1. Depends on the venue. Depends on the gig. We'll do free ones if there's something to be gained in exposure or experience by doing them or they're for charity. We'll gamble on a door take at paying venues and normally come out pretty OK. Just moving into the pub market and from what others have said here we're getting the thick end of the average which is nice for a 100% originals band. We've done a few gigs on trust by saying pay us what you think we're worth when we've finished. Only one place took the proverbial and we won't be back there.
2. A slightly blurry jpeg of the cover... Volume two will be based on an iconic brown sauce.
3. The Eastwood hasn't got any of the cool of the Magnum. Looks like a horrid parts bin lash up compare to the real one.
4. 1mm Dunlop big blue triangles. I've tried shed loads of different picks. I'm a full time picker.
5. Landlord rang me tonight. He had great feedback for the gig and we're sorting out some more dates. These will be at an increased rate too. Marvellous.
6. I had the Orange Terror at 1.5 out of 10 on the volume control on Friday night. The Guitarist turned down a lot too. Sounded great and we're a rock band. Don't be afraid to cut the volume. It's possible you may have one guitarist too many. This was a problem in the last band. Rhythm bloke chugging away in the low mid zone adding absolutely nothing except a kind of aural stodgy soup.
7.
....distorting a bass is a hanging offence but i am an old fart that doesn't like heavy metal. Live and let live and all that.
As soon as you plug it in you distort the signal surely?
8. Fuzz on two songs because it sounds nice. Bass Synth on an intro and outro of another for the same reason. That's it. If someone can produce a technique compensator pedal I'll have one
9.
sounds a roaring success, Adam. Shame it clashed with our gig, otherwise I would have been there. BTW my lot are up for triple header with BigRedX's lot and the Jetsonics
I'll work on that. Speak to you soon.
10.
If you can play accordion or fiddle, you're in!
I know an amazing accordian player (really) and I've been known to have the odd fiddle.......
11. Sounds bloody marvellous Clarky. I think I may brush up my French Horn and join the band
12. Well we did it. Happy Jack and his drummer Paul were there so I have proof. Played the 6 Bells in Brentford which is a smallish Fullers pub that has just been refurbished rather nicely with no hint of 'theme'. We played two 45 minute sets of 100% original ( plagiarism aside) material. Just before we went on at about 9.30 about a dozen people walked out which concerned the bar staff a little. However a steady stream turned up while we were playing and it was packed for the second set. We played really well. Without a stage that we are used to we didn't get to gad about like usual. This meant we concentrated a bit more on the playing side and I actually enjoyed that a lot. Really nice to have no barrier between us and the audience. We bought a few of our regulars but also had a lot of walk up. Some people on their way to other pubs had a window lick and then came in and stayed which was great. We sold over 30 of the new CD EP's and had a little queue of people who wanted it signed at the end. A landlord who has just taken over another pub within walking distance came and asked for our contact details so he could book us and two punters who go to a lot of live music in the area asked for our contact details so they could get their locals to book us. I'm really chuffed. A huge success all in all. PS Most popular song of the night that we had to play again in the encore was 'On Your Case'. This was the first time we have played it live. It's a song that our dearly departed Old Git gave me a couple of lyric lines for back at the end of last summer to get me started when I was having a writers block. It's a cracking tune and I'm so glad it went down well. I know he would have been pleased about that.
13. D7sus4 Always useful
14. No fair

16.
What's the balance like on these Rick copies? Are they neck heavy with such a lightweight wood body (especially the basswood ones)?
The balance is fine on mine.
17.
Presumably the teaspoons are like those finger extension things Tony Levin used to have on and the vole is a string dampner?
Perish the thought. Two teaspoons and some gaffa tape make for a perfect set of vole tongs.
18. Use a small vole and teaspoons to play the bass as long as it works for the song.
19. It looks like Dale Winton.
20.
Sorry Ad, can't be there after all - as will be joining a Rattlin Bone mini-tour of Portugal http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=127448
No bloody commitment some people. The Middlesex Riviera not good enough
21. What goes on tour..... I'm envious.
22.
there was a blurb in the papers over here about it. took me a second to realize it was HappyJack "MPs call for West London investigation" we've all been there. our little pop combo is good for at least one Level 1 clam per member per gig. one never knows when, where or how, but we all know it's coming. we've hit a few Level 2s and 3s, but never a Level 4. the train might be tipped and riding on one rail but we keep going. we have a particular habit of royally screwing up one of the singers tunes. almost every time. last gig we played it right. and the singer screwed up the second verse.
Does this mean my Level 1-4 cock up measurement scale is now an industry standard. Excellent.
23. Good stuff. After Friday's gig I'll put my cunning plan head on.
24.
It's great with most cabs.. don't go near TC or simular cabs. It doesn't work, also I've never quiet got on with TC..
Guess what cabs I use with my OTB
