Drove from Norfolk for a weekend festival on the Isle of Wight , and left my amp at home . Borrowed for the first day , but the second day , had to use an old HH MA100 PA head "they found out the back" - not a striking tone from that , hehe . When I was a young'n , I forgot my strap , and did the gig sitting down . I wonder if Anthony Jackson saw me play and stole the idea for playing sitting down from me - though I'm less portly than him

They had "Don't give up" on Radio this morning , and I just love that bassline . I can't really think of many basslines that are as integral to a tune (let alone a ballad) as that one . Double stops all the way - lovely

Ricky - Iconic look , but does nothing for me . Thunderbird - as above . Hofner Beatle bass - tried one , and can't see the attration . (unless the look is desirable , ie tibute stuff) Alembic Stanley Clarke - superb build , but doesn't even balance right - neck dive badly on the one I tried . As mentioned , it's each to their own (as with cars and women etc . )

Mine arrived today . Yet to try it , but it's hard to believe how small it is until you have it in your hand - it looks great . My first 'pedal' tuner

Lovin the micro look . Was after tuner , and it'll fit just nice on my ever expanding micro pedal board . So I've just bought one , hehe

Used to love driving back from Canvey years ago , and looking at the power station lights - found them quite magical . Once I hit the A12 , that feeling went . Used to fall asleep at the wheel quite a lot , not now though . Used to quite like Bob Harris on the way home , but strangely a bit bored by him now . Oh and I've too listened to the shipping forecast , can't make head nor tail of it , but find it quite calming , thinking of all the small boats out there . Strange thoughts sometimes , late at night . Quite enjoy the trip home , often more than the trip to the gig - bizarre .

I bought an SFX Micro Thumpinator , and the principle is the same . Wouldn't gig without it now .

Years ago , I gigged on the country circuit , and the guitarist had a Boogie 1x12 combo that had a 50 or 15 watt switch on the back . He never used the 50 watts , only the 15 watts , and it was plenty loud enough , and we were quite loud as a band on that circuit . He used to use any old chair at the venue to prop it up nearer ear level . Maybe this is what your guy needs to do - just prop it up . He'd probably be surprised at how little "wattage" or "SPL" or whatever measurement you want to trapse out , that he actually needs . Just a thought .

Just whip the E string down to a C for this one number , then tune it up again . Our lot play this , and that's what I do . You'll get quite quick at doing it after a while , and you can also fine tune on harmonics on the E string , that's now a C , and the G string . Try that and see how you go .

I don't know what your budget is , but I've yet to hear a 210 combo of any other brand , out perform the Eden Metro 210 . 2nd hand price - shop around , and it is bloody heavy .

Years ago in a Function band , before our main set of the night , we had accompany the Stage Manager's wife for the 'Kiddies Hour' music . Think 'Hilda Baker on an old Hammond' - that's what it was like . All the kids dancing to 'Knees up Mother Brown' etc , and the all time classic - 'The Birdies Song' . I've played that number maybe half a dozen times , and that's about 5 times too many . But , we got paid , it is sort of expected from a Holiday camp band (even one just in for the night , as we were) to play stuff like this if asked , and we got off with a few of the Red coats after . So a result all round

I saw this a while ago . Whilst some of their stuff is about right price wise , I recon that this is quite a bit over priced - nice , but about a few hundred too much .

[/quote]I've got a few basses , but have gigged just the one , on every gig bar one , for getting on for 20 years . I've done shed loads of function band work with that bass , and it'll do anything - within reason . Any half decent bass will cover most situations . All you need is the know how to work it . With fingers , slap , thumb palm mute , pick , plucking position of the hand , and maybe the odd effect or two , you can cover most bases . And I'll even argue that you'll improve , and have more fun , by coaxing it all out of the one bass .
