1. Fingers: Magical appendages that can simulate the sound of anything from a p bass through an overdriven ampeg to a super jazz through an swr. The result being that all bass players play exactly the same equipment while sounding wildly different.
2. I have three tone settings. Palm muting and thumb, fingerstyle, and pick. I am too OCD not to have everything up full
3. I find that the combined drive and compressor toneprints are too loud...but I did find just a simple drive one that works.
4. I used to make my own cables with Neutrik silent jacks and Van Damme cable. I was happy at first but then I A/B'd them with a cheapy cable of some kind...and the Neutrik equipped cables had noticeably less top end. The difference was akin to the difference between old and new strings. So being a rubbish solderer I got an electrical engineer friend make me a cable and that was exactly the same. So now I leave them well alone.
5. My TC BH550 with the Spectracomp toneprint turned up to 12 o'clock sounds great to my ears!
6. Chris Stapleton's album Traveller is simple amazing. An incredible mix of country/soul/blues. His voice...is...well...f***ing hell. Just do yourself a favour and listen to it. This post is brought to you by drunk Paul.
7. That looks absolutely awesome. Great job.
8. I think both of them were absolutely the correct bass player for their respective projects. I hate both of them...but there is no denying the impact they made.
9.
I made it through. I sold some non essential gear that I won't miss and kept the beautiful Sandberg bass. My Bass is safe for another year I think.
Yay! In more desperate times I was forced to unload a bunch of stuff to cash converters. I have never really recovered. Glad you made it
10. I'm 45. Physically I feel much, much older. Mentally I'm still a teenager.
11. Going by the music you play I would go for TV Jones Filter'trons.
12. Didn't he write Grapes of Wrath?
13. I'm just suspicious of people in general. Probably because I hate everyone and everything.
14.
Oh man, so jealous - Chris Stapleton's album was 1 of my most played last year, big fan of his Steeldrivers stuff too!
I'm totally smitten with him...such a song writer! What a voice! We're doing Tennessee Whiskey and Traveller in our set And Drink a Beer which he wrote for Luke Bryan...so technically three CS songs
15. Going to the Country 2 Country festival at the o2. Will be seeing Eric Church, the unbelievably awesome Chris Stapleton... and some others I guess.
16. I've been here on and off since Bassworld. Like any online community, occasionally the trolls start to win and then I disappear for a while. But I will always keep popping in and when the dust has settled (and the twats have left) I become more active again.
17. Yes. I recently discovered modern country and it has quite literally changed my life. A bit.
18. @Beer you're totally correct...my nice Shubb capo keeps popping off! It's fine in most positions but we're doing a song that needs a capo at the 6th fret! It's a pain to put on and keeps popping off I've just ordered one of those cheap elastic ones off the bay to see if that works. Totally gutted I can't use the Shubb...it's an awesome looking brass contraption
19. Just fitted some Martin custom lights to it and they have made a world of difference, natch. I still probably need to spend a few weeks lifting pints and crushing paper cups with my left hand to build up some strength but judicious use of a capo will limit the amount of barre chords I run into.
20. Very cool... ...although this guitar is for a country duo/band I was aiming for something with a bit of a Willie Nelson's trigger feel. (Minus the nylon strings of course.)
