1. It's about the only bass from the Epiphone/Gibson catalogue I'd look to buy. There was a second had one in a my local music shop and I was very tempted to buy it.
2. I've got one of these, and my word is it loud, small and light. It's size and weight make them really easy to move around. Very good cabs.
3. They're certainly not going to be for everyone. They are very 'voiced' and have been designed to a particular tone IMO. The punch is what I liked, for others it's not what they'll want...which is all good.
4. I'm not sure there isn't a bass I'd sell. I don't intend on selling any of the 3 basses I've got at the moment, I'm very happy with them (although saying that I don't actually play the Ibanez anymore really), but that's not to say if I saw something I really wanted in the future, and it meant selling them to get it, they wouldn't end up in the for sale section.
I have a Mexican P bass 2013 and a Squier VM Jazz. Its unlikely that I will sell either because they are both perfectly good basses and worth far more to me to keep than the lowish price I would get if I sold them. I am generally more dissatisfied with expensive basses because I expect them to be perfect and I get annoyed when they are not, so I sell them. With the two current basses I know that they are not high end instruments, they are not perfect and I can accept that more because of their relatively low value. This might sound like twisted logic, hanging onto something because I know its not perfect! Does this make sense?!
Makes sense. There is the expectation that expensive gear should have near no 'faults'. The most expensive bass, and it wasn't that expensive, I've bought was a serious disappointment. I couldn't get a decent action on it, the neck buzzed like a chainsaw for me. I got rid of it.
5.
WHAAT??
Take your fingers out of your ears!
6.
Maybe you do if your selling your Rumble!
A good point, well made
7. It's always good to see the actual guitar or bass player running through their rig and not palming off the interview to their tech. Great rig rundown, I really enjoyed it, and good fun. The interviewer didn't have to do an awful lot, Doug was brilliant... 'bendy pedals'
8.
I have said it before, I think those Rumble cabs add a lot to the sound.. I have DI'd my Rumble combo for recording but much prefer the sound I get when the cab is mic'ed up.
I didn't get a chance to DI my combo when I had it, but I thought it'd be the case that it was the 'whole' thing that made the tone as it was. I think you need the whole package as such.
9. If I had the money I'd buy this in a heart beat, they are that good. Small, light, uncomplicated and a lovely tone.
10.
Yeah - the combo. Really light, I'm amazed that there's so much sound coming out of it!
It is a little surprising how something that has such little weight has such good tone and volume. Good choice.
11. They're good bits of kit. Great tone. I assume you got the combo.
12. Could you hum the tune?
13. I'd get in touch with Alex, he may suggest an alternative BF cab. Then order it, try it out and see, or rather listen, and make your mind up. Gear and tone are very personal and individual things. BF make a great product, the only way you'll find out if you like it is if you try one.
14.
How do you say heft in French?
Accent on the 'e', soften the 't'
15. I had a Samick made '91 made Precision. The neck was quite remarkable for a bass I paid very little for, it was like flame maple, it was the reason I kept hold of it for so long. The body was ply, but that wasn't an issue...someone apparently thought is was a US Std body, so there you go. The only thing that was crappy about it were the pots and pickups, easily sorted for little money. I've noticed that all Squier prices seem to be on the up. I've seen sellers asking well in excess of £200 for Korean Squiers. They are good, but I don't think they're that good. All the more odd as at the time they were roundly slagged off by more 'knowledgable' types. All that said, I actually prefer my Indonesian made VM P bass I bought a couple of months ago, a better bass all round and about the same price as I paid for the MIK I had.
16.
Pretty much my last contribution to TB was on a thread about celebrities who play musical instruments. I mentioned that Tony Blair (who was PM at the time) played guitar at one time. That was all -- but it was enough to earn me a public bollocking for supposedly contravening their 'no politics' rule..!
They're a prickly and humourless bunch. Apart from that I find it way too big to be of any use...and being so US focused, naturally, most of the time of little use.
17. I'd say they we're rebadged MAGs that Ashdown may have done a deal on, wanted to move on as they're now promoting the newer RootMaster range. A lot of amp for £250
18. The Gain and Drive controls on the Tonehammers take some getting used. The drive, for example, doesn't just create a distorted type sound, it also interacts with the EQ section and basically changes your EQ. I'd never describe it as either growly or loose. Try it with a Jazz bass. Mine sounds very tight It takes some getting used to. That said, if you want a Foo Fighters sound, buy Ashdown
19.
Mine arrived yesterday. Only had a quick 10 mins with it at low volume but it sounds really really nice. I'm looking forward to band practice on Weds very much. Here's what it looks like with a 40 yr old Fender Bassman on top. A very cute half stack IMO.
Oh my, a Fender Bassman. I might need to change my under garments.
20. I'm not a fan of the Warwick Rockbags. I had one and it didn't last very long at all, the inside lining started to come away. I look after my stuff and I only used it a few times from home to practice. Even before that it didn't seem particularly good value for money. I've had one of these before, http://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/Kinsman-Premium-Bass-Guitar-Bag/38R they're pretty good. Good amount of padding. I like the look of that Thomann Premium gigbag, good price.
21. It seems Mr Torkington now does an Elton John tribute act.
22. It's probably best to wait until the autopsy has been performed...
23. Completely stunned, it's very difficult to believe it's true, and I'm not someone who really listened to his music. Dreadful news.
24.
It won't make much difference between 4 and 8, really.
Totally agree. I A/B'd 4 and 8ohm cabs in a practice room a while ago, the difference in output, at the same settings, was marginal. I think on the 8ohm I pushed the master volume up not even a full notch to get the same volume. If you stick any of the newish 500w heads on these new BF 410's it'll still probably knock buildings down.
