For me, the nicest sig bass out ther is Yves Carbonne's 12 string Fretless Jerzy Drozd bass, but I doubt many 'copies' of it have sold, so think it probably doesn't qualify as a 'Signiture' bass? After that, its a close tie between my old 'Pedulla MVP5 Signiture' or the Shuker 'JJ Burnell' P bass? Think the Ped would win, even if it doesn't have a specific persons name attached to it. Its still a Signiture bass! Does Dan's 7 string 'Dood bass' count as a 'Signiture' bass? Cheers G!
The sub contra is a lovely bass, they play so nicely! I've played Yves one at a clinic-y thing he did was great! And The Doodle is Dan's signature bass so i'd say so
James Lomenzo's Yamaha is pretty nice - you could move a lot of air with that, I reckon.
Well they might be avaliable in the next few years as a limited edition Yamaha Attitude avaliable in the UK only. But you didn't hear that from me!
Yup. I Quite like mine. Didn't buy it for the Sheehan connection, just because it felt good and was (extremely) well made/finished. Still haven't ironed out a good string choice for it (I hate Roto rounds), but am considering flats/tapewounds for it..
I love it when you get this piccie out I loved sheehans tone, played one, had the same edge (naturally but i was checking it wasn't his fingers!) and i fell in love with the neck and body shape and the brightness. I love roto rounds BUT i had some roto flats on, and some Elxiers on and they were nice, a lot mellower the Elixers. Attitude + Flats = Tone which sounds and feels like being punched in the gut!

Where can you buy Bartolini pickups in the UK?
AttitudeCastle replied to Spoombung's topic in General Discussion
yourchoiceguitar definately! Adam is a great guy, and can get you any Barts you want! -
Do you need to ask my opinion? The Yamaha Attitude is my favourite 4 string bass hands down. I really like signature basses for some reason (even of players who i can't stand or bands i don't like so nothing to do with band love!) What's bad is people who play them just to copy people they idolise, using it in your own way to sound like youre self is fine! The John Myung two signatures are great, the orginal especially. Oh and you know that guy Dan Veall? His Shuker signature is a stunner

What bass is it for?

When was the last time you broke a string?
AttitudeCastle replied to WalMan's topic in General Discussion
I broke the C and F strings of a 7 string at the same time but the bridge was the cause as the guy who owned it had modded the bridge. Poorly. Other than that, never not even while tuning. I spoke to a guy who said he breaks B and E strings every 5 or 6 gigs. My first thought how?! -
Hey Andy, I see you'll have one soon though right? Yay!
DOOD. We are still waiting for your demo my friend And will you be reviewing the OTB with your 6 string? If you do i will buy you a cake Been wanting to hear or at least see someone with more than 5 strings use one!
Is this a common theme - bass players who are ex-trombonists? <Puts hand up too>
I'm still a trombonist! Like overwater#1 i'm a bass trombonist, doubling on contrabass but i'm also profecicent on Euphonium (played Euphonium for 9 years but i've focused on Bass trombone for the last 3 years and trombone in general for the last 7) and i can get by on Tuba. Takes ALOT of puff, and practise, don't expect to be playing walking sousaphone lines for a few months. I played Sousaphone in a zydeco band for a week when i was in New Orleans and in a jazzy style thing. I practise at least an hour a day to keep up embouchure, lung strength and breathing skills. I've taken that over to bass too, but i tend to just play bass and not practise certain things though. You'd want to be certain if you take the plunge as brass instruments hold much much less value second hand

He also has commented on someone elses channel he will be on britians got talent, sounds likely. Also claims to have just played Mr. Pink by Level 42 very well and says he doesn't practise much! My mum had a go at me half term for racking up around 45 hours of practise in a week... but hey music is everything to me!
do you have your own moat and drawbridge ?
No, as not all Castles have moats or drawbridges And it's also my surname Unless this lad (who can't be far from my age) has an unfortunate surname! EDIT: He is my age, 16 both of us born in '95

Are they good peices of wood? I've been thinking of sourcing a sunburst P-body from somewhere to start a project build and this has me intreguied!
-
Yep! A friend of mine has one, they are nice, similar feel to the SR 300 and 500 as the body and neck are almost identical (they may actually be identical haha!) He has the same one you linked too, and it looks VERY nice under normal lighting very silky and deep and on stage looks black and purple striped almost very cool! Classic SR sound from the pickups, i like it a little more than the MK1's but i seem to like Ibanez house pickups! The ceramic magnets add a kind of "hardness" and edge to the sound (not a full on in your face, but with Celestion speakers and a little bit of anger you can get a real mean hard sound) but it does soft and warm great. Neck pickup can sound quite P, the bridge quite J but mixed it's that kind of scooped mellow sound not so much a P+J sound. IIRC the pre-amp is decent (i think it's similar to the one in my BTB676) so can give you a reasonable amount of cut and boost but isn't too powerful to totally change the character of the sound you have from your hands and pickup, it doesn't have the intense treble you can get on many active EQ's even maxed (i find) it usable (but i have loads of treble in my sound but) and the Bass control can really get things phat. The mids control can get you that generic or classic depending how you see it slap or metal tone with no mids or can give you a little mid hump but if you find your self lacking in mids and you've got the bass/treble well up then you're out of luck if you aren't using one pickup solo'd. For the price i'd say it's a great bass, as are the rest of the SR's up to the 700 line if you're shopping on a budget and what not. Plus if you wanted later you could change the EQ for something with a more even response if you decided you wanted more/less whatever! Hope you get some use from that and don't see it as just some incoherent ranting! Haha!

Gibson Thunderbird, what are they like?
AttitudeCastle replied to deanbean502's topic in Bass Guitars
In response to the mention of Custom Shop Thunderbirds, I contacted Gibson a few months ago looking to get a slightly different finish, nothing difficult or fancy. The official response from them was that the Gibson Custom Shop won't do basses. At all. Ever.
The one i played was one which in it's past life was a back up for a Gibson Artist. Wouldn't surprise me though, another user on here i'm pretty sure asked them to do something and they said they'd do it for a greatly hiked price, and wouldn't put Gibson on the headstock, can't remember if that was a bass or not, assuming it's a guitar though. -
Lol I know of TROLLs, it's ok, I just mistaken you for one but maybe we were both abit of a grouch? Water under the bridge anyway, you seem a cool guy I believe that you have to keep searching and trying different models until you find the one for you, after all, every piece of wood is different. I have tried a few of the standard selection and I can see what you mean by the necks, they do collect abit of grime and sweat but ive never experienced this as they're pretty clean and out of the box condition, my own I look after and clean often. I agree some epi's could kick the sh*t outa the Gibson versions but I look towards the foreseeable future and think which I'd be happier with and which is going to last, hence a few gibsons in my arsenal and my eye out for a custom shop.
Haha yes indeed! And you too Though why would you be interested in my Mum? She's a hag! -
I agree BigRedX! If they did something new with it, and actually gave reasons for it, other than "lookit! It's made of metal it is!" I think i'd be more sold on the idea, i'm certain there are great great basses made in such a way, they just need to be done better in a different way for them to ever really go anywhere i think!
