2.
Have you had High Rise play there? Or was it just some kids from Kingston College? The bassist in HighRise is my sister's boyfriend, and I attended some gigs of the Kingston college students a while ago at the Grey Horse.
I've just got a gig at the Grey Horse. I have no association with them other than that we play there every few months. I'm just trying to fill the place of the original support to us who had to pull out. It's a long time since any of the Jetsonics were students.....
3. Now I'm back from holiday I'd better have a look at this. Slot is still available if anyone is up for it?
4. Finally recorded today. 4 tracks. Two first takes and two second takes . Spent the rest of the session 'producing' the guitarist. Just vocals and mixing left to do. Worth waiting for My Lyon's genius with the faders. Great days work.
5.
You don't happen to play for a young blonde girl in an acoustic trio with a session drummer do you Low End Bee?
My wife doesn't let me play with young blondes any more Not me. Never knowingly gone acoustic.
6.
Thanks for the compliment Would really have enjoyed playing that gig. Might well pop up to be part of the audience.
I'm sure we could do another one in the future. As for Nottingham? The farthest North we've played so far is Camden....
7. Just checked the fixture list. Oldham away. Been once. That was enough. I mght come for a cup of tea and a chat. The thought of all this bass equipment and chops going on is freaking me out a little though! I'm a 'bash' virgin.
8.
Oh Jeez, I love playing the Grey Horse and we can normally bring a dozen or more people, so long as we aren't on stupidly early, but our guitarist is away for paternity leave at that time
And having listened to your band you would have been perfect!
9. Alain Caron - Humble genius.
10. The band we had pencilled in to play with us on 1st October at the Grey Horse, Kingston can't make it now. Any local original bands who'd be in or complement our musical ball park (power pop/rock trio) interested? Would need to be able to bring a few paying punters. Not expecting a Mongol Hoard but not just 2 mates who sneak in for free either. I have a few contacts to pursue but I thought I'd offer it out here as well.
11. 100% plectrum even on the dubby stuff. Just works for me that way.
12. I still get misty eyed over my black Marathon. My first proper bass. I have some bits from an abused cherry © one I had back in the day (minus broken neck) that will live again one day. I actually like the look of them.
13. Good call on Westlife I'm thinking the originals bands not getting paid in pub gigs is often a mental block on the part of bands themselves. We've done a fair few pub gigs recently. We've approached the landlords and told them we'll put on a good show and bring people. We've always got paid the same rate as the covers bands who play there. Other pubs have heard about us and have contacted us to play too but we're having a break from it for a bit. Although the money is very handy for recording. etc. we find the double set, no stage, bring your own everything a bit much. I'm happier doing a 40 minute set in a venue where we don't have to lug lights and PA. Although it's rarely (though not always happily) as lucrative. The £100 plus 10% sounds like peed off landlords paying bands who don't bring anyone in. They'll either find bands to make it work or have to ditch it and go back to a guarantee I guess.
14. Clarky needs this. If I didn't have two already......
15. I can't face this boring work on my desk so I'll bore you all instead. The Jetsonics did our first inner London gig on Friday. We played the Fiddler's Elbow in Camden. We were on first (8.30) of four bands. We were offered last on/headline as an alternative but we knew if we wanted anyone to come and see us they'd want to get the train back and wouldn't hang around until 11pm. We were asked to get there at 6pm for the last soundcheck. We turned up at 6.30 and were first there. We were also told it was now three bands as one had pulled out. The venue was sprinkled with some slightly intimidating looking carreer lager drinkers who'd had a lovely day by the look of it. We decided to go off and get something to eat while we waited for the other bands to turn up. I got a hummus wrap that exploded all over my gig shirt. So I went to the market and bought the nearest t shirt to a plain black one I could find. I was going to get one in PVC covered in spikes but they didn't have it in XL. Eventually most of the headline jazz funk band turned up and started playing for their own amusement and show off their 'chops' for the best part of an hour before they decided to all play a tune together and actually play a song so the sound man could try and sort them out. I never want to hear a sax again. Middle band then turned up and did a quick, proper check and sounded good. We then had about 3 minutes to do our soundcheck. It was just about OK and that's the way it goes when you're bottom of the bill I guess. We played a 40 minute set full of our liveliest songs to a fair few of our crew who had turned up. The sound bloke was struggling with my bass DI for some reason and there was a nasty buzz on the bass signal every now and then that put me off my stroke a couple of times. The joy of almost zero soundcheck. Plus I had a blister on my left ringer from last nights rehearsal to play through. Fluffed a couple of times but nothing major. Saying all that I really enjoyed it and we put on a great show and were very well received. The new songs went down well too. We stayed around for the middle band who were obviously big Weezer fans. I enjoyed them. Their originals were actually better than the Weezer covers they did. I then had a chat with Dan who runs the place. He really liked us and wants us back on and will put us on with bands that are more up our street. We got paid too which was nice. We didn't stay around for the jazz funk band. I'd had enough at the sound check. Nice review here.. Retroman Review
16. No hat! First hatless gig in forever. Made up for it with stupid shades though.
17. Love it. Apart from the clear control plate. Off down the shops for some Humbrol tins now.
18. We'll play sonmething that's been dropped from the set for a venue soundcheck. Don't want to spoil it for the inevitable 3 odd people who are in early and wandering about aimlessly for some obscure reason. For pubs we'll bash out a verse and a chorus of the first song for levels about 5 minutes before we start.
19. It all went rather well. They want us back and we got a review. Retroman review
20. Last call for tonight. 45 minutes of blistering power pop on stage 8.30 sharp!
21. The calendar seems to be instant now. Huzzah!
22. Don't like them at all. Blocks, like gold hardware, have no place on a Precision for me.
23. I run mine at 8ohms through an 8ohm 200w TC cab at rehearsals. No problems at all.
