I can't go in there. I'd come out with an SG3000, and no money ever again. Jon.
I actually laughed out loud! Jon, you have no will power. I'll come with you and . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Ash! You have slipped towards the dark side! There is no turning back now! Next thing, you'll be looking for a T-40/5 Good luck mate - I only ever had one five string, a real beauty but just couldn't get my head around it! Too long playing 4 or more likely. . . . . . . no commitment. One of the thoughts going through my head at the time was, if I do get the hang of this and I like it, what shall I do with all the others? Cheers.

This looks like a lot of fun - Nostalgia, eh - ain't wot it used to be! This isn't mine, as cameras were only for "grown ups", when I were a lad! This is one I have lifted from t'internet but is pretty much the condition of mine. Started of on guitar and then as the band changed, I was "nominated" as the bass player. It would have been around 1973 ish - can't remeber exactly how much it was but it had a very high action!!! I bought one, around 4 years ago - not in good nick but the same as mine was - I've not done it on the blog yet but will dig it out and get on the case. The surprising thing was. . . . . . it actually sounded not too bad - much to my amazement! Cheers.

Nice. A warm and fuzzy tale. Keep up the good work.

If so I'm very tempted to take it back to the original wood but if it's an original colour then perhaps it would be criminal to change it now. Tis a cracker & everything I've read & heard about them is true - a fantastic player with real grunt - a keeper! Keep up the great work! Tim
My, oh my, oh my! What a cracker!! The colour really suits it - I would leave it or better still. . . . . . . . . Sell it to me!!!!!!!!

Phil Lynott : 65th birthday - 'Live & Dangerous' day on BC?
FlatEric replied to The Admiral's topic in General Discussion
Tone-master indeed! Speaking of which, which bass is he using here? Looks like some kind of Status (or at least graphite) Fender-type neck... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TqRJtUorPMg
From what I can see, it looks like his Roland - Based on a Greco GOB. He also used to use an Ibanez RS900. -
I've been watching this from the start and find it hard to believe that it is still here. I have one of these and from memory, quite a few BCers are 301 and 302 owners. If anyone is dithering over taking on this bass, from what I can see it's very nice indeed. If you have nver played one, I think you would be quite surprised. Very punchy, full of depth "Good for Metal" "Great for Jazz"!! Joking aside, this single pick-up bass will suit all sorts of genres (after all a P only has one!!) and will bring a smile to your face. Mine is not heavy and unless you have it strapped right up to your chin, is not head heavy and is very comfortable to play. Had mine out a couple of weeks ago, through the new Genz Benz rig, I bought from PeteTexas, a few weeks ago - Very, Very nice indeed! Someone give this a good home.

I have read all through this old thread, brought to the top again by Stoney. Very interesting. I have never played a Wal and don't recall having even picked one up! Shame on me. I realise it's a little of topic of the original post but could some Wal fans/owners point me in the direction of threads that would explain the different models. All of a sudden, I have a healthy interest in the Marque. May even start a Wal fund! Cheers.

Phil Lynott : 65th birthday - 'Live & Dangerous' day on BC?
FlatEric replied to The Admiral's topic in General Discussion
Big fan of Lizzy. First live viewing of Phil and the boys was on the Johnny the fox tour - '76?? For me, he is a legend and I was very upset when he passed away. That said. . . . . . and please forgive me for this but. . . . . . . . if he was going to continue down the drugs route, would it be a great thing for him to have slipped into obscurity as he declined in health - look at Brian Robertson now! Sort of Phil Spector - a legend in his day but all I can think of now is the prison mug shots. I really am sad that he went so soon but sometimes that is how they are frozen in time - Hendrix, Elvis, Kurt Curbain, Jim Morrisson etc. For me, he is frozen in time! We play a lot of Lizzy and I will always be a big fan - perhaps the main reason I leaned toward four strings and not six. -
I wish I'd never sold on my '84 Ibanez Blazer. Bought it off FlatEric and used it solidly for 18 months. I bloody loved that thing I did. I think I fell out of love with the natural finish and stupidly moved it on. Tone in spades and lovely worn in maple neck. I used the money to buy my current squeeze (BB424x) so it's not all bad I suppose. Truckstop
You know what mate. . . . . . even before reading this thread, I was just thinking the other day, I wonder where it has ended up. I really great bass that I moved on after I got my first RB650. It just did what it said on the tin and it didn't matter if you bumped it into something. I am now looking for another one!!! Anyone know where it is?
-
Jenny - Hi. I now have a more compact rig but still look at other units (as we all do) just in case I have missed something that may be of use to me. So I read your review. I would just like to say how concise and objective it is. Easy to read and interesting. Ta.

Daft question time - what 'ages' strings? Playing or time?
FlatEric replied to Paul S's topic in Accessories and Misc
This may help and is my belief. A bass I still have - My Hondo Pro (which sounds more like a P than mnost P's!!), was ftted a few years ago, with some "Grant" strings I bought in the 70's - still in the sleeves and in a packet. Tucked away at the bottom of a box, away from view! So I had them for 35 odd years before I fitted them. Sounded SO sweet! Still on there, still sounding sweet. Basses I play/rehearse/gig with - strings have a limited lifespan. Some go off relatively quickly others seem to go on and on but at the point the can only offer something bordering on a Dull Thud, they're off!! -
So is that just two 6 pole switches I need ? Will any one the right size do or do I buy these ones ? http://www.vintagegi...t&view=category Cheers
Just had an awful thought!! I didn't see the face of the scratchplate. Maybe the holes have beed butchered! You may be lucky but if they have been opened out Got to dash - will come back to you later.
Is there a bass you haven't owned, FE?
Alembic, Sandberg, BC Rich, Fernandes, Framus, Wal, Kramer. . . . . . I could go on and on. Mind you. . . . . . Still plenty of time!

How Much?????? I was overjoyed to get about £80 for mine. http://flatericbassandguitar.blogspot.co.uk/2012/03/jolana-basso.html Built down to a price but didn't sound too bad, from memory.
-
They are not the original switches - not even close!!!!! The correct ones/size have always been available! Why, oh why, oh why?? This is the plate from my "Project T-40" Even this has a replacement switch but of the "correct size" Just change the switches - easily found and I can help if required. Cheers.
-
Hello mate. Can you show me your issues - the switches should not be different - it may have been messed around with. Have also sent you a PM, the curiosity is killing me, as to what the problem is. Cheers.
