1. The rig sounded great on Saturday HJ. Thanks for the loan. My comments on the revalve are that there is still grit available but it's more defined and further around the dial. You really notice much more of a difference in the sound/tone from fingers to pick, different basses, etc. Works a treat with the Barefaced stack. Witout PA support I could hear the bass clearly from a fair old distance away. Would I do the switch? Maybe not because I like the cheap valve sound and I don't need or desire versatility. If you want to sound less one dimensional than I do go for it.
2. I use an RS210 plus an RS112 with an Orange Terror. They don't sound hi-fi in the slightest. Tweeter off of course. I'm happy with the mix.
3. Liked the first track a lot. Very Spizz.
4. Out of 10 Bass 5, Mid 2, Treble 6 As I use an Orange Terror Bass this isn't all that much different from leaving them flat. Gain is the most useful knob. 4 for the Retrovibe 6 for the Precision. I don't like the mid thing. Glad I play in a trio.
5.
I know a few of us play the Grey Horse in Kingston from time to time. Last week there were two basschatters on the same night
We're there 1st October too. No takers for the Len Price 3? Don't know what you're missing.
6.
Victory from the jaws of defeat! Looks like we're going to be back on the 27th May...
Marvellous!
7. Good stuff. I'm on the case with Bob the Builder. Love to give the Jetsonics a spin once Abbey Road Lite is complete. Stupid cheap work keyboard
8. Rock the place up. Catch you next time.
9. I love my RS210. Great cab. I'd love to have this one and have two but the bank manager would cut my knackers off.
10. Doesn't bother me unless it's excessive.
11. Bugger. Just seen this. Can you arrange your next Capital city outing when it's not my wedding anniversary? I can't afford another divorce!
12. The amount of movement is dictated by the amount of room I get. It is entertainment. If I wanted to stand still and bore peoples socks off I'd play jazz
13. Quite often I feel like going to see a band and I can't rustle up anybody else to go. Especially on school nights. So more often than not I don't bother. I like company at gigs. Why not post the gigs we intend going to in the near future and BC'ers can meet up (and stalk the performing bass players gear too) if they fancy it? BC'ers in other areas can start their own regional threads too. Next up for me is the Len Price 3 at the Bull and Gate Kentish Town Friday 27th May. I'll be with a small friendly mid life crisis crew of music lovers. You're welcome to tag along. They're an amazing live band.
14.
I'll try to make it, but I have a gig the next day ... By the way, has Sam shrunk?
No. He's kneeling.
15. Where's that old thread about not being a bass player unless you use a valve SVT through two 8x10s for a pub gig.....
16.
Oh what I was going to ask is I have 2 X 200W cabs would using them be a problem?
I use it through one 200w cab at rehearsals. Could probably gig with that too. Should be fine.
17. Good work HJ. Apart from "1. No one ever gets to turn the knobs above "nine o'clock" because the amp is so damned loud and the valves have so much gain." Apart from me. 2pm on the precision and 11am on the Retrovibe...... Are there AX7's with more gain?
18. I played some council backed festival thing with my punk band back in 1980 at Talacre park in Kentish Town. Lots of people there and we supported 23 Skidoo. We played in some large garage like building with some shutters that opened on to the park. We were fairly in your face and had two singers who were taunting the boys in blue as it was a fairly edgy SPG and riots era. The power was turned off first. Then the crowd demanded it go back on again. Then the old bill wound the shutters down as we were playing and the two nutter singers propped them open with rapidly buckling mic stands. The shutters eventually came down and we got a bit of a slapping from the cops. They could do that in those days. Meanwhile my girlfriend went AWOL and ended up doing the dirty on me with the top of the bill bands guitarist that night. All my money was nicked from my jacket backstage and I got caught bunking the fare on the tube on the way home. Happy days.
19. I didn't even learn all the stuff on my last album. Let alone anyone elses. Saying that I could probably busk it for Never Mind The Bollocks.
20.
Maybe this should be another thread called "Do i have to like my fellow band members?" - I am with mcnach though. I don't believe you have to love your fellow musos to be in a good band. In fact, the better the musos that i get to play with the more socially inept and strange they seem to be. But thats not important. I don't want to sleep with them and already have a nice group of friends outside of the band thing.
I'd never met my band members before it's formation. However I could never be in a band with people who I couldn't become friends with though. It would seem like work. This is probably why we had a boardroom coup and overthrew the previous chairman.
21. Nice to read. Have a blast.
22. My two bobs worth. Join up. Maybe one or two of the band are nice chaps. Maybe you can pinch them and start a new band if it all goes square shaped........
23.
Also why is the neck joint/heel so far out from the body? There's plenty of room to move the heel further along the neck for better upper fret access without compromising the strength of the neck joint.
It's probably for people like me who rarely go past the double dots so aren't bothered.
