  1. I used to have a 2001 Euro 4/NSCRFM that I sold to @Aero71 Absolutely stonking bass that I still really miss. Incredible craftsmanship and tone from the EMGs and Aguilar preamp and, at the time, similar price to a Mexican Fender! @Aero71 Definitely interested in buying that back if you ever decide to sell šŸ˜‰
  2. Already ordered, my friend šŸ˜‰ Cheers!
  3. Thanks, yeah, pretty sure it wasn't that. As mentioned in the OP, never noticed this on my other basses and I've been fretting notes on one of those for 19 years! šŸ˜‰ As an update, took the strings off today and gave the board a good wipe with an EB fretboard wipe and the marks have now all but disappeared...Bizarre. Anyway, shall now be taking Chiliwailer's advice and will be getting some flats on this asap to prevent future near-heart attacks... Thanks all for your help!
  4. 🤣 Quite. Yes, just to confirm (after some self-reassuring checks just now...), this is definitely not the cause! I wish I had 1/10th of that strength in my left hand fingers!
  5. Thanks, yeah, I'm going to try a touch of mineral oil and see if it helps
  6. Yeah, think I will ask them. I would've thought Sunbeams are quite soft as far as rounds go? Yeah, I'd seen that. Mine's not quite as bad as that one, though I imagine it wouldn't take too long for mine to get like that if I carry on...
  7. Thanks, Chiliwailer, but I'm under the impression that this has occurred during my ownership...Definitely a reasonable amount of relief in the neck overall too so I'm not sure that's it. I really bought this bass with the intention of playing and recording it so flats just wouldn't be an option for me, unfortunately, but I'm going to need to reconsider if there's potential for any serious fretboard damage šŸ˜•
  8. N.B. Mods - wasn't sure whether to put this here or in Repairs & Technical...Please move if inappropriate! Hi all, I'm looking for a bit of advice. Basically, I bought a lovely Jazz a few months ago. The bass is in remarkable shape and, after a light fret dress at The Gallery, it's playing remarkably well. After playing it the other day, however, I caught the fretboard in the sunlight and noticed wear from the strings rubbing against it. The scratches are light and mainly around the first few frets on the lower strings, but I just wanted to get some advice on whether this is unusual? I've always predominantly played basses with maple fretboards and never noticed similar wear... The frets are the medium jumbo type, but very little wear. I'm also pretty sure I don't have an overly aggressive left hand technique. Also use DR Sunbeams (nickel) strings. Would appreciate some help and advice on this. Cheers, Al
  9. Great collection, I love those 90s SS1 Ltd editions with the Bart soapbars šŸ˜
  10. I used to own a 2001 Streamer Stage 2 which was an absolutely flawless bass in every respect apart from the plastic nut (Just-A-Nut 2). Ended up trading it and have always regretted the decision...
  11. I've got the Nordstrand 2B-MM in my 79 Stingray, currently, preserving the original...The Nordy definitely sounds a bit better! High quality components and true to the Pre-EB 2 band design. Quite pricey but probably about the same as the East? http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Nordstrand_Preamps.html
  12. Incredible 66 Jazz I recently purchased off Pmjos of this parish! Absolute dream of a bass...
  13. Defo this, I find the most challenging part those muted straight 16ths at the start... Talking of muted 16ths, I've recently started to work my way through the Tower of Power back-catalogue as part of my practice regime. Good stamina-building parts!
  14. I think the important thing to note about Hooky's melody lines, especially in Joy Division, is that he'd often be adding an open string 'drone' alongside the line to keep some low end, e.g. She's Lost Control. He did this less so in New Order, though there was usually a Moog Source or similar synth pumping the bassline out, and his Clone Theory chorus sound would cut through most mixes! This is my recent attempt at a definitely Hooky-influenced bassline!
  15. Current Bass Whammy does down a tone well, and has the polyphonic mode so you can play chords without it going warbly.
  16. Amazing, one for the Norman Watt-Roy fans! Just to note that a couple of the photos seem to have come out a bit small on your ad...Would love to see that neck heel! Also, as that pickguard's from '65, I assume it's vinyl and not celluloid? Finally, what's your location?
  17. Thank the lord this is not a 4 string or I'd be in serious trouble...Beautiful, GLWTS!
  18. Fender definitely have those Pure Vintage 74 values the wrong way round on their website, bridge is the higher value. Look at Nordy, Bare Knuckle, etc. 70s specs for comparison...
  19. Ye gods! I just can't understand why someone would put the time and effort into making something that looked like that...Love the idea of someone turning up to a jam at a smokey old blues bar and pulling that out of the case!
  20. Thanks mate, a few images in here, very happy with it! The screws in it are still small, just definitely not Fender type screws and, as I'm quite obsessive about these things I'm very keen to get it looking right! ...
  21. Hi all, I wondered if someone could please help? I recently bought a 1965 Jazz Bass and the three control plate screws appear to have been changed at some point, so I’m trying to find some period-correct replacements. I assumed it would be these pickguard screws, but following on from advice and having checked pictures of other basses from this year, the control panel screws appear to be a little smaller than the pickguard screws. I just wondered whether anyone could advise on what type of screw is required and, if so, where I might be able to purchase some from? Alex
  22. Firstly, massive thanks to everyone for your comments on this. It's definitely made me focus on the fact that the bass is a great player and that, aside from these minor "adjustments" it's still a beautiful old Fender at its heart! :-) Guy, thank you very much for the offer, I appreciate it! I'll just stick with the screws that are on there I think though, everything else on/in the bass checks out...I'll just consider the overspray, screws, etc. as interesting additions in its 52-year history!
  23. Yeah, all cross-head and no slot-head on a '65 JB as far as I understand...
  24. Yeah, I'd Googled quite a bit and mine are definitely different...Just couldn't be sure whether they differed from the scratchplate ones on the images though, but this clarifies so thanks!
