SANDBERG BASIC 5 Something has taken my eye and applying the "one out before one in rule", am seeing if there is any interest in my Sandberg Basic 5 It is in good condition, finished in Blueburst, and with a maple fingerboard. The odd "ding" as this really a players bass. it was recently set up by Steve Robinson and a new set of Elites fitted. It is the version with the Noll 3-band pre-amp, (Cut/Boost on Bass/Middle/Treble), and has a Coil Tap switch fitted allowing the Delano MM pick-up to be set either Series/Parallel or Single Coil. The Vol control has "Pull for Passive" option, invaluable if your battery dies mid gig. It has a very defined, clear sound and does the typical Stingray sound really well. Set up with a low action, and the neck is the nicest one I have ever played. The build quality is excellent! Looking for £495 for it. If the Bass I am interested in sells, I will probably withdraw this. It is such a dream to play. Cheers, Stuart

"This bass isn't designed to have a low action"
BassBunny replied to Mokl's topic in General Discussion
As they say "No good turn goes unpunished". The guy is an idiot and you obviously know your stuff. I think the other shop deserves to be named. The funny thing is a couple of friends of mine had a Music Shop in Manchester in the 70's & 80's and I was talking to them about trying to get hold of an old Harmony Guit@r. They both said "Why"? In those days the quality was bad and you either got a good one or a Dog. These day's you can buy far better quality for less money. To say a modern day instrument has deliberately been built to emulate an old one is utter crap.... -
What is the tone knob for on the bass? Doesn't seem to do much at all.
Steve the "tone" control is purely a Bass or is it Treble "cut". As it's passive you can't boost anything.

Like RichardH I was a bit confused with the report. I have a pair of the original Zoot 112's, (and recently added a Zoot 115 Compact), which I believe were the first ones Mike built. Amazingly light, one in each hand setting up, job done. I love them and I know how much care and atttention Mike puts into his products. I saw the PC Cabs when I picked the Compact up and they are fabulous. At the end of the day if it looks right and sounds right, it's right. I have been completely GAS free regarding my Amp set-up for 2 years now and the biggest complement I got was from the Guitarist of the Rock Band I played in who said the Zoot's were "awesome". Not often guitarists hand out compliments.....
Oh - they seem to go for nearly new money on eBay so I'd buy new.
Last pair of RCF 310A's I spotted on e-Bay went for £590 including covers. The going rate now seems nearer the £800 mark for new ones.
Thanks Dave but to be honest I'm dreading it. We did a gig last night in a trendy cocktail establishment in Manchester and we played really well but the audience didn't get it at all.
Damn, I was in Manchester on Thursday night Al. Would have come and seen you if i'd known. Where were you at?

Have a look at Steve robinson's web-site, http://www.manchesterguitartech.co.uk/ There are some examples of the work he has done on scrapes and dings. I can recommend him. He has done som egreat work for me.

Al, Just Go For It. The person who booked you obviously liked what they saw/heard and they know the target audience. If they are having a full on DJ as well, maybe the idea is they want a bit of "Chill Out" time as well. Either that or you're on while they serve the meal/buffet You know what Nick would say.......
Never heard of the other guy, but he's very melodic when he gets going
He is one of the visting members at ICMP and has a regular Bass Technique column in Bass Guitar Magazine. He played BassDay in Manchester last year and is an awesome player.
