1.
Wot, even a Ibanez?
Yep, even an Ibanez! Anything from their Classic period - 70's to mid 80's. Again, slightly off topic - I have 3 USA Fenders, the oldest being a '72 Jazz. I have loads of Ibanez, Aria, Peavey etc and have never been concerned or worried that I have a fake. I do understand the "living, breathing" thing - some instruments just seem to have that extra something but they don't have to be 40 years old, start with "F" "G" "R" etc. Don't get me wrong, I love my '72 Jazz but I also have many sub £200, 25 to 40 year old instruments that have that extra something. Talking of fake Fender P, here is something that is definately a fake - a Copy but has the "extra something" feeling and the "Ibanez" Blazers that are shown below it, will give any Fender Precision a run for it's money. Hondo Pro Precision. I like the post that Musky has put up - lots of signature clues to check out. Your average punter, I'm afraid, is going to get fleeced, if they are not fully clued up. Yes, even an Ibanez! Cheers.
  2. Hi - Worth trying something that I have used. I bought 5 sets of Adagio coated bass strings off of e.bay, just to see what they were like - £9 ish a couple of years ago. Cracking strings - I have a set on one of my Odyssey basses and they are "Allergy Free" as they are coated in Titanium. Well worth a go for around a tenner and Very Good strings. Cheers.
  3.
Tom, I have one of Eric's children too - a thing known as Chalky - and to all those interested buyers, you can be sure of the quality and condition of the instrument both inside and out. People shouldn't be put off by the weight comments, the T40 is solid but very well balanced so weight isn't an issue. Good luck with the sale Tom (although I hope you don't have to...)
Awww, you say the nicest things! Glad you and Chalky have hit it off, bet he's practically part of the family now. One of my Sunbursts went to Trois6 - Adrien, it's his main bass now, backed up by a lovely Shergold Modulator. Mmmm, Nice Tom. have a free bump on me. Cheers.
  4. Mmm, I've got a P of that era and I'm positive it is not a '78 USA. Read "2008" MIM or as already mentioned a Squier. Definately re-badged. The neck would have a skunk stripe, the control knobs are flat on the top and the head looks like above - plugged. Not the real deal. Cheers.
  5.
This auction is, in my opinion, excellent in every way. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/160559216667 Read the whole listing plus the additional stuff - bloody marvellous! Jon.
Priceless. . . . . Absolutely Priceless!
  6.
This is where we need FlatEric... That said, some might say that the additions (thumbrest and the pickup selector switch) might sway the price slightly...
Hi, sorry I'm late! A nice used T-40. Probably about the right figure/a bargain. If both switches were there and of the original type, the thumbrest wasn't there and the back of the neck was in nice condtion, along with not quite so much pitting on the chrome, this would be a £400.00 to £500.00 bass. One of the same era, Maple board, Tanburst, nice condition, went for a large amount of money, sometime last year. Over £500.00, I seem to recall - I think I have a pic of that one, somewhere. Tanburst/Rosewood are not that common. As a player. . . . . Plug it in and away you go!! Somone should snap this up! Cheers.
  7.
NOOOO!
Yyyyyyyyyyyyyesssss! Sorry mate, someone beat you to it!
  8.
Hi all, just wondering if anyone has ever played a Fender Japan JB75-PJ. It's a 75 reissue Jazz Bass with a Precision pickup in the neck position, like this one here. Just wondering if anyone could tell me whether this actually sounds like a Precision when this neck pickup is solo'd. The reason I ask is that I love the Precision sound but am much more comfortable on a Jazz neck and when I play a Jazz I mostly use the bridge pickup on its own. This would give me all of these things in one bass! I'd love to here from anyone who has one or has played one.
Hi. Don't know about the Jazz in question but I have several basses with a P & J set-up. If you back off the J it sounds like a P. If you only use the bridge on your Jazz, then the sound would be the same if you backed off the P. The only think that is missing, is that slightly sweeter tone when you have a J and a J on together. With a P & J set-up, the P delivers a much fatter sound when both pick-ups are on together. Does this all make sense?? Cheers.
  9. Mike bought my Westone Rail. Very easy to deal with - very prompt payment - no problems, at all. Top Man.
  10. Rail now sold to "alyctes" - Happy Playing. Cheers.
  11.
It's with a heavy heart that Im offering my T-40 up for sale. I've had ages but it just isnt getting used. Since my Shuker landed my SB has become my backup and as much as it sucks the old T could do with finding a new home. The bass in question is a 1978 build, meaning it has the early model Toaster pickups and a slightly wider neck than the later Blade models. It's original apart from the switches which broke and have been replaced with similar but not identical ones. Natural oil finished body and maple neck. The body is showing some signs of wear but is completely solid. The neck has had the varnish sanded off the back of it but is straight and in good condition, head stock has a few dings, nothing out of the ordinary for a 25+ year old bass. The threads on here speak for themselves about how great these basses are so I won't bore you with technical details. Heres a pic for illustrative purposes, Ill put more up when I get the bass out of storage. Comes with non original hard case. I'd rather sell but trades are always an option, think Warwick, Sandberg, anything active really, preferably with atleast one MM pickup or 70s/80s jap built stuff like Ibanez, westone, aria etc. Status Groove, try me. £400
One day . . . . . . you'll think . . . . . Mmmm, T-40 - Yeah, I had one of those! I do a lot of Japanese stuff and I can see where you are going and the Status Groove is an excellent bass love mine. But. . . . . . as I said . . . one day. Must bring a "Blade" your way, one day - I'll have you begging to jump on the train again!!!!!!!! Good luck with the sale - "almost ex T-40 owner"
  12. I went to see Peter Frampton last night, at the Assembly in Leamington. In a word STUNNING. Back in the day of "Frampton Comes Alive" I think I wore out my vinyl copy - not only the record but the sleeve as well! Albums of that size were a lot more interesting. Peter and the band came on, no support, no waffle - Just came on a played and played and played - all the songs you would want to hear if you loved Frampton Comes Alive. The sound was one of the best I have ever heard - apparently it has won some sort of award for the quality of the venue and the sound - lighting was great and the place was full. Really getting into it and then he introduced the band. . . . . "and on bass, Mr Stanley Sheldon". The icing on the cake. Stanley was the first fretless rock bass player I had hever seen - Precision, with a maple board, years ago - now a Musicman and and another bass I couldn't quite work out what it was. Just a brilliant night and a venue I will definately visit again - "Stray" are on in April, always worth a look. Anyone else go?? Cheers.
  13. Oooooo! I'll Have that! Ta! Sent you a PM. Cheers.
  14.
One day I'll get round to buying Flat Erics rail. I love them
Ha Ha. You'll break in the end.
Hands up who wishes they'd bought a Rail & a Quantum (and a Super Headless & a Washburn Bantam & a Washburn Force 42 & an Aria Pro ICB Interceptor & a Riverhead Unicorn & an Ibanez Axstar AXB...) before JapCrap got popular, & people couldn't give the damn things away? Yeah, me too... J.
Rail: Tick, Tick! Quantum: Tick! Interceptor: Tick! And introducing. . . . . . . . Would love to see another one if these! Cheers.
  15.
Out of interest, does anyone have any sound clips of one of these? I'd love to hear one in action.
Hi. To be honest, like almost every instrument IMO, you would have to play it yourself, through your gear, with your lead, your fingers etc, to get the real sound. I have quite a few of these - Toaster & Blade, different strings on some of them and they all have subtle differences. Over the years I have lent some of mine out and to date, everone one has been very impressed with the range of sounds and the power - one even bought his lend, as he couldn't bear to give it back! A sound clip, IMO would not give you a full idea to the tones available. Try and find someone who has one and have a go. Blades are brighter than Toasters but Toasters have a rich warmth. You could also buy Tom's - it was mine and sounds luvverly! Cheers.
  16.
I think it's going to be a little later than 1981. I thought toaster pickups were used in earlier models, and the blade appeared after 1983 (?). Could be worng though
Old Red is an '82. From memory!!
  17. Tom, Hi. Took me ages to persuade myself to let it go - Old Red went to a good home and now he has to move out again. Sorry to hear about your health. You would struggle to find another one that good - sure you are doing the right thing? You selling all your gear? All the best. Eric.
  18. Hi. Played this last night and then played it's brother. Great fun but I am now getting therapy for my "Noah's Ark Syndrone" (NAS) - the need to have at least two of everything. If someone would like this, I am pitching this at £325 - Delivered to most parts of the UK. Cheers.
  19.
Not quite as rock and roll as some others, but there...
Very Nice - I'll forward them to Peter. Peter Cook, The Final Cut. . . . or is it? ? ? ? Peter Cook - The Final Cut Cheers.
  20. For what it's worth. . . . . It's a Classic Peavey, so. . . . . I've got one. On a lone to a younger learner, at the mo' - struggling with his Pacifica - getting on with the T-15 much better. As pointed out, it's the proper thing, not a toy - the best bit is the sound. The pickups are stunning. Some really great sounds - surpised your guitarist gave it back to you. Good luck with the sale. Cheers.
  21. Bought a cracking Aria from Tony. All as described, lovely clean condition - ready to go. So ready, using it tonight!! All the best. Eric.
  22.
many thanks, dont really want to sell but im desperate for a trace head, and there is one on here for sale at the right price £250 so if any one wants to snap my hands off feel free
Oooooo!! I can't bear this any longer - I have to feed my "Noah's Ark Syndrome" Cracking Basses - I'll give it a good home. I already have one and this is too good a deal to let it slip. Will PM you later to sort out. Cheers.
  23.
Amazing! Wanted a cheap bass to customise a little, and just finished it tonight. I'm absolutely blown away with the results! I've played basses costing 5 times more which haven't hit the spot in the same way! Yamaha RBX270 black off Gumtree £ 70 Wilkinson bridge w/brass saddles £ 15 (I think) Dimarzio model p/j (cream) £100 Cream speed knobs. £ 5 CTS wiring kit. £ 15 TOTAL. £205! It sounds friggin awesome! I've owned a fair few basses, and this is amazing for the money i've spent. Would highly recommend this recipe for anyone looking for an inexpensive bass that plays and sounds great, or as a decent backup.
I'm with you on that one. I bought an RBX270 Fretless, about 5 years ago - love it. Lent it to loads of players - all said the same and mine is stock! Thump away!! Cheers.
  24.
Ok there must be some admirers of twin-neck instruments out there. I'm starting to play a bit of guitar as well as bass. My band is a trio with keys and the keys player has some bass pedals, which could free me to play little bits of guitar ocassionaly. So what does anyone know about twin-necks? What are the pitfalls? Any particular makes and models to GAS hard for or to avoid at all costs? Just to give a pointer on my tastes, I'm into classic Fender-ish tones and styles. Thanks for any advice. And if you know of any going for sale at a good price, please let me know.
I love Twin Necks!! I guess it's a Marmite thing! What are you after - 4 & 6, 4 & 8, 4 & 4 (one fretless) or 6 & 12? The only one I don't have it a 4 & 4 - if I'm honest, my fretless playing is OK but not worth me trying to show I can do both and not really pulling it off. Let me know what you're after. DomInSomerset made a cracking Twin, using my Peavy Zodiac as a template - turned out really well. That was a 4 & 4 - might be worth having a chat with him. They are a bit heavy, but you don't play them all night!! Cheers. EDIT. Muppett!! You said 4 & 6 in the post!! Must try harder Eric!!! Sorreeee!! Something like this. . . . My advice would be if you are a better bass player than a guitarist, see if you can find a rare 6 at the top - 4 at the bottom - easier to get on with!
  25.
It also says "Made In Japan", which realistically is what a Hondo needs to say in order for it to be considered not to be Korean, and probably plywood! That's actually a lovely bass, if a bit beat-up & well worth what it went for. The other one's just your standard Samick-made Korean cheapo, as are the overwhelming majority of Hondos. Pretty much everything else I know about Hondos is already in the other thread you mentioned. J.
I have one of these. Hondo What a cracking bass. If you ever see one, go for it. I promise I won't bid . . . . . . . . Honest!! Cheers.
