45-105 are fine for me. Lighter gauges I find too 'flappy' and heavier gauges I don't fell any benefit from. I must therefore be Mummy bear.

I've no problem with the phsical side of gigging. The memory is another thing. Adding the chord sequences to set lists is a must for me. I write the bleeding things and I still can't remember them.

Your Views on Modding Basses, COSMETICALLY
Low End Bee replied to gothpugs's topic in General Discussion

I love this paintjob. It gets me very emulsional. -
It's a different colour at each end. That's at least twenty quids worth of cool.

I'm 48 next month. Back in bands 5 years go after about 20 years gap. The current band's been going for coming up to two years. We've just recorded our second EP, been on the radio a few times. I'm writing songs and lyrics, playing reasonable sized and paid gigs, touring Germany next year, etc. The world's yer lobster. I aim to be doing this until I croak.

What can I use to make my sound "better"?
Low End Bee replied to Herbie The Rad Dorklift's topic in Effects
Turning up the volume knob always works for me Seriously. Don't overlook this. I've noticed a few bassists agonising over their 'tone' when they're just not playing loud enough for the band mix. -
My Precision (Am Std 2007) has very similar neck dimensions to my Rertrovibe RV4. I don't need any left hand adjustment when swapping between them. I can't get on with Jazz bass necks either. They give me hand ache and I have quite small hands too.

Can we all slag this amp off so I can get one on the cheap please. Ta.

Did the final vocal over dubs last night and a bit of production. I bought the man at the desk his favourite biscuits to ensure the bass being high in the mix. He was on great form last night Asked several near impossible things and the answer was always yes. It's funny that it seems to be harder work for us to record 'rough and edgy' than 'smooth and poppy' if we want it to sound authentic. Todays the day the mixing pixies start to do their magic. EP should be out before the end of September.

Blunder through until I pick it up again watching the guitarists left hand for clues. All the time thinking "You wrote the ****ing thing how can you not remember how the ****er goes?"

What's the most you would spend on a bass???
Low End Bee replied to Schnozzalee's topic in Bass Guitars
I spent £680 on my new Precision when the exchange rate was in our favour a few years ago. I agonised like anything over spending £250 on my Retrovibe last year! I'd say about £700 is my top end. I could easily get something that would be well made, playable and would suit my needs for that. I like expensive and old basses but don't really have any desire to own them. If the lottery numbers came up it would probably be a different story. -
To answer the above. We treat gigs professionally. The guitarist and drummer hardly drink at all and I will restrain myself if we've got shows to do. I'm a convivial drinker anyway. Hamburg looks like it should be on the list. We've got an ex St Pauli player at the football club I support and supporters links are beginning to be established! We'll be playing 100% original material. It's power pop/garage rock so it's not 'difficult' music for people who like rock n roll. We've good songs and put on a damn fine energetic live show too. It's just not very fashionable in the UK . Particularly as we're all a bit past 25. We're looking to try and tie up with a promoter on some kind of basis if we can. We probably have enough in the band kitty from gigs and CD/download sales to cover costs. It would be nice to earn some of those back while while we're over though. Excellent replies all. Keep them coming.

Venues, promoters and such like. Hit me up people. Help me make it happen. <determinedsmiley>

No firm idea where we're going to play just yet. But We have decided it will happen and with the three of us that means it will. I see your point about the big cities MM. Driving and regulations will not be an issue. One of the band is very, very clued up on all this. Next stage of the plan is meeting up with an old friend who does regular European mini tours with his old punk band to get agents and venue details. Any help from anyone will be greatfully received. If rock n roll fame and fortune aren't forthcoming at least there's always adventure and the craic.

Our last mixed recording was done when I was away on holiday. I noticed a lot of the clank, treble and raspy overdrive had been smoothed over and fattened up a bit. It was perfectly OK within the context of the songs but I would rather have kept a bit more of the sound as it was when it went to the desk. I shall be firmly stating my case prior to mixing of our new stuff this week. As my guitarist said when I mentioned it to him "They all want to tame the bass". Luckily he's on my side.
This is all very well, but what if the bass is not the right colour Thats more of the problem I have these days
There are better basses I'm sure but I like everything about my precision apart from the colour. It's been an uneasy relationship with sunburst for 4 years now. I may just bite the bullet and respray one day.
My hot tip: be very sceptical of anyone who says they are fluent in German.
I've heard him conversing to Germans and he did his degree in the language so I'm fairly confident. Not a problem anyway as I am fluent in pointing and talking very loudly in patronising English should he fail.

I stick my RS210 on top of my RS112 with no problems. Only got an Orange Terror to cope with on the top though.
Was considering getting a couple of RS212 cabs and wanted to stack them end on end. Thing is the cabs themselves look quite narrow and I have visions of them toppling over if given a bit of a knock. I've got my amp, compressor and tuner in a rack mount that I was planning on sitting on top so this may well make it quite top heavy. Do they cabs lock into to each other properly or do they simply sit on top of each other ? Ta folks.
They just sit on each other. The 12's are a lot deeper than the 10's and more stable but I think you'd be pushing the stability envelope with a big old rack unit on top. You could strap the handles to each other with a bungy or something to make it more stable.
Drink lots of beers and when waiting for the ferry, don't challenge the England female netball team to a game of netball or football like we did as you will lose very very badly
Some people would pay to be humiliated by a netball team

The Jetsonics have decided to do 3 or 4 gigs in 5 days in Germany in April 2012. Our guitarist is fluent in German so it makes sense to go there. I have been advised a lot of the 'Irish pubs' in Germany have in house PA's and are up for a bit of noisy rock n roll and to maybe try and get booked in them rather than specific music venues. We'll be going on the ferry and don't want to drive stupid distances between shows. I thought of maybe going to the smaller cities/large towns and be bigger fish in a smaller pond. We'll be hiring some kind of van and probably taking our part time sound man/road manager who also speaks German along for the ride making it 4 of us travelling. Any hot tips?
