That V-bass looks purty but £850. Lordy lordy that's a lot even for a rich bloke like me : )
Anyways, it does what I want which converts a bass signal to midi.
The advice about tracking in the upper registers is a good one - thanks.
The UK distributor of the sonuus G2M say that it is not particularly suitable for bass, but they are bringing out a bass version around Christmas!!!
I think I'll go for that. Thanks.

Hi
As I play e-drums and bass, and like to transfer music loops between the two, I wondered how I would go about recording midi bass lines but using a bass rather than a keyboard.
Does anyone do this?

Lots of negative vibes and plenty of horror stories. I've actually gained from buying and selling vintage gear and I'm always on the lookout for 60's Jazzes. I find Brian in Wunjo's a decent chap. Get chatting to him and develop a rapport. That's my advice otherwise, some of the guys there are idiots that's for sure. Try and avoid them.

I bought a CIJ Jaco fretless from a store in Denmark Street. The individual that I spoke to ordered 2 CIJ Jacos and a MIA Jaco for me to try out. Fantastic service - I preferred the CIJ Jacos. That's worth paying a bit extra for.
I would also say the 80's Japanese Fenders are going to be very collectable, as their MIA counterparts were not as consistent during this period.

"They're great" as a certain tiger would say.

I too have a custom bass, not a Sei but a Cliff Bordwell, and as they say - there's no going back.
It's the comfort, lightness and feel that set's them apart when playing. You can concentrate on making music, which is great.
Nice post

Bridges: don't do it. I did an extensive sound test on www.musicplayer.com on a Fender P with stock and Badass II bridge. Comment was divided but no-one actually thought the BII was better. IMHO there's no point.
Sound. How long have you played? You need to get to know your Jazz. What V/V/T set-up do you use? Try nickel strings, try flats. Explore your bass. It takes years to properly explore what you have.
Counterwise, I agree with ABG comment, how it can open up your playing. Having an ABG in your arsenal is not a bad thing at all.

Well I've watched Linley Marthe (Zawinul's bassist) up close and noticed that with a Jazz he played the volume of the bridge PU full on. The tone control was not adjusted but I assume that was full -on and he adjusted tone by bringing in the neck pu volume when he wanted a more bassy tone and turned it down when he wanted articulation.
That's one way of using V/V/T on any bass.
