1. Couple of questions about the Owen Gremlin.... Is it true bypass? Looks like it's quite big, is it about the size of an Ashdown pedal? Can't find any sound clips to get an idea of tone..... but there are quite a few positive reviews....(Any comparison of sound you could throw my way?) wait!.... that's three questions!
2. The mod for the badder monkey can be done by sfx at a total cost of £67 (inclusive of the price of a bad monkey!) & the mod looks like a really pro & usable good job.... A stock monkey can be as little as £36 (....although there is one for sale on BC for £32) http://www.sfxsound....e.asp?page=badm The mod sounds tempting.... The JHS Low drive comes in at around £150 inc postage from USA (on ebay).... unless someone knows of a UK source? Very little info or useful demos for the cheap & cheerful Biyang OD-10 Mad Driver... anyone ever tried one? The baddy 1 shoe heartbreaker does some nice things (...as far as you can tell from the inadequacies of YouTube research) Not so easy to get hold of though. I like what I hear of the demo of the Ashdown James LoMenzo Hyperdrive from above... but shame about the massive hoof print! unfortunately, that probably rules it out for me... Not heard anyone shouting about Boss etc.... any input from users? Others that sound worthy of investigation are the Wounded paw black sheep, Xotic BB bass preamp & the zeibek Geminidrive Just discovered that Digitech do a dedicated Digitech Bass driver overdrive/distortion too!... for £63.00... Also quite like the classic Ibanez Ts9b Tube Screamer Overdrive but it's also pricey at £129.... I'm sure there are zillions of others ranging from stock to extreme boutique with exotic paintwork done by a 5 year old & colourful garishly clashing knobs, out there! & like someone mentioned, it's all a very personal thing as to what works for each of us.... But any further input of peoples experiences gratefully received...
3. Roqsolid all the way!...
4. The more I look at this demo of the JHS Low drive, the more I wanna try one!.... it's got something sexy going on!.... I'm getting a boner!
5.
I'm using an Ashdown James LoMenzo Hyperdrive at the mo and am liking it a lot. It's very versatile will go from bluesy grit to full on meltdown but it is (like all Ashdown pedals) a bit on the large side. Only around £50 though.

It's not small, but it's dead quiet and the best bass overdrive/distortion pedal I owned by a mile and I owned quite a few. If I had more space on my pedal board I would have two of them. One for subtle OD and another one for that Entwistle grind. I couldn't live without it:
Sounds pretty cool on that demo.... Shame it's such a hoofing great slab of a thing!.... would have to lose a couple to fit it on!.... hmmmm, food for thought though...
6.
The Bad Monkey does lose a bit of bottom end, though how much that's going to bother you will depend on exactly how much deep bass you need. The Badder Monkey or SFX's mod will suit if it's likely to be a problem. It doesn't do fuzz though. Sadly there's no simple one-stop overdrive pedal that will suit everyone. Loads of pedals go from mild drive to fuzz, but whether the tone and character of the pedal suits is down to individual taste. Finding the one that works for you is down to trial and error, and for every recommendation of sonic nirvana someone else will say it's rubbish.
hmmm... interesting, thanks for that... I have a Colorsound bass fuzz for the full on fuzz end, so maybe not such a prob.... how much is that mod likely to cost?
7.
Is the Bad Monkey any good for bass? No loss of bottom end? I've got one (for guitar) never tried it with the basses. The Ibanez PD7 I do use live isn't that great to be honest.
Actually, I have an Ibanez PD7 & I like what it does, a lot of variety etc.. & a neat box especially with the recessing knobs! ...but The problem I have is... it is soo noisey when on my big board with 8 other pedals... Something on there doesn't agree with it... & I need something more true bypass & quiet for that set up. I have a smaller 4 pedal board for different situations... It'll hopefully live there happily in the future... With the Bad Monkey, I've heard it is easy to dial any bottom end loss back with the low eq knob....
8. Recently, I find that I need a new Overdrive pedal!... (...NEED! I tell you!) I want something versatile ... that can go from almost clean boost to almost full on fuzz.. I'm really impressed with what I hear on you tube of the JHS Low drive... but it's pricey at roughly £126 + postage. I don't really have a great deal to spend on it at the moment.... So that is a consideration.. Anyone had any experience of the Biyang OD-10 Mad Driver Overdrive? Seems the Digitech Bad Monkey has many fans & is also pretty affordable.... any opinions or comparisons of these two?
9. Is this still available?
10. Haven't posted here for yonks...... so, last weekend...
11. If this hasn't sold already, I may be interested............ please let me know,
12. hmmmm.... bassists & shoes .... or is it possible? ..... shoes that are basses!? Google google.......... blimey!
13.
Did you ever play in Bristol? It all sounds very familiar.
... yes indeed!... A convention at one of the big hotels (the Marriot, I think) & that pic is from Ashton Court Festie... probably more that would come out under hypnosis...
14.
Are they still going and do they need a bassist/guitarist/trianglist/banjoist/kazooist? That would be the best gig ever..... :) :)
Well.... Paramount would only grant us a licence to play at Trek conventions if we paid them £10,000!... & threatened to sue us if we continued to do so without their licence!... So it ended... Jon Dalton, the main man behind the whole idea, went on to be a great Jazz guitarist... I donned the 70's pantomime gear of the previous photo!....
15.
That is the coolest thing ever, and I must persuade someone to let me do it....
... Hmmm... Well, it was a full 'Star Trek' band called 'the Crew' ..We did funky/jazzy versions of all the Trek themes plus many Sci-Fi TV & film tunes... Played a bunch of conventions (...some of the weirdest gigs I've ever done!) ... Did several TV appearances, including the Big Breakfast & MTV's Hanging Out... & it was a great gig in some ways.... but not what I was really wanting to do at the time!...
16. Well, I confess.... I've been a proper Ho in the past!...... ...& sadly it doesn't end there!................ There is more!.............. a lot more!... But I'm not prepared to go public!
17.
One should always stand on the side that allows you smack your drummer in the face with your headstock without having to turn your back on the audience.

lol.....if only there was a 'LIKE' button!
18. is that Newbury near Coleford?... Sounds interesting..... more info, please!
19. Defo one of my all time favourite albums!
20.
I'd like to hear more about the effects of this when you try it, if possible? I'm considering getting one or two of these myself because of their size and weight and if this makes a big difference i'll look into doing it myself. Liam
Will try to sort this as soon as I can.... My engineer friend is also the main man for a large PA company, Very busy guy... away a lot.. Not being so 'sciencey' as him, I want him to supervise (...& he has access to materials to do the job, for free!) I seem to remember from all the talk about this on Bass Talk, Anyone who did add batting & or bracing reported that it ALWAYS improved the sound of the cabs... so I am hopeful that I will be very happy with the result....
21. Thought I'd paste my reply to your PM earlier obbm... Didn't notice this thread of yours!... I bought 2 GK MBE 2x10's about 6 months ago.... For the price, they are definitely great value. There is no doubt of that. Am I happy?.... They tick a lot of boxes in a variety of gigging situations... Punchy, good height for audibility when stacked, Soo lightweight! For me, they work best with my GK RB1001 head...makes them more meaty sounding.. The Genz Benz Neo-Pak head, I also have, gives a more precise but a bit of a 'diet' tone... Which doesn't suit my live needs as well. I do sometimes have an issue with what feels like a frequency from the boxes... a slight boom that is not controllable with EQ... this might be in my head after reading the many batting/bracing verses none arguments about these particular cabs... I have discussed the pros & cons of them with an engineer friend of mine ... He suggests that we experiment with adding batting, which I think I will try.... My preference for overall tone is my Aguilar GS112's.... when comparing gig to gig the two rigs, the Aggies are just warmer & sweeter... If Aguilar ever make neo 10's, in a price range that wasn't wallet crippling, I'd be wagging my tail! The GK MBE's are good.... I have a bass playing mate who is really happy with his combo version... So it is all very subjective, as usual! I'll experiment with them some more... I think the batting might make the difference for me, lets see....
22. I have one of these.... I really like it! so versatile. With a bit of tweaking some great dirt & I use it a lot as a clean eq-ed boost too... The Tonelock feature is a great idea. it can tend to be a bit noisy, especially with the attack switch engaged.... but I wouldn't part with it....
23. I know I've posted in here before.... but going back even further in the cobwebbed darkest corners of my childhood... I remember thinking the whumping great bass on 'Meet me on the corner' by Lindisfarne really grabbed me.... forcing me to mime it with a tennis racket!... Never been able to hold down a 'proper job' since! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c-gw_ljnF-M
24. Vintage Trouble - Run outta you... Gunna be seeing them later this year at the Fleece in Brissle, should be cool! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=scpK0HhHokg
