1. I have a few twin necks and I would totally agree with Dom. If it is to be an on stage tool the compact headless is the way to go. Don't get me wrong, I love the look of twins and visually, I think they can be attractive and on stage can add a presence, so it depends on what you want it for. One small tip - my Peter Cook twin has the strap button behind the bottom neck. For the one you have at the moment, try loosening one of the neck screws - top one, nearest to the bridge and have a trial run with the strap under the head of the screw (carefully) and see if that balances a little better. Worth a go. Keep us posted. Cheers.
2. Top job! Just shows what can be done with a little enthusiasm and a few tools. I love the control knobs!!
3. That is a really nice looking bass! The post also shows how to present a bass for sale. Clear, well lit and in focus pictures make it even more tempting. Nice one. Have a free bump on me.
4. Having read with interest, the restoration that Norris featured on his Rebuild of the SB1000 and following Dom's headless creation, I thought I would share this feature that I have done on a Custom Reeve Headless bass. The strip-down started some time ago and I have only just recently found the time to "crack on " with it. The above pic is as it came to me. This is where I am, so far. To follow the story in date order (as it's a blog is sort of goes backwards!) click on the links bellow. If anyone knows of a Reeve instrument or may even have one, I would love to hear from you. Cheers.
5. Strange! Seems a real rarity! There maybe two of them? http://www.talkbass.com/threads/80s-washburn-force-30-string-length.589022/ This is all I could find.
6. Had to google Mega cone! Very interesting! We always mic, even in a small ish place, just bleed enough through to bring the thud to the front. Did this thing add a lot of volume/depth to the kick drum?
7. Nice looking bass!! Jon (Bassassin) should be along soon, he'll tell you all about it!! Cheers.
8.
Ibanez Roadster Fretless for £175 https://www.gumtree....1894/1145249576
Someone grab this quick. I have one with Tru Bass strings on it. Absolutely Luvverely! This is giving it away!!!
9.
I expect Flat Eric will be along soon - he's got two! Jon.
Here!! My oh my!! Just saying the other day - VERY rare this side of the pond. Single DiMarzio P (mine have two) and I'm sure this would be a cracking bass. Try and find another one. Still on the hunt for another like this one!
10. This has been interesting reading! Two for me. Sabbath (big fan) late 70's, just dreadful!!!!!!!! The Bonus - Van Halen were the support! They had only done a few gigs in the UK - Bar was full, Eddy struck up - Bar emptied VERY QUICKLY! What a mistake putting them on - poor old Sabbath were not in the same league. Ozzy - Hic! Bill fell of his stool. Not good. Thin Lizzy (massive fan - saw them in the 70's) when Scott was the only original member, Rock City. Just truly awful! There seemed to be a lot of people on stage, the drummer thought he was Animal, from the Muppets, The whole thing was just too busy and to make things worse a couple of "I hope you are up there and you are enjoying this Phil" What??? Really glad to get out of the place!! There, rant over.
11. Oh dear. Recently been learning Fall to pieces (we used to do Slither) and have really enjoyed listening to him sing. 48! ? Really bad news.
12. If you are looking to buy a Faker, it is a good choice of make and a neck tru. I have two Aria and a Greco and have tried all sorts of others. You can tell there is a difference, even between the two Aria I have and the Greco is different again - perhaps my favourite. The only way you will know it's for you, is to have a go and have a good look around it. Some have issues with the bridge/pick-ups/truss rods etc. Jon (Bassassin) is your man. . . . what he doesn't know. . . . . Cheers.
13. I would wait until a good one comes up in the UK - a classic 70's/80's. As well as the shipping, there will be other charges, that soon rack up. There are still good ones up for sale, on a fairly regular basis.
14.
The reversed P setup is quite common on MIJ basses - which I believe the NJs are. Makes a lot more sense to me, and I do think the reverse Ps I've owned/played sound more tonally balanced across the strings than a standard P setup. Anyway - back on topic, I've never owned a double P bass (must be the only pickup configuration I haven't) and I really need to sort that out. There is very probably a Westone Thunder II in my future. Or a Balogh Odyssey. So much GAS... Jon.

The two Aria SB-R80s (or SB-Elite IIs - same thing, AFAIK!) are Matsumoku. The Attila Balogh Odyssey is a Canadian - made rarity - Flat Eric has (at least) two - which is just plain greedy! Jon.
As you say Jon, Very Rare - still looking for another one!! Without doubt, in the last 5 - 6 years, The Most Gigged Bass!! The Double P does it for me and the Odyssey presses all the right buttons. Don't get me wrong, I still play the others - is fact my current squeeze is an Ibanez RB650 - I just love Ibanez. One of my projects next year is to to Double P and Fender Japan 70's P, which I got from here, it was call "Sid" - White with black guard - it will have two cream DiMarzio. Will keep you posted. Cheers.
15.
Done!
Excellent! Nice job.
16. How is it you guys are always playing when I can't get there!! You are doing this deliberately. . . . aren't you!!! Love Lizzy - Will get to see you at some point - have a good one. Cheers.
17.
Yes I have mentioned about my Ibanez Roadster II before, it was a really lucky find on ebay. It's a PJ and has an infectious growl and punch, for what I paid (£190 on ebay) it came to me in a sorry state and I stripped it, polished it, removed layers of gunk and after a day of intensive care it came out like a brand new bass, the wiring loom was intact from when it was built everything under the hood was perfect. It has become one of my fav basses because it's so well seasoned it has a great sustain and a gorgeous neck. Very basic bridge bit of bent tin stile but has brass saddles and a real bone nut. The truss rod works perfectly and I have managed to achieve a near perfect compromise between action and neck tension without any string buzz. What I love about those pickups that they are Di Marzio copies and that means they have hex key adjustable twin pickup poles, which give you a great deal of adjustment towards achieving the optimal string to string volume by raising or lowering the poles accordingly. Anyone who has played it, loved it just like Dave did last week
You have an RB 650 there - In my humble opinion, one of the best passive basses. I just does what you need it to, without any fuss. Sweet.
18.
Ibanez Blazers, Roadsters, Roadstar IIs, Musicians etc were all made in the same factory (Fujigen Gakki), at the same time as JV, SQ, E & A - serial MIJ Fenders & Squiers. And yes - on the whole they're a bit better than the US Fender output of that era. Jon.

The Fenders of the same era are generally not quite as good as the Ibanez Roadstars IMO.
Oooo bit controvercial, if you are a lover of all things Fender but count me in as being in the Ibanez camp! I have several and they rate around the top of the list, for me. Once you have played one, you'll see what I mean. Cheers.
19. Pete, Hi. I wish you all the best. I have had several friends/aquaintances who have gone through this and have lost two of them, due to it. It is not easy. As has been said above a brave post and well put. Good luck for the future. Cheers.
20. I've tried to keep out of this one but here is another can of worms!! Does anyone agree with me? I have plenty to have a go at and have the benefit of being able to do a back to back (no pun intended) assement of a lot of basses (and guitars) in the same time period and this is my experience. For me, it isn't just about the weight - it's the balance and the way it hangs - where your hands fall comfortably. This is the honest truth (for me) if you choose to believe it or not. I have heavier basses that balance well which give me no trouble and yet there are some, that are lighter, that don't balance so well that cause me some discomfort, after a while. I think ergonomics/balance/posture trying to play it, have as much to do as the weight. Anyone else have the same thoughts? Cheers.
21. The T-40 will fit into most standard cases. In fact, there are many early ones in that type of case. See here: http://flatericbassandguitar.blogspot.co.uk/2013/01/peavey-t-40-and-t-60-cases.html Scroll down to the bottom, to see the one I mean. If you are looking for an original case, PM me - I have an unlined case (some of them were) like the one shown. See second image down. 22.
I think I have the foam mute from the one I sold. Do you have a pic of the original FlatEric?
Yep, somewhere!! It is truly a case of where!! I'm not going to start looking for it at the mo but from memory, it was either grey or dark grey/black ish and had a peel off sticky bit, at the bottom. Sound like yours? Cheers.
23. Ooooo! Yamaha BX1 meets Westone Quantum!! Sweet. Look forward to seeing it finished!! You still got the twin, you modeled on my templates? Cheers.
