I think you really need to go try a few amps out for yourself as then you will only discover exactly what your looking for....
+1 even at 90mins each way, it would be time well spent. The alternative is buying what someone else suggests, you don't like it, sell at a loss, buy what someone...... The sound you are after is very personal.
yes i think your quite correct there. I think it would be more benficial to learn what notes are in the chord rather than finger posistions. ie: C major is C,E,G (I,III,V) etc. So now i need to find somwhere has some bas chords i can print out and learn as arpeggios. Anyone know of a good place to get some that will print out well?
Daz, PM me your e-mail address and i will send you some chord info.

I used a Wilkinson Vintage Bridge on a No-Name P Bass I built up and it was really good. Really chunky and brass Saddles. Well worth the £11 odd from Axes-R-Us
Has anyone ever played a bass with them on? It looks complicated!
Yep. played a Dingwall Combustion at Bass Day last year. Awesome bass and until you've played one it is hard to understand what a difference it makes. The secret, (according to Mark at Bass Direct), is not to look down at the fingerboard, just trust in your muscle memory and it really works. The B string really is the best sounding one I have come across as it is around 37". Playing chords is a joy as well.
In my home town and I can't make it! Phooey. Can't imagine Mrs Simon. would be too impressed if I tried to cancel the holiday... Oh well. Good luck & enjoy, folks.
Don't be a "wuss" bring her along. That's what I am doing....
can you buy strings in bulk and if so where can i get them ?
Any particular make? Bass Centre will do deals on Elites. Promonade Music will do deals on any make and I would imagine anyone would be happy to negotiate a bulk buy. I have used Web-Strings http://www.webstrings.com/ and they are great. Reading between the lines thety are "Well known american made Strings". Ernie Ball?
I'll beat his offer by 10%. Seriously though, there seem to be a few available in the US from what I can see. So with a bit of soldering to sort the voltage taps out on the transformer...
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm, Do they have a Voltage Tapped transformer in them CK or is it a step-down "brick"? -
I discovered the 'That's The Way Of The World' album when it first came out. Changed my bass playing life. I saw them live in 76 supporting my favourite band, Santana, and they just stole the show.
Pete, We saw that tour/concert as well. They absolutely buried Santana. I loved their stage show as well. They were members of the Magic Circle and some of the "tricks" were amazing. Oh, and Verdine White is up in the top division. Have seen them about 5 or 6 times. Talking about stealing shows, James Brown made Red Hot Chilli Peppers look 2nd rate when I caught them in Manchester.
I was gigging in Warrington with my TC Electronics RH450 and PC112's set up on Sunday evening. Really good sound - full, punchy, tight and defined, with bass to spare. As we're only a four piece with one guitar and no keybaords it adds significantly to the sound we generate as a band. I'm really pleased with this set up. And, of course, loading up at the end of the gig is a breeze too!
Wish I had known you were playing in Warrington Mark. would have come over for a peek. Where were you at? As a slight aside, I was using my Zoot's with TC Rebelhead on Sunday and the addition of a GRAMMA Pad. You want a tight "bottom". Get one. I have had problems in this venue in the past as it has a largish stage and the sound is always "boomy". Have tried in vain to EQ it out to no avail. The Gramma Pad made all the difference.

Seymour Duncan 2 Band Pre amp
BassBunny replied to kevbass's topic in Accessories & Other Musically Related Items For Sale
Hi, thanks for the info, on the volume control, it reads"15A10K" and on the stacked bass and treble pot it reads "4B100KX2" but it was powering a passive soapbar MEC silver series pup, any thoughts?
The Volume Control is the Same for the STC2a and STC2p. The difference is the value of the "Blend" Control, (which your's doesn't have). Looks like it is OK with a passive PU. Are you sure it's an STC2? I have just sold one and it had a blend. -
If its a 5 string does that mean its an SB325?
Mine had been "diagnosed" as an SB325, but when I took the neck off to shim it, there is a stamp saying it is an SB 405. I guess the answer is to get the screwdriver out....... -
Just been offered a Musicman HD500 head with blown output transistors for £50 is it worth it?
If you Google Musicman HD500 there is a complete schematic available for it. Any competant electronics engineer should be able to fix it with that.

+1 for a Bass Trainer. Stick some phones on, slow the track down and you're away. I have also taken to "tabbing" my findings using Tuxguitar It's free open source software and has a player built in so you can check your results. I do it mainly because i am trying to learn to read and you can "tweak" the score it produces until it is right. Hopefully I will bin it in the future but at the moment it is helping me learn to read and produce some accurate scores.
theoretically,,, could you ask the shop to mark the box as a 'repair', thus avoiding customs charges ? what's the deal there ? oh, payment-wise, do it by credit-card. protection is a good idea. the exchange rate is as good as can be expected at the moment..
You will probably have problems with an insurance claim if it got damaged in transit.

Why aren't there any funk/disco pub bands?
BassBunny replied to iconic's topic in General Discussion
Pubs pay £150-200 ish up here. There'sonly 3 of us so you can get a beer out of it, you'd struggle if there was 6 or 7 of you, ie horns, etc. But I'd love to see a couple of soul/funk bands on our local circuit.
Les, Check out North West Bands. http://www.northwestbands.co.uk/ There are a few Soul/Funk bands on there, (including us), and they usually go out of their way to promote their Gigs. There seems to be a bit of change going on in parts of the North West. We have had a lot of pubs contacting us and when I point out that we do Funk/Soul/Tamla and they usually have Rock Bands on they want to try something different. If you look on NWB most of the bands have a pretty similar set-list and the punters are fed up with the same old same old. I've just joined a JazzFunk band as well, (think Mezzoforte, Spyro Gyra, Meters etc.). There are probably about 6 venues in the NW we can ply our trade, but what the hell, great music to play. -
No problem, i got one from the states the other week, useful piece of kit! Good luck with the sale.
It is a great compressor and I love the idea of having a DI out in case of emergencies, but it ain't getting used since I bought the Rebelhead.
