  1. This to me sounds like a contradiction in terms unless I have missed something (i.e. these pedals sound great but sound terrible, muffled and weak). Perhaps try simplifying things as much as possible pick one Darkglass or MXR pedal that you have listed and focus on achieving a good sound with it (a sound that will work in a band mix ideally) as the only thing in your signal chain to your amp, then build your pedalboard around it.
  2. You and me both Pat! I fancy one of these in black, I know when I bought one of the HB Shorty P basses to try they recommended a guitar gig bag but as you say a dedicated SS case would be much better and would probably be very popular.
  3. No just a guy from the US who came over when the Talkbass Servers caught fire.
  4. I bought one a few years ago, perfectly serviceable, apart from as @police squad says the dots were in the wrong place for fretless, so I put in lines on the edge of the board (or rather my Dad did).
  5. 50th Birthday party Saturday night at a local football club (though the club was still open to the public/members). Played there before and it is a nice venue, not the best for sound as it is low ceiling L shaped room with us positioned at the bottom corner right corner of the L. We played well considering only one rehearsal prior as members of the band had been on holiday. I was impressed with the sound of my Dingwall ABZ 4, only second time gigging it, we struggled with the sound overall as the 2nd guitarist has gained confidence but that means he is the loudest and overuses distortion. Despite lots of work on this at rehearsals nothing seems to improve so we are looking at improving overall monitoring as a solution. Bonus was I could watch the fight on the TV at the back wall from time to time!
  6. Piezo bridge too? Nice!
  7. I will have to see if I can find this, I've been learning Mo's tune "Man from the Everglades" with varing degrees of success, would love to see it.
  8. I do my best, I can manage, truss rod adjustment, action and intonation, changing strings (most of the time) but most other more involved or finer tasks I struggle with, I have large hands with reduced function in one of them, plus having inherited low patience and a short fuse is not ideal. Take for example, fitting new strings to my Dingwall - with the bridge that doesn't hold the ball end until they're up to tension and recessed machine heads, this meant lots of frustration and swearing/sweating in the moment, with hindsight, gaffa tape over the bridge to hold the ball ends and a electric string winder may well have solved the issue, I'll know for next time..
  9. I think one of the old Fender/Squier Bullet basses would fit the bill, I think they made Long scale versions with the Mustang pickups but could be 32".
  10. I love the look of the finish and the neck but the pickups always look out of scale on these to me, one day I'll get hold of one of the CV Mustangs.
  11. I switch between fingers and pick depending on the song, tried all different gauges, settled on 2mm then found I couldn't grip them very well after a few songs. Started using Acoustik Attak XLs, like the shape of them and they are easier for me to grip, not cheap though. Hard part for me is keeping everything from the shoulder down as relaxed as possible.
  12. Not a problem, my call was mid July, as I said I've also had two positive in person dealings with yourselves in the past. Just at that time as I'm sure many of us would appreaciate, a more welcoming tone and service would have been nice.
  13. It wasn't Mark I spoke to as I've always found him helpful, likely it was Marcus.
  14. Oh yeah I appreciate what you're saying, arguably if you're in a good moment or bad moment if you're running a business then it doesn't matter, your aim is to sell products to customers, the better the service is that they receive the more likely they are to come back, I've had two very positive experience with BD in the past in person, in this case I felt like whoever I spoke to didn't have the time or interest to speak to me, so I tried a new shop to me, BB.
  15. My last contact with BD was a phone call asking about lightweight 4ohm cab options they available, the response was "Everything we have is on the website" - not interested in helping me or any discussion. So I called Bass Bros, Will was very helpful so I visited in person and came away with a awesome cab and a new bass!
  16. Next on my list is to try a set of Platinum Newtone's. Ordered a set of the Diamond multiscale set for my Dingwall and was impressed with them.
  17. Not Herbie! Another of my personal Bass Greats gone, The Eve of War, Country Comforts, Jump into the Fire among others will be on my playlist today.

  19. The Nash relics are particularly poor from what I've seen, done with a belt sander I assume.
  20. GHS Pressurewound could be an option for the Jaguar? Best of both world option. Something different for the Wal, Dean Markley Blue Steel? Comes in a range of gauges too.
  21. I called their landline and he called back very soon after, regarding possible trade in items and suitable stock. First time I've used them and would happily use them again.
  22. Nice colour combo, no matter the other brands and types of bass I have I always come back to the P.
  23. The strings are great but fitting them to my newly acquired Dingwall (I did buy the multiscale set) was a challenge.. Bent bit of tin bridges I'm fine with, I really struggle with those that don't secure the ball end until the string has a fair bit of tension, couple that with the recessed tuners and large hands. Many expletives were said that I'm not proud of..
  24. Just got my first set of Newtone Strings, it says on the pack not to cut them until up to pitch, I've also watched the video on the website which does say to cut strings after bending them for slotted tuners. Being the clumsy ham fisted individual that I often am, how do my fellow basschatters install their Newtone Strings? As I don't want to mess it up. I've never had any issues installing any other sets of strings but you never know..
  25. Repetition and muscle memory, some songs I've not played for years I might be a bit rusty on, I might not remember everthing perfect but muscle memory definately helps. Developing your ear is also helpful, a band I only rehearse with once a month, often I have trouble remembering the key of a song but once a chord is played by the guitar or keys I'm in.
