Vintage MIJ (formerly J@pCr@p) Spotting
FlatEric replied to Bassassin's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
I was wondering is this a Hamer neck transplanted onto an Ibanez Studio bass? http://www.ebay.co.u...=item19f6e6a7cb Quite a distinctive headstock....
These are great basses but this one has been mucked around with. It's the original neck, IMO - fashioned to look like a Jaydee. Shame but each to their own. -
Looks like what was an RB650 - A stunning bass in original condition. Don't think I would bother with the one listed.
That's MIJ - these were long gone before Matsumoku went under. I know MIJ prices aren't what they once were, but that's a silly, silly bargain! J.
Jon, Hi. I have three Lasers. Two passive and one active. Rehearsed with them, noodled with them - gigged them. If only players would try some of this Classic Jap stuff. Nuff said. -
I have a constant fight against gas. Currently I have over 150 pedals, 6 guitars, more than 15 basses, 3 bass heads, 6 cabinets, 3 PA systems and a variety of guitar and bass related gadgets. Fortunately I haven't bought a new bass in over two years, but I did ask a friend to build me a modified Electra drive on Friday! As you can see, pedals are my kryptonite. It's always just one more, but I pretty much always keeps them just in case! My wife has given up on trying to reign me in- it's a nun achievable goal I'm afraid. I've come to the conclusion I'm just a hoarder. Hopefully it will leave my kids with some interesting bits and bobs, that may even be worth something
I'd say with that amount of pedals . . . . . . you need way more guitars and basses! Go to it, my friend and rest easy - you know it makes sense!!
My wife thinks I'm addicted to brake fluid. I told her I can stop anytime!
Never heard that one!! Really did "laugh out loud"! Priceless. I'm Eric and I'm always happy to buy another Bass/Guitar. After more years of doing it, than I care to remember - I am past caring.

Ibanez AXB 60 Axstar Headless Bass Rare and Active model

Just listened to the track and Hurdy Gurdy. Back in the day - it was a long time ago, my mate used to constantly play me Hillage stuff and I just didn't get it. Listening to it now, I can understand his liking for it and now sort of get it myself - perhaps even more, with a few more listens/tracks. This has taken me back to my yoooof! Thanks for the post. I'm off to email him now and tell him that it has only taken me 35 odd years to catch on!

Nice! It's an RS 900 - also famously used by Phil Lynott. Got some pics somewhere, will dig them out later. A really great bass - they are a bit weighty but balance very well and are a joy to play. This is mine. http://flatericbassandguitar.blogspot.co.uk/2013/08/basses-on-lawn.html Out at work. Oh NO! it's true. There I was (third post) certain in the knowledge that it was a hoax, sitting in a pub garden, making the most of the nice weather, last night. A pleasant evening. Got up this morning, not a care in the world and now this! Very Sad news. Another great loss.

Ovation Magnum String Lengths - Here is the answer!
FlatEric replied to FlatEric's topic in General Discussion
Time for a bump to the top. Still getting e.mails about the best strings for an Ovation Magnum - not usually for their tone. . . . . . . more about the length! Oooowweerr Mrs! Quite a few, just aren't long enough. Click here for the full article. http://flatericbassandguitar.blogspot.co.uk/2011/10/ovation-magnum-bass.html Hope this helps. Cheers. -
Unless a £50 Balogh Odyssey turns up... J.
Ha! Fight you for it!! Fistycuffs at dawn! -
The gig was absolutely AWESOME! Exceeded all my expectations, and then some. Live, with loud thudding bass and the most kick ass live drummer I've seen since Stewart Copeland on the Police tour a couple of years back, it was less 80s pop and more heavy jazz/funk and by far the tightest live band I've ever seen.
I was there too and I couldn't agree more! The whole thing was just quality from start to finish. Anyone who is going, I'm sure will have a great time. Just Brilliant!

I like the odd Peavey, or two. . . . . . .
-
I had a borrow of a 500w head, last week and liked it a lot. Simple controls, lots of punch. Downside - Boy is that thing heavy!!
-
I also have a great respect for the guitarists I have played with and am not keen on "Guitard". I understand the condition, as I have met quite a few that fall towards that catagory but I have been fortunate with the ones I have been involved with. I can come out now - I play guitar and I have respect for guitarists. . . . . in the main.

Very Nice - Very imaginative. Nice job - something a little different.
