1. I gigged with one of these for quite some time, bought from new (£499 at the time probably 10+ years ago!) - brilliant tone from this. The "Eg" fell off the logo on mine so it just said "Amp" which my guitarist round very amusing. You can get a load of great tones out of this, I do love a proper old radial tone dial in setup. Brilliant amp, someone will be very happy with it.
2. Utter utter bargain, why is this still here???
3. Good golly gosh... never thought id see this happening old chap!
4. If there's an opportunity to get an HLF instead id give that a go. The port at the bottom will help "woof" your sound across the room. The effect a port has on a heavy wood cab is quite stunning. If you can, try the two against each other in a shop - hopefully you'll see what I mean

SOLD

Ive got one of these still! Used it for years as my main gigging bass, the neck on these is really nice - feels tapered just right to fit IMO. Mine is all black tho, this looks nicer
6. Matching headstock, lovely. I dont have room for two Jazzes but if I did, id be having this! really nice, GLWTS
7. Extremely sexy instrument.
8. That's lovely Chris, and in really good nick. You cannot, repeat, CANNOT beat proper Ampeg valve tone when using Precisions and Ricks. (IMO of course before someone says meh!) - Id love to hear mine through this! Someone buy this and give it a happy home (full of valvey goodness)
9. Ive got a touch of bleed in the top edge of the binding on my 4003...
10. Give "One Slip" on A Momentary Lapse Of Reason a listen, for Tony Levin's playing on it. Lovely choice of chords too - a little known tune in their catalogue, but one I grew up with.
11. Thats an amazing rig from the golden time of Ampeg, with celebrity providence, for less than either the amp or cab could cost on their own. A splendid deal for someone who needs, well, a lot of volume! Good luck with the sale.
12. You might wanna try out the TC stuff with TubeTone? I run a Ric ot a Jazz through my Staccato '51 and it sounds warm and full and they are *so* light
13. Jaydees deffo have it. A mate of mine had the Mark King sig and that had an XLR out prominently on the front of the bass, if memory serves me well.
14. I have my 4001 with the PU cover off and its easier to play than my 4003 which has the PU cover on it still. However one of my plucking fingers has occasionally ended up stuck in the hole (ooer missus) which isnt great. Or you can keep the PU cover on and not be able to do any palm muting with a pick. Pros and cons for every approach! In the words of Kryten : "Its those cute little flaws that keep a guy interested"
15.
I have no problem with Rick protecting their design rights. The problem I have is that Rickenbacker aggressively pursue private sellers of old Ricky copies that were made *before* Rickenbackers legal rights to protection were granted and who are not breaking any British laws, and all the while there are loads of shops openly selling modern Ricky copies who apparently just get left to it by John Hall. It's a joke.
+1 This is totally my appraisal of the situation. I can understand them going postal over new Ricky copies, but chasing private sales of old 70's Jap fakers that have already been sold once... twice... maybe multiple times? Thats just daft.
16. I found Elixirs really helped my tone, I tend to go for the bridge pickup only with treble on full and the amp doing the bottom end stuff. I guess the best way forward is to experiment with your EQ a fair bit, what works on your amp for one bass may not be the same for another - found that a few times!
17. Friend of mine had one of these, cracking bass. Seems to have quite a long scale but lovely necks on there.
18. Probably unceccesary bump coming right up... oh yeah here it is... BUMP
19. Yohoho... "Sold Pending"... Seems my gentle nudging has moved this along :-p
20. Hi all! First gig for my new band tonight, headlining at B2 @ The Brickmakers in Norwich. 3 great bands, free entry... We are all original grungerock, think Smashing Pumpkins meets Clutch and you aint far off. First band at 8pm, come and see something a bit different ;-)
21. I know someone on here who really really REALLY wants this and keeps talking about it... I think i need to give him a nudge
22.
That was at 1/3 with one rs210
Hahah, really? Playing your basically convinced me to buy mine Someone should snap this up, a mega amp, but do take care around any breakable glass
23. If you pick up a B2RE and stick a BSP or SVP in front of it you'll nail it just beautifully.
24. My 2011 jetglo Ric had paint falling off issues, sent it back to the shop and got my money back. No excuses for a firm to charge £1700+ for an instrument that cant keep its coat on! I think George (geofio) has had one recently (also jetglo... Hmmm!). Certainly wouldnt buy a new jetglo Ric now. Havent heard of any other colour finishes being affected?
