  1. Your main issue is that you're looking to Reading Festival to show you new rock music. Look to festivals like Arctangent and 2000 Trees. Once again, for anyone complaining that there's nothing new or different, I promise you that it's because you're not looking hard enough. Reading festival has pretty much always been a pop cross-over festival, which is fine, if there has been rock bands, that act will have had a wider appeal for one reason or another. With regards to Bring Me The Horizon, never been a fan, but go and listen to Count Your Blessings and Suicide Season if you want rockier Bring Me. I also go back to this feeling of if someone accuses a band or artist of 'selling out' or (in the case of rock/metal music) writing lighter music in order to succeed etc, then that person obviously has no real interest or understanding in creating art. If they did, they would understand that someones artistic output changes and evolves over time. Some artists might subscribe to this idea of creating to a formula exclusively to be popular, however I would offer that they are the exception rather than the rule. Si
  2. I don't believe we have any Markbass representatives on the board, but I imagine that it's largely because they've launched the new MB58R CMD 121 combos recently. Further than that, your question might be better levelled at Markbass directly I imagine. Si
  3. Here are my 760FL's on my '71 Precision. Similar silk layout it seems, althpough I can't comment on the tone of each string as they've been on there about 6 years, so they're all dead haha (in a good way of course). Si
  4. Yeah, I’m with you. Not even any checking to the nitro finish?! Beautiful bass though regardless. Si
  5. After loving the album since I was a kid, I've had to finally learn Diamonds On The Souls Of Her Feet for a first dance. Such a banger!

Hey my dad used to play this in the car all the time too! Fantastic album, I watched a great documentary about the making of it recently too (Under African Skies). Loved the Bass + vocals version, I never heard that before.

"I was 8 when this came out and I remember even then tuning into the bass line."

Ouch!  I was 35, but I still loved (and love) the bass line.  That is a great version @Rich, thanks!

The more I listen to this, the more I love the bassline. It's perfect. Bakithi absolutely nailed it... well let's face it, he and his knackered old Washburn bass pretty much own the whole album!

And yeah, thanks guys for making me feel so old... 👴

  6. I would head for a MIJ Precision if you want Fender, or if you have a larger budget, a Pino custom shop, or look out for a (rare) used Moollon. Lakland also make some excellent Precision copies. All depends on the spec you’re after. Si
  7. I appreciate you caring, and I would offer the same advice back to you Si
  8. Almost certainly wouldn't go back to Fender I don't think. Fender would just offer some ridiculous discount to the shop and they'd then sell it as B-stock. Cheaper for Fender to do than pay for it to come back to them and then junk it. Si
  9. Would love to take this off your hands, really interested in trying one, alas just the wrong time. GLWTS, should go quickly I think. Si
  10. Indeed, not saying you should say here (as a mod, I would get 'grumpy'), just giving you some advice Si
  11. I think probably we're done here?! The original poster hasn't been back since the start, and the thread has been reduced to non-bass related (non-sensical?) chat, so will close. Any issues, drop me a PM. Cheers Si
  12. Without knowing what your gear is, I doubt you'll find a buyer for a job-lot. Best to separate it out in my opinion (again, pending what you have). Si
  13. Maybe they weren't aware that it was upgraded. Si
  14. So write your own 🙂 Si
  15. Compounded by the fact that we are, largely, sentimental for the instruments of our youth, and so ‘vintage guitars’ will always be relevant to certain players. It’s not something that is exclusive to boomers (my feeling is that some want it to be), it’s just that they happened to be at the start of the vintage electric guitar boom. Which I’m fine with as a millennial with a love of old basses, vintage double basses require mortgages haha Si
  16. SOOO many people playing and listening to rock (as an umbrella term) at the mo lol, what a weird conclusion to come to. Download attracts around 150,000 people a year, what other ‘mainstream’ genre attracts that to a single festival in the UK?? Electronic music (again, an umbrella term) maybe!? That’s about it. As a millennial who loves vintage basses, the whole thing kinda smacks of some boomers who can’t possibly imagine something being popular once they’re gone, like they’re the arbiter of an entire genre or (vintage) guitar ethos. Ego much? Si
  17. Best bass chorus on the market Si
  18. Oh those horrible pickup changes on the '66......poor thing 😑 Well, at least you like it haha. Si
  19. 🙄 Come on, really? Si
  20. That sounds more like an actual problem rather than the inherent ‘issue’ of blend pots. As far as I understand it, the blend pot is essentially adding in 2 extra volumes pots, as such, more resistance, therefore mildly reduced top end. Si
  21. Did you notice much top end loss? Seems to be the fallout from a blend on a passive bass due to loading (same issue with actives but you can boost highs to correct obviously). Si
  22. For a modern Fender, this looks lush! Really lovely dark fingerboard! Si
  23. Title reminded me of this banger (no pun intended): Si
  24. You probably also don't have a lot of leeway with regards to your setup compared to a higher-tension situation. By that I mean that a shortscale is low tension by nature due to the scale length, combined with low tension strings. Compounded by a potential issue with the bridge/saddle maybe not being at its optimum. Ultimately it seems like it could be a few things that you'll need to experiment with, as opposed to it being the strings alone. Si
  25. I think the piece is incredibly musical, there is harmonic complexity there, the chord progression is great, everything flows wonderfully from a musical point of view etc etc. If anything it’s a shame it isn’t longer, but then that’s the nature of carving out a career in music nowadays (as mentioned earlier). Reminds me of Polyphia. Regardless, without taking anything away from Charles (he’s way more technically able than I’ll ever be), I’d like to know how it was recorded. Whether it’s a single take or a multi-take piece. I suspect the latter, which somewhat dulls the ‘most technically able bassist on the planet’ hyperbole, but doesn’t take anything away from the fact is a wonderfully musical piece. Si
