  1. I've got to admit I don't understand the banter. I feel left out ...
  2. I'd agree about Cream. Apart from Sunshine of your Love, I find their output quite forgettable. I really don't like Ginger Baker's drumming, which would explain my indifference to Cream. Peace Davo
  3. My old P is my fave bass. Goes to every jam/practice/service/gig. Anderton's should and do know better. Davo
  4. For those who mention the drums, there's nothing stopping you starting right now. I started playing bass at 14. I started drums at 44. I'm going to take up the sax when I'm 74. That's my plan. 30 years is just about right to get to know an instrument. Peace Davo
  5. I struggle to find a band too. Never had any success with the "joinmyband" style of websites ... Davo
  6. Gotta say I agree with Ratman. Davo
  7. This is an excellent piece and thanks for including so much detail. I've kinda dissed Jeff in the past, not his playing as I loved his early work with Bill Bruford, but on the basis of what he had add to the melee of bass teaching and why he was deliberately controversial. Clearly I was wrong. He has much to add. Also most clinics I've experienced have modest impact as the focus is often on their skill. This couldn't be further from the truth. I play a lot at church and have a small fan base. I've never worked out why, but I can only think that they feel a difference when I play and it helps them worship better. I'm not saying this to boast but I'm trying to relate it to bass teaching. Whilst it would be fun to play in a Muse cover band, most bass lines are simple to execute. Maybe Jeff's philosophy is to understand the music and melody first, then the bass playing will follow. Thanks again. Davo
  8. I play drums and don't own a cowbell. Did I do something wrong? Davo
  9. We are bass players after all ... so Foxton deserves some props. Weller; I've never liked the human. I found a song about Foxton's picture on a poster last night in Utube. Enjoy! Peace Davo
  10. Well said Lozz. 3-piece bands are great for bass players! Peace - Davo
  11. True Dave. Weller and Foxton/Bucklers' exceptional work was with the Jam when they were young. At some point in your life I guess you have to accept that and embrace it. I have similarly realised that my career is in decline. I'm enjoying more space for my projects and other activities, whilst holding on to my job for dear life ... Peace Davo
  12. Nor will it compare to the fines that foreign companies receive!
  13. Anyone specialise or have a track record with pre-CBS Fenders? Electronics and fretwork required. I'm Hertfordshire/London. Cheers Davo
  14. Precision or Jazz. Try them both to see which feels best. Try several too.
  15. IEMs are fine but there's nothing like some air behind you. Have you seen Dirty Loops latest videos and their bass players EBS stacks??? OMG
  16. Jamiroquai"s bassist Paul Turner uses vintage P and Js. I've seen him switch in studio sessions. I have no idea if he does this on stage. Davo
  17. Or do you want to go stereo like Chris Squire?? Split the signal and have each amp send to separate speakers. Tasty Davo
  18. Hmm ebay classified does exist in beta form but I cannot get any sense out of it ...
  19. I will Survive is my all time top-of-the-list hate song. Stairway to Heaven even though I love the Zep. I used to play with a guitarist who couldn't help himself but play this every practice. Believe by Cher. Literally anything by Cher could jump into my list. I don't like rap so I could have filled the list with rap songs, but then I don't know any song titles! Peace Davo
  20. Another vote for ZS10. Regards Davo
  21. Good news. I would have applied but a) my German is poor and b) it's a bit of a commute! Where did you advertise for a new drummer? Regards Davo
  22. If I'm playing with a bass amp/cab on stage then I tend to adjust the volume to 80-90% so I have the ability to have a boost when needed without having to go to the amp. If I'm playing in-ears I just go 100% volume as you're not in charge of volume other than your personal mix. Passive basses have pretty low output so 100% makes complete sense to me. Unlike guitar, I've never really noticed any difference between pre-amp vol and master vol. I expect to get slayed but that's my experience. Possibly to do with the modest volumes I play at. Regards Davo
  23. Elvis fan?  Stewblack, if I'm right you're an Elvis Costello fan.  In this case can you explain his receipt of an OBE?  Not just why he got one but also why he accepted it, as I don't believe his "my mum told me to" story for a nanosecond, mainly because of his unfathomable ego.

I normally like to be positive but this bothers me somewhat.

    Cheers

I was a huge Costello fan. Still love his music, but I do feel that he has morphed into something his younger self would have hated. Playing one of those posh picnic type gigs at Hampton Court, sponsored by Waitrose put me right off him. The OBE was only a short hop from there.

Personally I feel he is half what he used to be without Bruce. It was the marriage of his lyrics and BT's bass which moved me.

As to his life choices, I try not to judge. I am not without sin myself

I saw him live about 2-3 years ago.  Just when I thought the gig was over he dismissed his band and played on solo for ages and it felt like a complete ego trip.  People started to leave.  It put me right off him.  His real contribution to music was 40 years ago - it seems odd to me that he would be honoured now, when you consider all the other bands and individuals that made the late 70's and early 80's such a rich time musically.
