1. I wouldn't bother with that one - as I said in the other Blazer post, one it's bigger strengths is the original pick-up.
2. Someone grab this. I have two of these and these things will remove kidney stones at ten paces. Brilliant pick-up, same as the Greco GOB series - I have two of those, as well. Seriously good. P type/handful of neck but comfortable. Don't very often see these come up - only made for a short period, before they brought in the one with the P type pick-up. Go for it. Cheers.
3.
I'm pretty sure this was a bass commissioned by a customer of mine way back when I had the business of The Bass Place in Newcastle. Jim Cairnes built the neck and I did the rest. But no idea where it is now.
Aha, I think mine was done on the same bassis! The body on this one, seems to have the same features as mine. You may have done it? I'll post up some pics, at some point. Cheers.
4. Simple question - cd_David ended up with this, I think. . . . . but not sure. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/16198-music-man-custom-job-by-jim-cairnes/http:// I have something that is similar - mine has two EMG but up until yesterday lunch time, I had not seen another - I found it through google images. Not looking to buy it, just would like to know a little more about it. Cheers.
5. When I get around to it - hopefully in the next few weeks, I shall run off perhaps fifty of them, so as soon as they are done, I'll be in touch. Cheers.
6. Hi. They are a standard thread but the heads are smaller than stock fixings. I have been meaning to sort this out for a couple of my Aria basses. These were used throughout the Aria bass range. I intend to turn down a batch and finish the heads in black. Anyone else want any, whilst I'm at it? Cheers.
7.
Back To Our 1978 Line-Up! Has anyone else experienced this kind of 'forward-into-the-past' -type weirdness, or am I alone in this?? I thank you! *Jokes about Ralgex, Wincarnis and Steradent are very welcome.
Don't know if this counts but I got back together with our singer from 1974, a few years back (over 30 years later) and rehearsed in a building around 20 metres from where we were in '74. My advice - Go for it, it my case it was a blast for over 4 years! Cheers.
8. Nice. I am a big fan of the Double P. I have a Canadian Odyssey, which has the switching you were looking for. This one. When I first had it, there was "much playing around with the switching" but after the novelty had worn off, I now leave then in phase, in series - which is how your is now and use the Vol and Tone controls. Other switching options take away some of the power/punch of the bass. Perhaps leave it for a while and see how you get on? You may end up doing it and then setting the switches to what you have already. Cheers.
9. Hi. Just some thoughts on your T-40. The best strings I have found, so far, are Rotosound RB45 - up to those, I found Picato were quite good. I have bought Forty's with flats on and the range of tones is more limited. Is yours a Toaster or a Blade? As with most electric instruments, the sound you hear is also down to the amp. I have 3 set-ups and they each offer tonal differences - maybe the mix of a T-40 and your amp, is not giving you what you are looking for. They really come to life with a Sansamp or in my case a BD21 Behringer. I don't always use it but in some situations, it helps "colour" the sound/tones. A BD21 can be picked up for pennies on e.bay - may be worth giving that a go. Cheers.
10. Very Nice! I just love Classic Ibanez! Nice 650 - I have one the same colour, in the original case - I was SO impressed with it, I bought another one. Top Bass. Cheers.
11.
Can you post a pic of your case...it must be huge!!!
Sorreeeeee! I do have a spare case but it's for the guitar - not the bass. Cases of the size that would do, I think are very rare! It took me ages to find one that an Ibanez Destroyer bass would fit in and that was second hand off e.bay - not new. If I spot one. . . . . Cheers.
12.
Played my last ever gig with the band I've been with for 13 years yesterday at the local Golf Club's Christmas party, before I retire to go travelling with the good lady. Brilliant! The guys made it into just the best night ever, changing the words of half of the songs in the second set (when the audience were well oiled) into anything that remotely sounded like or rhymed with "Bob" or "Sue" or "Bob and Sue"! (Sue is our lighting lady as well as having suffered wedded bliss with me for the last 37 years, so will probably be missed as much if not more than me by the band). Our front man must have told the audience half a dozen times that I was leaving that night, and in turn I was showered with hugs, kisses and adulation (!) from them. I dug my lucky bass players pork pie hat out of retirement, played the Pedulla Sue gave me 12 years ago on our silver wedding and don't think I made a mistake all night, and we all went back to one of the guy's houses for cheese, biscuits and whiskey afterwards. They gave me a big photo blown up onto that canvassy stuff to remember Breeze by, and its now in pride of place in the hallway, just in case any visitors don't believe I was once a 59 year old budding rock star...... Life just doesn't get any better than this, but as one door closes a new door has now opened to our latest phase of life as travellers, something we have wanted to do for ages, and now we are both retired and waiting delivery of our motor home has become a reality. Have to go now as I'm starting to well up writing this. Cheers to everyone here and have a great Christmas.
I had a great time last night but I read this and thought, Yeah way to go!! All the very best. Cheers.
13. I would agree - I'm pretty sure it's a 924, Rosewood, Fretless. A really cracking bass - I've got one with a maple board. Nice clip.
14. It is indeed MASSIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think, buried somewhere. . . . . . . I may have a spare case! I kid you not! Do you want a case for yours? Cheers.
15. Ha! They've had that up for ages - can't see them shifting it! I have one, in an original case - not that common, also in Blueburst! Come on. . . . . . let's get pointy! Cheers.
16. Ooooooooooooo! Nice! Very Nice!
17. What a great article - first time I have seen this. A few months back I got in touch with them directly about something and got an instant reply and the upmost in customer relations. With my little lot, I get through quite a few strings - mostly Rotosound. Made in Britain - can't be bad. Cheers.
18. I knew it, I just knew it!!!!!!!!!!!! I thought, I know this - I do know this and then I thought, no - give up, put it out to the BC community and the answer would be there. Less than half an hour later, the old grey cells kicked into life and it came back to me!! Ray Cooper!!!! http://www.raycooperguitars.com/ That's that sorted - when I next have a memory relapse. . . . . . . I'll put it up on here. Wishing all on BC and Happy Cristmas and a Healthy and Prosperous New Year. Cheers.
19. Mornin' all! I have seen this logo before but can't pin it down. I have made the image as bright as I can but the logo is a fish with it's tail flipped over it. You can just see that the nut has detailing between the strings and there is a machined shoulder all around the head. I just can't put my finger on it - any ideas? Described as a Custom from the late 70's - any old gits (like me) out there can ring any bells for me??? Cheers.
20. Bah, if only you were nearer!!
21.
Maya Fretless P. Said to be from the same factory as Ibanez/Tokai. I usually think of 'the Ibanez factor' being Fujigen, and of Tokai having its own factory. But it's been mentioned before that things are more complicated than that. http://www.ebay.co.u...=item3cda21213c
I've got one of these - an absolute cracker. Mine is as original, with black pick-ups and I think Jon is right, my tuners don't look like those. Nice old bass.
22. I've played several, over the years and the best, by far - for me, is this one. Medium scale, wonderful tones and 8 separate saddles - intonation is bang on. Not easy to find but start the search now and at some point. . . . . Cheers.
23. Hi. These basses punch way above their weight. Not many players have had the chance of having a go on one but when they do. . . . . May I suggest some better shots, show that the cracking in the neck is superficial and not structural - you might find some takers. These things go for £500.00 - £700.00 ish, so the price is about right. These really are cracking basses. That's my 2p's worth. Cheers.
24. Does anybody here remember the old Doris Stokes gag. . . . . a "Happy Medium" I do like mine set almost flat and set it - leave the cover off for a week and if OK, put the cover on. All my stuff is either in the warm and dry, in transit (LDV actually! ) or being played at a gig or rehearsal, so no extrmes of temp or humidity. I very rarely touch them again - if ever. A change of string brand or gauge may require a tweek but only then. Try and keep 'em cosy - you may not have to be always fine tuning. Cheers.
25. Nice looking bass. Great finish. PM me some more shots, if you can - I always send anything that is relevant to Peter. Cheers.
