I'm closest to No 1 as well 🙄

Me too Wait a minute, you've got a P? Davo

Obvs - someone musta whizzed him/her off in the first place! Davo

I must be simple, but moving away from 4ths will "do my head in". All my fluidity will go out of the window. Why choose a tuning with a 4th, 5th, 4th, 5th? are you playing chords or a lot of double stops with open strings? Peace Davo

You are most welcome. Maybe I can tempt you with a sonic blue 1966 Precision? Davo
-
Totally brilliant. I wonder what triggered the original musicians' classified ad? Davo

If you're asked to play a Fender, they mean a Precision. Davo
-
Honestly, just borrow a Precision from a mate. They'll be chuffed. I'll lend you one. Where do you live? Peace Davo

Plastic control knobs will be banned next ... Davo

Tort for PM. Don't like black basses so my view on that is irrelevant. The only exception is all black (body and scratchplate) with maple neck. That's the only time I like black basses. Peace Davo

Any exercise that stops you getting in a rut is worthwhile. Whilst practising a normal 4/4 drum beat try playing LH quiet, then RH quiet, then RH quiet and mix it up. Davo

How far does your bass geekery go?
Davo-London replied to Barking Spiders's topic in General Discussion
I have a '64P - so every time I pick it up I remember the feeling I got when I first played it and the wonderful mojo transforms me to another world. Then I realise I should be in a band and my time would be better spent trying to find a band to play in : (. I also play drums and get called to play drums more than bass, which is somewhat irritating (but I'm still grateful) as I'm a better bass player! So, bass geekery is a long way off. I went through a bass geek phase but I'm over that now. Peace Davo -
I wouldn't take the bass personally. But I would take the songs playlist on my phone so I can really absorb them. Peace Davo

Steve Gadd is a monster drummer. EVERYONE should study Steve Gadd. His interview about 50 ways to leave your lover is, however, possibly the worst interview ever! Davo
-
Heresy maybe, but I preferred his Precision/Jazz tone. Admittedly not a lot in it though. It's still Joe Dart. Peace Davo

Andertons masterclass, what to expect?

Take some bass artefact and get him to sign it! Davo -

Recommended me a hard case for a P bass
Davo-London replied to James Nada's topic in General Discussion
I have various bass cases and always grab the lightest case. I don't like hard cases (heavy and requires to be put down flat on stage) and very rarely use one. But sure, if all your gear is ending up in a van with amps and drums then a rigid case is the lowest risk option. I'm saying this in case you buy one, like me, and then never use it! Peace Davo -
There are fantastic resources online. Try: https://www.mikeslessons.com/ https://www.drumeo.com/ These are very popular. But the youtube resources are endless. There are some great books and some so so ones. The best are normally out of print. - Stick Control for the snare drummer - get your snare chops together - Mini-monster book of rock drumming - has examples of 100's of standard grooves - New Breed (Gary Chester) - effing brilliant series of exercises that will last a lifetime helping to coordinate a 3 limb groove, whilst the other limb plays the music rhythm on the stave, Learn to read drum music. There's enough in these three books for a lifetime of b practice. Find some beginner buddies (bass, guitar) and you're off. Cheers Davo (drum n bass)

C'mon guys he is a pro and he has an opinion. We may not agree - fine - but roasting him is not helpful. Peace Davo

Shout out to EBS_freak who suggested a couple of IEMs. I went for ZT ZS10 and I'm bowled over just how good they are and the quality/definition of the various instruments and voices in the mix. The drums, in particular, had a wonderfully full sound - the kick and floor tom were to die for (obvs I was playing them!). An absolute bargain at around £40. Peace Davo

I usually feel cheated when I put flats on a bass. Cheated of the full spectrum of sounds. That's the way I feel. Davo

Rock is finished - it has nothing more to say!
Davo-London replied to Al Krow's topic in General Discussion
Maybe it's rock performed by folk in their 50's and 60's that makes it appear dead. When you know most of the band have a country estate it's hard to take their lyrics/music/angst seriously. Retire like Led Zep did and we wouldn't feel this way. Davo -
Mike Lull bass; Stolen, found, reunited.
Davo-London replied to NancyJohnson's topic in General Discussion
Agreed. Happy ending though due to the sheer stupidity of the thief. Davo -
