  1. I hate sanding down paint, it's soul destroying.

Sounds like a Judas Priest album title: "Paint stripper (destroyer of souls)"

Probably sounds better than a Judas Priest album

Brain the size of a small planet & I'm sanding down paint 🙄😁

  2. Had vari-focal lenses for about 3hrs, they're pretty good. I don't have to take my glasses off to read anymore. 😀

  3. A first for me. Made myself 2 new instrument cables. Not the greatest of soldering but tidy enough for OCD 😆 I'm quite chuffed.

Excellent!  I taught myself to do it during the first lockdown and found it most satisfying.  Since then I've done a couple of full wiring installs to my basses, made up a load of custom patch leads for my pedal board, and changed the plugs on a couple of leads.  Great fun, and the more you do it the better you get (and quikcly too)!

@franzbassist I made a bit of a hash of the first one, it works but it seemed to take forever.  The second one took a matter of a few minutes.  It's very satisfying. I've got some cable left over that I'll make up some short leads with.

  4. What a fine howdy do. I'm signed off for 2 weeks with Labyrinthitis,  middle son tested positive for Covid this morning,  wife still feeling after effects of covid 3 months on.

    What a crappy day.

I've been prescribed some tablets, I can't remember what they are called but they take the edge off.  It's the most irritating thing I've had.

My brother phoned me today, first time in ages, asked how I was. He nearly wet himself when I said that on Thursday evening I was so dizzy I nearly fell off my beanbag (I rarely sit on the sofa).

Had that last year - mental! Got out of bed, fell on the floor. Stood up - fell on the bed. Wee doctor was excellent - said it's either an infection or dehydration. I drank litres of water a day and it was gone two days later. `Hope yours clears top quickly.

I'm suffering from it at the minute - unfortunately looks as if it could be Menieres though.

  5. My autocorrect is on something really odd.

'I'll get my coat' became 'I'll get my case widget'.

    😲🤪

  6. I've tried not to be interested in playing music, even tried to stop listening to music. I thought, I'm bored of it all.

I'm just kidding myself. I can't stop. I was up the other night watching something about REO Speedwagon...I don't even like REO Speedwagon.

Family aside :) Music is my first love.

      Love the sentiment but....

I now have the song of the same name by John Miles playing in my head.

Well that was a close call. When it happened to me, I bought a banjo. And now look.

  7. Brilliant!!! The guy I work with/share a van with at work has just tested positive for covid.

That sucks. Too many employers are all too ready to play fast and loose with their employees' wellbeing. I sincerely hope you stay well and manage to dodge the lurgy. I guess you're having to isolate from your loved ones too?

My neighbour is currently in Intensive Care at the Lister Hospital in Stevenage with COVID.

He is a Liver Transplant patient so is more vulnerable than most of us.

Bugger - fingers crossed for you.

I'm so lucky to have no immediate pressure to return to the office. It's crazy how slack a significant majority of people now appear to be with precautions.

  8. Maybe time to book an appointment with the dentist. The repair he did on my broken tooth (he drilled out the filling and put in a new one, that was it) has failed miserably from day one...and that was about 2 months ago I have a huge hole in my tooth and tooth ache every day, for the last 6 weeks. But I hate dentists...

    1. gjones

      gjones

I had a friend who went on tour with a singer who had a fear of dentists. He got severe toothache halfway through the tour and because he couldn't bare a visit to the dentist, asked my friend to pull out his tooth with a set of pliers.

      Which he did.

Do you have any friends who are handy with a set of pliers?

      That's a bit extreme 🙂

Extractions I can't sort of handle, it's the root canal and crown he wants to do that's put me off going back

    3. ezbass

      ezbass

If there's not much salvageable of the tooth, a cap is the best way forward (or go with a gap). Root canal pre cap is also sensible, I speak from experience of having to have a cap drilled through to do an RC as the cap wouldn't come off. I'm an odontophobe too. At least I was. If you can find someone who is sympathetic to your fear, it makes all the difference. It took me years to find a dentist who understood my fear and I was happy to visit, but I did. Unfortunately, I then moved 500+ miles away.

  9. It's all got so depressing I've grown a beard.

I've always purposely not grown one as it makes me look like a clone of my Dad (who's had a beard a long as I can remember, 47yrs). But what else is there to do at the moment :)

      Lightweights, the lot of you!

  10. That's really it then, no more music or bands for me. The vast majority of my gear is sold. I'm left with a bag of cables and one keeper bass (still have another for sale, possibly sold...). 10 years of effort trying to find a 'functioning' band and nothing to show for it. Very much feels I've wasted a lot of time.

Part of the reason I quit bass for about 10 years and played flamenco guitar (tried to I mean). But I came back. You'll be back, just need some time out. Consider a change - get a fretless and find some unplugged / electro-acoustic guys - whole different vibe and nice people in my experience.

Marvin , I know that feeling I've recently bought myself a electric guitar has I started on guitar and love playing the blues ,I'm at a cross roads I will probably keep one bass and a combo and sell the rest + gigs the late nights band politics you can keep its not for me my time is to precious and bass is boring me to death in a band situation these days good luck with what ever you pursue 👍

  11. It's January, so it's that time of year when the band I'm in decides to implode. It's a different band every year by the way. Back to square one it is then.

Cheers @gary mac. I thought this band had some longevity, but clearly not. I managed to join at the tale end. Oh well, back to the drawing board.

Yes, I know that story well. Sorry to hear that - looks like it's happening to one of the bands I'm in as well
It's the reason I always feel I have to be involved in a few bands / projects....
Still, onwards & upwards - it's never a "waste of time" - as long as it keeps you playing, and you continue to improve. Good luck with the search & next band :)

      Happy Jack

I've been in a fair old number of imploding bands, but at least we never diarised the event!

Bassists are always the organisers in any band ... start your own.
