1.
Thanks for sharing Sibob, great resource you have there! The Beta and Xotic both sound great to myears, but I think I'm gonna go with the Knightfall as I like the idea of having a transparent tone that I can dial darkness into.
I'd recommend that you go for the Knightfall 66 over the standard model. Two channels with independent controls (apart from blend, though it's not neccesary! ) and diode selection mean it's almost like two distortion boxes in one! I have mine on ALL the time... Talk to Tom (COG), you may need to wait a while longer but it's worth it!
 2.
This is the bass mine was modelled on. I asked for exactly the same spec, just in Sea Foam. Good luck with the sale Alex. Cheers, Karl.
Thanks Karl, I'm gutted to have to move it on They're beautiful and fantastically crafted basses, and I know I'll regret it...
 3.
It looks very dark in the pictures, is that a fair representation of the colour, or just the camera? I'm looking for a burgundy mist reissue, but burgundy mist like the Fender shade? Many thanks in advance. Rick
Actually Rick, the shade's very close to the BM on this CS Tele http://www.chicagomusicexchange.com/products/fender-custom-shop-60-telecaster-custom-deluxe-burgundy-mist-metallic
 4.
noooooo, dont sell it!!
Needs must unfortunately, really wish I didn't have to...:-(

It has a nice, aged darkness to it though. The pics on Mark's site are the best representation!
 6.
For that sort of tone I found the B3K was the one for me.
Really!? I've Never heard a B3K do anything like the sounds in either of those videos, and I owned one for a year...For me it made everything sound like Meshuggah or Periphery!
 7. Think I might have to sell my Burgundy Mist 64 Jazz soon, needs must ...
 8. COG Knightfall 66; for that overdriven valvey amp sound, it's all you'd ever need! It's pretty difficult to get a convincing DFA1979 sound without having that Peavey/Acoustic amp combo, tbh. Closest I've got is running my Big Muff clone (Wren & Cuff Tall Font Russian) through my RAT clone (COG TK-421-X) with a bit of subtle, high rate chorus! I seem to be one of the very few on here that thinks the Darkglass Vintage sounds like total s**t...I've tried two now (as I was convinced there must have been something wrong with the first) and it just sounds like a blanket over a cab with blown, farty speakers to me! That was with the "Era" control on full as well, the farts just got more disgusting the further back that went!...
 9.
This looks a lot like mine, right down to that divot in the paint on the left, caught by the light! Do you still have the pedal hernandoitwt? I bought mine from a member here some time last year- I wonder if this is the very same one!
It's the same one. I bought it off hernandoitwt, and you bought it off me!
 10.
I've got a rehearsal with an electronica project coming up this week, so I've put all of my favourite pedals onto my large board. I'm waiting on some new stuff coming very soon from Cog Effects too, so this layout will change a bit when they arrive. In the mean time, lots of noise to be made with this lot....
Nice board Alex, and good to see that little looper pedal on there! Hope it's doing its job well :-)
 11. Thanks guys! Just to confirm, I have no doubt about the authenticity of the bass. A little bit of research has revealed that American Vintage Reissues (at least post-2000) have the waterslide decal directly applied, not glossed over... It's apparently the case that if I take some photos of the bass and a trace of the neckplate "V" serial #, then take this to an authorised Fender dealer, they should be able to source an official replacement decal (and hopefully apply it!). I just wondered if anyone else had been through this process, whether it worked out, and how easy/difficult it was?...
 12. So I was using my Jazz Bass at the weekend, and at one point I noticed that part of the "Offset Contour Body" part of the decal seemed to have moved. I poked it, and it slid off entirely! I'll post pics later on, but I am now left only a small part of that decal section remaining... Has anyone else experienced this with any of the American Vintage Fenders? I know for authenticity they apply the decals directly to the headstock on 60s guitars and basses, but this seems a bit shoddy! I'm thinking of going down the root of having this verified by an "Authorised Fender Distributor", and trying to get a replacement decal applied. If anyone has gone down this root before, and knows somewhere in London to have this done, please can you let me know. I'd appreciate some advice because it sounds like a pain in the a**e! Thanks, Al
 13.
cool stuff. how the hell does he play songs tuned that low (A, I think?) with 4 strings??
Probably strings it BEAD (i.e. the lowest four strings from a five string set), rather than EADG.
 14.
Hey guys, Does anyone have an opinion or even better audio clips of the TK-421-X they would care to share? I'm seriously thinking about getting one after i picked Up a Knightfall 66 on here which i instantly fell in love with. I'm using a Rat Tail at the minute as my dirtiest distortion but as much as i want to love it its just not quite hit the spot for me. Been chatting to Tom over email (what a nice guy i might add!) and what he has to say makes me think the TK might be something i want in my life. Cheers!
I have a TK-421-X with added High Pass Filter control ("Signor Gattino" on the pedalboard pic in my signature), and along with the Knightfall 66 it's a huge part of my sound. It is awesome! I've previously owned a vintage RAT, Fuzzrocious Rat Tail and Idiotbox Blower Box, and I sold them because this destroys them!...I think Tom ships them with the NE5534 chip, which sounds good, but I had him fit the LM308 in mine and it's perfect. Absolutely no low-end loss, and when you've heard it with the gain up on the asymmetric LEDs setting you'll never go back!
 15. Defo agree with rhythmbug, for your purposes I think the Sansamp VT Bass would be a lot more appropriate. The B3K and BDDI have a similar gnarly, quite scooped character to the grind sound. The Darkglass Vintage is popular around here as a drive pedal (I hate it personally), but I'm not sure how well the Deluxe version fares as a preamp pedal. Have a listen to the VT Bass demos on YouTube, obviously it does a pretty good imitation of Ampeg Flat-tops and SVTs which is about as good as you can get for a creamy valve drive sound IMO! Plus it's a LOT cheaper than a DG Vintage Deluxe... This is a pretty good start: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZBKxMaWSKuU
 16. Glad this has sold, one less temptation...Stunning bass, and I thought my Warwick/Spector days were behind me! Bet it sounds awesome :-)
 17.
I'm not a big fan of Rob Chapman in those Anderton videos.
Aye, he strikes me as a bit of a plonker...
 18.
would have been awesome to have a clean blend incorporated into this
Yeah, think Adam (Crowella) has been working on this with his new "Bitmap" pedal. With this though, I think he just wanted to get a good, working clone of the original Animato out there and there was clearly a demand. John K did an awesome clone with a clean blend, but they sold out ridiculously quickly. Details on that here. Would recommend that everyone checks out his "Bass Overdrives" page, the man's built so many great clones!...
 19.
Just wanted to say that I got the pedal from Crowella just before christmas and having used it a couple of times can confirm that it's absolutely ace! I'll post some samples ASAP
Would love to hear some samples of this! What you using to blend?
 20. I'm looking for a blender pedal, and liking the look of the simple one knob dry/wet mix type (i.e. Wounded Paw Blender V1, Mosquite Blender, Barge Concepts VBJR, etc). I want to know one thing, and cannot ascertain it for any of these models...If I have the knob in the middle, i.e. 50% dry/50% wet, will the dry signal be at unity (i.e. same volume as the signal when the blender is bypassed) or will it be quieter? I hope this makes sense, would appreciate any advice anyone can give! Cheers, Alex
 21.
I`ve just bought a Hot Rod (ex-Wizard) Thumper and it does a 70s Precision tone very well. Scoops some of the mids out a bit, so sharper top-end, which is how I find my 78 sounds so if 70s Precision tones are required, I`d recommend these (I`m not too keen on SD QPs either).
This is interesting, hadn't heard about the Hot Rod pickups yet. I had a Wizard Trad in my old (now James') Precision and it was inexpensive and fantastic, so if Hot Rod are doing the same then it'll be well worth it! :-)
 22.
Maybe I should swap this out for an SPB1 or equivalent Dimarzio. What do you guys reckon?
Have you considered the Fralin, Bare Knuckle or Aguilar options?
 23. I chose the Neunaber over the Blue Sky, as it has the most beautiful sounding decay. Blue Sky's more versatile, but didn't sound quite as good to me. Can also vouch for the Neunaber sounding fantastic with the El Cap! ;-)
 24. I tried one down Denmark St, quite (but not too) heavy and a nice chunky neck. My only gripe was the SD Quarter Pounder, the opposite of a good vintage P sound to my ears unfortunately...If you get hold of a second-hand Wizard Trad or Fender CS pickup and replace that, it should do the trick though!
