1. Really tempted by this! However, perplexed by the fact that there are seperate outputs for the drive and deep channels, and no way to blend them? Am I being stupid and is there a simple way around this?

 4.
I always thought they used Swanp ash what other kind of ash would they have used? Swan ash grows in the US
I believe they also used northern American ash, or "hard ash" as it's also known. Different species to swamp...Tends to be the heavier stuff, and also what they used for baseball bats as far as I understand!
 5.
Interesting, I didn't think microphonic pickups sounded like that but I've not come across many of them to be fair. Could you describe what happens tonally when they become microphonic?
You generally get a clearer, fatter sound from them IME, though taps/clicks/other sympathetic sounds that playing generates tend to be emphasised somewhat...The classic test is to put the guitar through a reverb or echo pedal, and shout into the pickup(s). If you can clearly hear your voice in the trail or repeats, you've got microphonics going on!
 6.
I had a 78...weighed as much as a boat anchor...it was also one of the worst, most lifeless basses I've ever played
Opposite experience with my 75 Jazz, which is a proper boat anchor (5.5kg!), but is the most resonant, lively-sounding Jazz Bass I've played...Seriously hit or miss period for wood quality, as many others will surely attest! Mine came with microphonic pickups which, by the sound of it, is the case with the one you've tried. Sounded great when I tried it out (and subsequently bought it!), but squealed like a banshee through a loud amp before I'd even added any additional gain...Stuck some Bare Knuckle PE pickups in it, and now it's just perfect! I'd never sell it.
 7. Isn't the Tone Hammer pretty much just an OBP-3 in pedal format, but with sweepable mid control and an overdrive circuit? Maybe get one of those and see if you like how it sounds, without having to carve your bass up!?
 8. Mmmmm, this is right up my alley...Are you up for trades? Anything specific in mind if so?
 9. They sound great when you really dig in, especially on (w)hole notes
 10. Is the decal going to be easily removable, i.e. Is it just a waterslide on the surface, or has it been lacquered over?
 11. noun

the lowest adult male singing voice.
denoting the member of a family of instruments that is the lowest in pitch
12. Don't normally like natural finishes, but that's lovely! Beautiful piece of wood
 13. Sounds a bit smooth on that video, I assume it's capable of that Geddy-esque growl and clank that we all know and (some of us) love!?
 14. I use the Bass Whammy after my Sub Phatty to do this kind of thing, and it works great! Definitely octave pedals BEFORE the Whammy. I find the Whammy doesn't sound cheesy at all if it's fed more of a gritty signal. You may have been given that impression by all the guys on YouTube, doing w***y slap on a Warwick through the octave up setting?
 15. Sold Graeme my Nordstrand NJ4 pickups. The whole thing was agreed and paid for within about five minutes, and his communication was very prompt and friendly. Pleasure dealing with you Graeme, enjoy the Nordies!
 16.
Shame those nj4's weren't the 70's winds,as I'm after a set 😀
Yeah, they're not really close unfortunately...If you aren't already aware, Bass Direct have the 70s wind in stock!
