1.
Sounds great Ad, would be a fab line-up - my only word of caution is that, although I'm happy to play for beer money, Rattlin Bone's band leader is very keen on guaranteed paying gigs as we have a lot of travel expenses to cover (given that band are from all over the UK) The 12 Bar was a bit of an anomaly as we only took £60-odd home between the 12 of us (fortunately the Scottish guitarist didn't come)! We did it more for exposure and as a warm-up ahead of the much bigger gig next month (500+ people) in Brixton But yeah sounds like a brilliant idea, let us know when you have a venue/date in mind. Much appreciated mate, Clarky
Aren't we all
2.
Except that I'd expect to be on someone's guest list, of course.
It's wives, girlfriends and civil partners only big boy.
3. Hope it went well. I'd be up for shared London gigs too. Rattlin Bone + Dick Venom & the Terrortones + the Jetsonics would be a top night out I reckon. If you're all up for it and if I have a date to work to I'll try and arrange something. In my experience most promoters are just venue bookers and I can do that. I have a few venues and contacts in mind that would be good.
4.
Has anyone got their hands on the legendary Happy Jack Bb Shocker tapes yet?
Too late. It's been 'filed'.
5.
I'll come along if you play Sweet Child of Mine and Moondance
In Bb of course...
6. OK. It's the first gig of the Jetsonics hit the boozers campaign as outlined in 'the originals band in pubs thread' on Friday. We're launching our debut 4 track EP too and will of course have copies for sale
7.
It was mentioned on BBC News24!
"Bb horror in West 4" hundreds feared confused by inappropriate key fiasco. "I was so upset I nearly spilt my barley wine. Hanging's too good for 'em I say. I thought they were playing jazz the dirty bas...." Distressed eye witness Mrs Evadne Bigot of 23 Gadaffi Towers, Acton.
8.
Intro to Why Did You Do It, the whole band came in - as expected - on the C except the bass, which for some inexplicable reason decided to play the song in Bb. It got worse. The bass didn't realise that it was wrong, and assumed that someone else had screwed it up, so it remained on the Bb for the next two bars while looking around in consternation. Luckily, this was all the bass doing it by itself, so when I realised that my bass had lost the plot I quickly took it off auto-pilot and moved up two frets. I don't think anyone noticed. Apart from the lead guitarist. And the slide guitarist. And even, God help me, the drummer.
I only noticed a bit. Don't worry it was a level 1 mistake as we call it in my band. Level 1 - Only noticeable by the band, muso's in attendance and maybe sober audience members who really know the song well. Doesn't detract from the show. Level 2 - Noticeable by all but the drunkest present. Still not enough to stop the song and you should all be able to get back together and finish it. Level 3 - Really quite bad but you are able to finish the song somehow and move manfully on with the set. Level 4 - So painfully wrong you there is no other option than to stop and start again. Luckily we haven't had a level 4 and only one level 3. The drummer played the intro and song at half speed and we decided to do a 'stoner' version as it was too late to stop. He's never done it again. Luckily I have only ever witnessed other bands level 4's so far. Touch wood.....
9. Played a blinder HJ. Great atmosphere. You're perfect for this venue.
10. They look like Routemaster ashstrays. Thank god I'm a plectrum jockey.
11. I hear what your saying. I think the streams were crossed on the flux capacitor myself though.
12. I do miss the old Garageband site. Where can you put up tunes these days and have great comments like... "More cliched than the Quo" "A poor mans Knack" "Not so good. What is this saying to my ear?" I used to love all that.
13.
A large proportion of my BC viewing is done at work where I cannot reasonably listen to sound clips and I bet that is true of many.
Me too. I'm rarely on BC in the evenings as I'm not getting paid for it. I'll listen and comment on songs that have been put up if I like them and/or can offer constructive criticism. I don't watch or listen to 'technique clips' as I don't really have ay interest in hearing a solo bass being played outside the context of a song to be honest.
14.
??? Mayhem? Maven? Moorhen?
He's been using my keyboard.
15. Mutes? Those trumpet type things. Damn work keyboard. It was of course minutes.
16. I saw Tony Reeves the founder member bass player of Colosseum playing an acoustic gig with my mate JC on Friday. He was amazing on the double bass (especially when he put it through an envelope filter). I'm also going to see Mark Clark playing double bass at a gig this Friday. How coincidental is that? No cut and paste has been involved in this message......
17.
... In trio situations where the guitarist is soloing, I usually find it best to play simple and melodic lines in the mid range of the bass guitar. This keeps all the parts really well glued together. Think Paul McCartney / Jack Bruce / Geddy Lee. Jennifer
I tend to do this (but without thinking of those three ) and it works well on filling out the sound without getting in the way. I think a baritone playing chords mwould have the opposite effect. I can see an 8 string working though.
18. These are great sounding and playing basses with loads of potential. I'm kidding myself that mine's a backup but I'm hardly playing my Precision these days.
19. Yep discipline is important. Our drummer wouldn't tolerate anything less. Discuss band matters and news during drum and gear set up. Warm up with old song. Work on new material. Half Time: Tea break and a critique. Work on new material. Warm down with a couple of old ones. Discuss band matters during drum and gear break down. If we've got a gig coming up we will blat through the set after half time instead. It's more organised than my job!
20. Bought some lyrics along to the last three rehearsals. Three new songs written. I wish is was always like this even though one of them is now in the dustbin.
21.
If you do have a disability we will do our best to give you a fair shot, Low End Bee. What special needs do you have?
Fair play. Nicely returned Venue must provide unlimited London Pride, a chicken dhansak and be within walking distance of Griffin Park. Apart from that I'm not fussy. Good luck finding your bassist.
22. Ideally someone hard of hearing?
23. 1963. Some wear and non original parts. Currently missing somewhere in London.
