First public appearence - what to play?
BassBunny replied to Bobthedog's topic in General Discussion
Pretty much with everything already said. Check the bands current set-list first and see if there is anything there you know, makes it easier for them Dakota and Gimmi Some Lovin are pretty simple but as it's a female lead singer, what about Valerie or Mercy. As far as the " no music stand" rule, I'm not with that. We have just come back from a 3 day weekender and we were the only band NOT using a music stand or iPad. They were all pro musicians and that's the way they roll. It's your first Gig, ifvyou need a crib sheet, use one. -

Nanyo Bass Collection electrics upgrade
BassBunny replied to Pinball's topic in Repairs and Technical
As mentioned in your other post, I've got 3 x 5 strings and none have weak pickups in any way. All have original SGC pickups. Strangely enough I DID think my first one had a weak pickup, but realised that the blend control is not where I expected it to be, ie: it's below the Vol and not next to it. Soon as I realised I was rotating the Bass control, not blend, all was good. That said this particular one now sports a Bartolini pre-amp that I had kicking around. -
Cheers. Must swat up on my luthiers more.

I was watching a Gipsy Kings concert last night and the bass player was playing a bass I've never seen before. Any ideas of the maker? Sounded lush through his Accugroove Cabs. Apologies for the pics, I had to take them from the TV whilst the concert was on.

Our guitarist has a PA Hire Company and has 2 A&H desks that use an iPad interface. From his point of view they really are a quantum leap in technology. I helped him out on a recent festival gig where he was providing sound for 3 stages. Changeovers were a doddle as you can stand with each band member and set levels up whilst talking to them. He sets up his own WiFi network and can have a separate sound guy side stage adjusting monitor mix/volume. He reckons it has made his job so much easier.

ACG, and pretty sure Alan will do a neck through if you ask him.

I've got 3 of them, all 5'ers. Probably cost me about £450 for all 3. Awesome basses.

I've put East pre-amps in a number of basses and they have made a massive improvement to every one.

best pick up configuration and pre-amp for fretless?
BassBunny replied to zawinul's topic in Bass Guitars
If you are going for an ACG, just speak to Alan. He knows how his pickups sound. Excellent choice which gives you access to his filter pre-amp which is a must. -

Tecamp Puma Classic 112 combo vs Mark bass CMD121p
BassBunny replied to chrisanthony1211's topic in Amps and Cabs
I've had both. I was a MarkBass user, LMII with Zoot 1x12 cabs, and wondered if the Puma would be louder/better. Simple answer, in my opinion, is No. That said I do not get on with Class D amps. I find them lacking in "heft". Loud, yes, but lacked the authority of the MB class A/B. I moved the Puma on and got a CMD121p with a NY121. Awesome combination and IMHO a better solution all round. You can use the combo on it's own for rehearsals etc. and add the NY 121 when needed. My CMD was one of the last class A/B's before MB switched to a Class D output stage so my observations aren't based on current models. I still use MarkBass and having tried just about everything on the market, I can't see me ever using anything else. -
Mike, SK8, has a Chowny for sale. Check the Basses F/S section.
"De-fretted it's 3.9 kg on the bathroom scales and the nut is 45mm wide: B-E is 0.9cm, E-A 0.9cm, A-D 1cm and D-G 1 cm assuming you use Nylon Flats. It does not feel heavy and the body is quite contoured. At the Bridge the string spacing is between 1.6 cm and 1.8 cm depending on which strings! " A 4 string should be lighter.
Cheers Keith & G. it would be a 5-er I'm interested in. -
