SImple question - How can these guys get away with making the best Ric fakers ive seen and they get sold in shops, yet Ric "seem" to be more interested in going after people doing private deals for old 70's and 80's fakers? Dont know if its ever been discussed so please enlighten me! By the way yes I own two Rics and I love them, but I really dont care about people making / selling fakers etc - hardly affects the sale of Fenders and Gibbo's from what ive seen:)
Unfortunately I think Dan's house is the only place you can try one [/pedantic] Truckstop
I got to play it at my own house... Amazing what a bribe of tea and biscuits can get you! In fact... I might end up playing this again on Tuesday... -
Actual massive LOL at that headstock. Cheers guys

Love Is The Law has a corking flowing bassline by Mr Fletcher (who I have sold Playstation games to, lol)

IMO you cant beat a Ric. They just float my boat and you can get a lot more tones out of them than just 'clank'. I do agree that you should try a few out though. I tried a load of old ones that were going for silly money and all but one played like sh*t (possibly not helped by the fact most shops dont seem to actually set up 2nd hand instruments that they are trying to sell) and eventually bought a 2011 4003 which was fantastic. That had to go back to Ric due to a flaky paint issue sadly so had to hunt again and took a punt on the one i have now without playing it first (had 30 day money back promise though) and it plays great. I would disagree that the colour doesnt matter, it matters a lot to me. Unless you intend to buy another one later My first Ric was only bought cos it was the right price, not the right colour... Cracking bass though, still got it.

Utterly dreamy. If i had the money I spent on my 4003 BG id be buying this... good price for this too. Spent ages looking for one in this colour, whoever wants it shouldnt hesitate in pulling the trigger.. they disappear quite quickly (Nick bought the last one I wanted on here while I was sorting my tan out on a beach - curses! haha )

Id go with 1) Rick 4003 - in particular the 2011 ones. Best bass ive ever played. If not try another 4003, there are good and bad ones out there... Ive been pretty lucky with mine. My 4003 went in for service recently... I was lost without it, when it returned, so did my "mojo" - lol. Much more versatile than people give them credit for, 2 PU's and separate tone pots means a wide range of tones, plus stereo etc. 2) The Doodle - some of you may have played this! Dan's Shuker is amazing : i really do not dig ERB's at all but that plays like butter and sounds phenomenal. Go see him at a bassbash 3) Fender P Standard - much like Ronseal in that it does what it says on the tin. If you cant gig with one of these you probably should consider switching to another instrument... ;-) 4) Gibson Les Paul Bass - the old Triumphs. An experience indeed to play one of these, does the EB3 sound but also successfully impersonates a Precision if you fiddle with it a bit! Looks incredibly cool too. Downside? Weighs as much as the USS Nimitz. 5) Wal - Ive never played one, so im intrigued!

Id have whatever one felt best. Ive played poor USA ones, ive played poor Jap ones etc etc. The more recent USA P's are excellent - I dont generally buy new basses but I did in that case (2009 model w/ new bridge), as it was better than anything else in the "P" mould that I tried, Jap, Mex or Squier.

Im really interested in one of these... I think i'd really get on with the neck as I love the slimmer neck on my 4003... but im thinking the list price of £800+ for these is somewhat steep when an American Standard (or Special) doesnt cost much more at all.
-
Hi Lee! Mine was coming away next to the underside of the bridge. Interesting to hear that another one from the same year had the same issue! I wouldnt have got rid of it if the paint hadnt started falling off there, its cos mine was new that i sent it back. Still probably the best Ric ive played... My BG one is awesome but the '11 had the best neck ive ever laid my hands on. Glad to hear you are enjoying yours!

The SVT 2 is the best ive ever heard in a live situation, im sure dood would still have his... If they didnt weigh as much as a house! There weere a couple on here for around the £700 mark, which is a good price for these beasts. The Mesa 400+ is a cracking amp as well, hard to say which is "best"... Id probably say the SVT 2 pleases my ears more.
