but I still remember finally getting to try an original Steinberger cricket bat after ages of wondering how amazing they must be given all the hype...
...to this day, it remains the single most horrible instrument I have ever laid my hands on.
Come to think of it, I'm not 100% sure I want to part with it
In which case, don't. Or you'll start kicking yourself the moment it leaves your hands.
We had our first ever heckler at last night's gig. A man on crutches complaining about our material. It concerned me slightly, until I overheard him afterwards telling someone that he was off to a rave, and would then be getting on a plane to 'Libyeria' to go rescue some people...

I agree entirely.

If I recall it correctly, didn't the Rev.Green give Tony Goggle a fearful kicking outside a Starbucks many years ago in an argument over a tin of pineapple chunks?

No chance. I get to stand behind Sian and Abi while they shake their collective booties... I ain't swapping my view for nothin'.
- No camaraderie. Not at rehearsals, or at a gig. Feels like 5 individuals, not 1 band
For me, this alone is reason enough to walk away. No bond, no band, no point.
One of these days, i will give up bands for good.
It will be either
a} when my hands become too arthritic to play, or
b} when i become too old and frail to lift a bass, or
c} when they screw the lid down.
