3.
It's hard to imagine something so unlistenable. But I did it anyway. D:
Opinions opinions now! (Sheehan fan alert)
 4.
Ok here's one - and this is the thing that I would be most interested in hearing about - what if a custom build doesn't turn out exactly as you hope? Has this happened to anyone?
Many times! Just look through the for slae thread and you'll find a good few!
 5.
May I ask, what are the advantages of having a custom build?
Well it's custom! Thats the advantage, you can have a personal twist on on your favourite bass so say a neckthrough Jazz bass for example or something no one else makes so a totally custom shape with custom wound pickups for you with what you like!
 6.
Sorry just being a smart Arse, Was thinking you probably need someone to Look at the floor, nod their head and play fast and loud. If you stated you wanted someone to double on flute or Harp. Now that as a Metal fan is versatile
Mate, I can play fast, nod, be loud AND double on harp and trombone Not in your area but best of luck finding a bass player!
 7.
this said, £ 600 IMO is more than enough to get a great sixer, and I guess that any yamaha trb or Ibanez BTB (I happened to try the new 676 model recently, and I found it absolutely gorgeous to look at in person, and extremely nice to play. also, it's really, really lightweight) would fit your needs.
I got my 676 for £670 though most seem to be almost £800 now Great bass, love mine! Very versitile with a bit of EQing, very very easy to sound jazzy and funky on it! And i play metal of all sorts and i can get the grunt and power from it too! Nice crisp growl which i like alot!
Currently playing my Yamaha RBX6JM and loving it btw. I found the TRB1006 to be an awesome bass aswell
You have no idea how much I envy you. Saving for a Yamaha TRB1006J! I love my 676 but i need a spare/back up and the TRBs i've always loved, they have an amazing mid-range with that grunt i love!
 8.
Hi and tnx..yeah I meant TB..TalkBass forums.. been on there a few years, never even knew this existed til I caught a post on there cross linking to here. A nexus NX410 is on my list of things to try, tempted to get a 4 ohm to open up the power of my amp a bit.
Ah sorry! I though you meant Terror Bass, but yes thats why i left Talkbass too american and always about stuff you don't get round here Same for me! I should be getting a NX115 soon thanks to Delberthot's review and big-ups of it
 9.
this interests me alot....
Haha what about it? I have terrible ERB GAS right now you see... (If Rich see's that he might give me a frown ) I saw a almost finished P-bass alike in his shed he was working on, and i was thinking of getting him to to a replacement neck for my P-bass with the knackered neck, Being local to us though is the real clincher for me though!
 10.
Hi all 1st post here and I have to come to Laney's defence I think, I've been playing my Eden 400 through an RB410 for about 2 years now, and quite often get compliments on my tight, but full and punchy tone., the cab is lighter than most of the potential replacements I have been looking at lately, Ashdown Eden, Aguilar, Ampeg, and is also smaller and easier to load out into the back seat of my car. I keep telling myself I need a better cab, but have come to the conclusion its just GAS. Strangely enough, I logged in here to look for info re alternatives to my Laney! TB is great but very US based.
US as in america? It's considered very british sounding i thought? But minus the first 2 posters (including the OP) have all defended Laney! I love my laney gear, and i'm saving for more of it! OTB has a very, very thick low end, so it's the head IMO not the can IME! And Welcome to the Forum
 11.
Rich in Aberdeen is a great guy. Ou7shined on here. Prices are good too and will do whatever you want! I'll be getting something built when my stingray sells!
+1 for a lesser known hometown man! I still need to ask him how many strings he'd be willing to put on an instrument... But his stuff is great and his has great prices!
 12. It's going to be beautiful when it's done mate! That fretboard is something else!
 13.
I haven't had that Yamaha for ages. I loved it, but it was very neck heavy so it had to go. My 2 Status Energy have been modded for extra pickups and outputs.
Ah well! The rig is still beautiful And thats pretty cool! Are those 2 Hartke "Big boy" 212s in the picture? The version 2 is a monster, and the dirty side of the version 3 sounds like it will be too! What drive are you going to use?
 14.
2 amps works way better than a blend. I've done both. Most of my basses have 2 outputs so I can control each side volume from the bass (like the Yamaha Attitude bass / Rickenbackers etc), but I have a custom buffered split box for when I use a single output bass. Rig of Doom Version 1. Two amp heads and pedals. Rig of Doom Version 2: Two preamps. Each feeding one side of the power amp. Actually the preamps in version 2 (Ampeg SVP-BSP and Line6 Pod XT Pro) are both capcable of splitting their own signals with a clean blend. So technically it was a 4 sound blend. I've never had a rhythm guitarist in a band!!! I'm currently building version 3.
Next time i'm in Northamptonshire (thats where my Grandparents live!) I'm building a small alter outside your home and worshiping your rig of all mighty power, completed with the A Red Yamaha Attitude I (I have epic Yamaha ATT GAS but the Bank says no! haha My 25th Anniversary look so lonely...) Not that thats wierd or anything In all seriousness though, your rig is like my ideal rig, and you had a Bongo 6HH so we have identical tastes
 15. I'd say the Yamaha TRB either of those used ones will serve you very well! (Truckstop, you still GASing for one? I am! =S ) But the Ibanez SR506 is around £550-£600 and is slim necked with 16.5 string spacing so going back to the 5 would be less trouble (IMO) Though saying that i never get on with 5 strings but love 4 and 6 strings!
 16.
so a 1200 watt cab could take 1000watt tube head? but in saying that tubes are louder, surely that means more speaker excursion, which would in turn destroy the speakers because with my 1200 watt solidsate, the speakers are defo being pushed, and if a tube head is louder i seriously dont think 1200 watt cab could take anywhere near that watt in tube form
Its not 1200 Watts "Solidstate" as it were, its just 1200W All amps, no matter what time, valve, solid states etc put out Watts which is a rating of power, and the cabs are rated with a Wattage rating to prevent "over powering" the cab and by that i mean actual Power, rated in Watts. (As in electrical energy) That rating for the cab means the thermal coils will take approximately 1200 before overheating Quick edit: http://wiki.basschat.co.uk/info:amps:impedance_and_wattage very nicely written article on the Basschat Wiki might explain a little better than I, but my explination is below http://barefacedbass.com/technical-informa...ythbusters1.htm http://barefacedbass.com/technical-informa...er-handling.htm Should explain everything you need to know!
 17.
yeah but isnt the 1200watt solid state rating? because tubes and solid state are rated different hence the query, just wondering if the 300watt tube will be as loud and powerfull as my 1200watt solid state
All Watts are Watts, a measure of power. All Amps are rated with the same in the power section regardless if it's solid state or tube The whole "Tube" watts thing is just it's mostly stated that A 300W all Tube amp will be louder than a 300W solid state amp but they are kicking out the same amount of power just not the same Volume Loud and Powerful aren't the same thing, Wattage rating is a guide line more or less, not a true direct correlation The guy from System of a Down has a 1000W All tube Ashdown custom head and thats stadium loud!
 18. I really like the Laney RB series, i like the snappy ness and sort of hardness to the sound (to my ears anyway!) And i've never found them to have too MUCH bass, i've found them to have some but i find my self having to add some on the amp and on my bass to get a decent amount of rumble (and i don't play with much boost in the bass overall maybe set at 4 o'clock on the amp and a smidge on the EQ of the bass based on the room) It might be the acoustics of the room? Or the Amp or the Cab, all things to take into account (Though i'm not hugely knowledgeable about this stuff so unsure if room is a valid answer )
 19.
I taught guitar and bass to kids aged 8-42
A 42 year old kid?
 20.
I think Cass Lewis from Skunk Anansie and Timmy C from RATM both run a "bass" bass amp and an "effects" bass amp, giving their dirty tone a lot more welly. Cass was using Eden rigs last time I heard (albeit a while ago) and Tim has bounced between Ashdown and Ampeg for the last few years... Eude
Timmy C actuallys runs 3 and has previous used 4 (nothing compared to John Entwistles 8 rigs!) A Clean one, semi dirt (another semi dirty if it's 4) and a full gain rig (all the same head i think all ampeg valve heads IIRC)
 21. Have you tried Hipshot? They are very helpful! Also it depends on your current tuners/slots though
 22.
... ** I think he uses this to branch off into guitar cabs live if I recall. Ahhh, no - he runs to Bass amps into bass cabinets, but they are EQ very differently. (Along with compression) ... I'm really happy I managed to bag another BSP - It's be great to see if the Hartke Kilo can do the same with ref to the distortion section on the BSP - but I'm unlikely to sell the little beast anyway!
Billys cab set up intreguies me! He used to run all 810s but with the Hartke gear he's used over the years he's used 115s for the P pickup and distortion and and 410s for the woofer pickup and the clean low end as he said it gives over all a more balanced tone and also the low bass sub clean area is more important so needs to move more air. Aslo billy hasn't used compression (in any serious amount) since Holy Cow (which i believe features the Hartke LH amp on it!) As he as decided to use less and less effects to get a truer, purer sound and he said to also make him a better bass player to have an untainted sound to practise with in rehersal and he mostly practises unplugged now [End of fan-boy ism] Don't worry Dood, i'll be a Dood fanboy before too long
 23. About? Yes, common? No Antony Jackson had his Six stringer Tuned B-C in '75 if i remember correctly (from books! I was bron 20 years after )
 24.
Has that been defretted? If so, looks like a good job, perhaps a luthier has been over it?
Could be an orginal, Fretless TRBs were made for a good while and had wooden line markers (well some did!)
Don't shout at me all you 5 and 6 stringers but I thought I would address the lack of 4 string TRB's with my lovely brown satin TRB4 which I've had since new from 1994. This is one of the best basses I've ever played and owned and I will NEVER get rid, absolutely love it
Well the TRB was designed as a 5/6 (mainly 6) string bass! But the 4 strings are just as lovely!
 25. I get this with Keyboardists occasionally, but with an instrument "designed"/Commonly played with a lead and bass part it's easy to step on one anothers toes sonically A good sit down talk to outline the "shape" of the music usually sorts it for me, that or a shut down moment!
