I'm in a 13 piece band, so once it's divvied up it's comes to near enough bugger-all anyway plus we do a few charity gigs that really do pay nothing. So yes, I would, and nearly do, play for now't. But if it started costing me [i]large[/i] amounts of folding, then in the current circumstances i'd have to reconsider.

Some of the Tobias Pro basses were absolute belters. I had a sixer that was beautiful, wish I hadn't flogged it. The pickups can be weedy, but 275 is an absolute bargain. Lovely bit of flame in that body wood too. Looks like a great bass for little money.

I've played fives since 1993 or so, and do so pretty much exclusively these days. I'm sure it could easily be argued that I don't NEED that 5th string. But I prefer having it, and I use it so much that I voted 'Yes'.

Agreed, a good low wattage iron is all you need for wiring. Gas irons are really useful though, and if yours has actually melted I reckon it could be faulty -- I have a trusty old Antex Gascat 75 which has certainly never got anywhere near melting, even after protracted use. Have you had it long? Might be worth taking back if not.

I was in a blues-rock trio many years ago, was an absolute hoot and I really miss it. Gary Moore's back catalogue is worth raiding, I always particularly liked playing 'Walking By Myself'. Also how about ZZ Top's 'I Need You Tonight'? Very chilled out, and a great excuse to drop D Yeah yeah, it's not Proper Blues, but who cares as long as it's fun?

You could always wait for an Epi Bird to turn up on eBay for 'spares or repair', with the usual broken-headstock problem. There was one the other day, can't find it now so it might have ended.

That's a cracking bass tone, really brutal. Just a shame about the rest of the song... oh dear, what a fearful racket.

I've been lucky too, over the years [i]all[/i] the drummers I've played with have been really nice guys, they've all been good and one or two have been astonishing. There's nothing quite like the feeling of locking in with a good drummer... Getting a groove going, feeling it drive along, sharing a quick glance and knowing exactly where that fill is going and nailing it perfectly... Nothing makes a band sound really tight quite like a good close Engine Room. Damn, I love my job
