1. Would REALLY recommend the Aguilar AG-4J 70s pickups for a really Marcus Miller-esque tone! I'm currently using them in my '75 Jazz with the Aguilar DB-924 preamp, and the tone is spot on! Had the Nordstrand "70s wind" NJ4s in before these, but they were a bit too warm and low-middy if anything! More Geddy than Marcus...
 2.
Mad price for a vintage Jazz Bass. I'm very, very surprised this isn't sold mate.
Thanks mate! Yeah, I know, this is a bargain folks! I know it may be a bit on the heavier side for some, but you'll forget all about that when you hear and play it! I did ;-)
 3. Price drop! Absolute bargain price for this beautiful bass!...
 4. Bought a Wal off Chris, and he's just dropped it off at my house today!! Amazingly easy deal, great communication, and overall a thoroughly helpful and friendly guy! Thanks for all your help Chris, I'll keep you updated on the continuing saga of the Wal mongrel! ;-)
 5. Thanks for the suggestions guys, and for the PM Chris! I think I'll buy a 70s bridge and transplant the saddles, should do the trick
 6. So, my AVRI 62 Jazz Bass has the vintage threaded saddles on it (these, if you're not familiar with what I mean!). The problem is that I'm quite a heavy right-hand player, and I keep wearing out the threads on the E String saddle, which means the string doesn't stay in place and ends up wobbling about between the threads...I've been through five saddles now (official Fender ones which are actually ridiculously expensive for what they are), and this keeps happening! Rather than change my technique, is anyone aware of a way around this, or if there is some method of strengthening the threads on the saddle so they don't wear out quite as easily? I (and my wallet) would appreciate any advice that anyone can give! Thanks, Al
 7.
the SA Manta is also capable. no expression out though...
I'm guessing he's probably found one by now! ...
 8.
Looks beautiful. It's also the first bass I've ever seen pictured in a bathroom!
Thank you! Yeah, the bathroom was the only place I could get good lighting...If you look closely you'll see a reflection of me in a similarly beautiful vest too!
 9. For sale, my beloved vintage 1975 Jazz Bass! Maple board, black body, black scratchplate. Tight neck pocket, ludicrously stable neck, punchy and powerful pickups, this is one of the good 70s Jazz Basses! Just want to list the non-original/negative elements straightaway:

It's had a refret by the Bass Gallery in Camden. Excellent job, which has retained the vintage tint, and the bass currently has a low action with no fret buzz!
The pickups have been wax-potted by Bare Knuckle. All original aside from that though, and the BK guys tested them and reported absolutely no issues!
There's a small crack just under the E tuner (visible in photos). This has been professionally glued at some point though, and it's very solid and will not cause any problems!
It's a bit heavy at 12lbs/5.4kg
Aside from that, it's all original and sounds incredible!! I've removed the original metalwork/ashtrays and thumbrest, but these are included. I will also include an excellent condition Hiscox hardcase! I'm looking for £1650 for this beauty, which will include fully insured UK shipping. Alternatively, I'm happy for anyone to collect from me in North-West/Central London, in which case I'll let it go for £1600! Absolutely NO TRADES, thanks. I've bought something expensive, so need to recoup some cash! Any questions, let me know
 10.
A B3K is not a replacement for a RAT, it's much less fizzy
Ha! Are you serious!?...I've had two B3Ks, and it was the fizziness of the distortion that I couldn't stand. My COG TK-421 (RAT clone) is not in the least bit fizzy.
 11. Another TC Corona here, it's great!
 12.
got to be the TK421x from COG for me - I've always had a hankering for a RAT based pedal, and after trying most of the popular ones (fuzzrocious, idiot box, not to mention the original RAT) the COG just sounds right. It's the core tone for my new band
Good call, and totally agreed (although I got mine in 2014...). It's the perfect RAT!
I really do need to try that one!!
Just do yourself a favour, sell your Rat Tail and order one now. You can thank me later.
 13. I liked your 70s Jazz Bass shoot-out btw, it influenced me to put the Nordy 70s-wind pickups in my 75!
 14.
Have you ever made a comparison video of a Classic StingRay and a pre-Ernie Ball StingRay?
I'd love to see/hear this, I don't think anyone's ever done one!
 15.
An improvement...
Haha, definitely this! So now there are a few more frequency options for your fizz!? Great...
 16.
Have a look at strymon stuff really nice delays
The Strymon stuff is great! I've got the El Capistan but it does colour your sound, even at the mildest settings, as it's based on a tape echo. They recently released the DIG which looks great for a clean, non-coloured digital delay! Bit pricey though... I still have my Nova Delay (as a backup), and I reckon it sounds pretty perfect for what you're after. You'll probably be able to pick up a used one at a decent price too. I got mine for £100 off Gumtree.
 17.
I'm not a vintage expert, so pardon me if it's a stupid question... but does one knob appear to be missing on purpose?
I think it's a coin or something embedded in the scratchplate, 58 P basses only have two knobs.
 18.
Cheers for the tips. I see everyone say they should go as early as possible in a chain but see a lot of people use them after dirt, so I'm going to try a lot of combinations before I decide where to put it.
If you use the Microsynth after (and with) dirt, the filter sweeps will be more intense, kinda like how a wah pedal works before/after dirt...Like people say though, this will probably affect the tracking of the sub voice. Personally I always use octaver/harmoniser > dirt > microsynth.
 19.
Jon uses a Tech 21 Bass XXL for this live, and with his ashdown roaring gets pretty close! Speaking of which I've been trying to find a Bass XXL for ages so if anyone has one for sale... hah!
They had one downstairs in the Bass Gallery last time I was there, maybe worth a call?
 20.
You don't need to take the neck off to adjust a heel truss rod. Just loosen the screws off enough to angle the nut out the pocket.
Or just buy a Cruztools truss rod driver, and you won't ever have to take the neck off again (unless you need photos of the stamps, etc)! Don't get the jazz neck - dive problem...I've had six so far, and never experienced this. Most have been too body - heavy if anything! My personal bugbear is Spector bridges - no screws to adjust, wobbling around on two legs...Really difficult to set up. I've had two (euro and Kramer-era US) and loved the sound, but this was a major contributer to me selling them!
 21.
ain't that the truth!
Amen to that. Know you had one before, but you need a low gain Knightfall 66 into that and the TK. It gives them both just a little bit extra ;-)...
 22.
Isn't Mexico in the Americas?
It is, but it's not one of the states in the USA (just to be a pedant! ;-))...
