1. Chris has one...he wants the 750-A But have a bump. Great amps and a lot of amp for the money, IMO.
2. No, don't suffer from it and it may be because I always try to be the most prepared I can be. I dislike going into gigs offthe pace and therefore very rarely do..altho that doesn't mean you always have great gigs form a personal POV. I am also highly critical but I just relax and think others don't judge as I do. I have also learnt that this can be positive as long as it pushes you on and you don't get on everyone else nerves about it. So I back of and hold my tongue more.. I like a gig where the ante is raised a tad but I am really not going to beat myself up for a pub date for £50 or so... If you have an inner confidence that you know what you are doing and can mostly do it..then that is a nice cushion to have. I would think that you may feel under pressure more so, because your preparation may not be ideal..?? Also, don't play in 3-4 piece bands where all the work comes your way... let someone else take the heat. Enjoy it..that is the main point.
3.
Haven't seen these before, thanks for the suggestion. After a quick google they seem quite hard to get a hold of, you know of any going? Would be nice to check them out.
Think there are or is at least one in the FS forum here.now. I've seen them for £390 upwards these last 6 months or so. Do a search. The only issue would be how tired or how hard a life it has had..but then, I've played through quite a few very tired 8x10's.
4. Here is an alternative SWR610 Goliath snr cab. Anything less than £500 looks ok..if in VGN. Lot of cab for the money in terms of quality and way better than Ashdown, IMO. You will need to get used to the SWR sound which if you can..will really tighten up your playing/sound..
5. maybe.. but the hit and miss aspect very much applies as regards Fender, IMO. but lets not think they are alone in this.
6. Understand about the fan bass issues ..and you are left to pick up those pieces. In that case, you might want to get an explaination from the venue/management behind the decision and explain your concerns about your people/fans turning out and being stiffed but I would also think you aren't going to get the real reason. I doubt you will want to blow the venue/promoter responsible out ..not cutting your nose off to spit your face etc... but I wouldn't be selling their tickets anymore after that. I would take the cast-iron contracted fee and let them be responsible for the strokes they pull. In the meantime you still have to make good the mess with your fan base. You can only aplogise and try and amends but I wouldn't be treated like that again.
7.
Confused....... Bemused....... Gobsmacked. Words to describe a fairly big gig we played at last night. Venue was the Watford Colosseum, 1200 tickets were sold for the event. Cart Wash night/70's 80's disco theme. Well we played first set at around 10pm..... DJ continued on..... then informed that we were not to play a second set. No explanation other than they felt that the band wasn't fitting with the theme of the event???? Apparently the management seems to think our set list wasn't in keeping with the disco theme.... Is it just me or are we barking up the wrong tree with these songs? Superfly Turn on Tune In Cop Out Play That Funky Music House Party Ladies Nite DJ Saved My Wife Groove is in the Heart Little L Cosmic Girl Bad Girls Starsky & Hutch That's the Way I Like It Get Down Tonight Get Down On It Move On Up You Sexy Thing Superstitious Disco Inferno Mighty Real Car Wash You Should be Dancing Long Train Running (Moves Like Jagger?) Cold Sweat Sex Machine Sing It Back I Wish Odd seeing as we are a disco covers band. Management of the venue were more than unhelpful. Dj then continued to play the Jam, Wham, Dexy's midnight runners, etc...... it was like walking into a giant Chicago's pub. Any thoughts? Bemused Essex.
Don't get that brief at all...you played a 80's disco set for a Car Wash gig and they deemed that unfitting..?? Sounds crazy to me...and sounds like a lot more behind the scenes. If you had them all dancing and you still go bumped, I'd say there was something else going on. Who didn't perform to the brief..you or the disco..?? sounds like the latter to me. If it were me, I wouldn't give a stuff and would have been glad to be let off the second set, but I assume you would need this gig and this promoter/venue to not want to 'fail/bomb' or however you might percieve it. Move on and survey what damage there may be when you get the fall-out..or not..from this.
8. Sold...!!! you on commision..?
9. Good gig last night and great crowd..but after our xmas lay-off..3 gigs since, I feel, as a band and individually, we are a tad off the pace atm. Not that anyone would really notice but I know it, for sure. Some hard yards to put in before the all important summer season, but we have enough time to go through the gears as we don't get out of second or third at mo. Still, no complacency is good.
10.
I'm not one for fender type basses, but that is bloody gorgeous. I even like the tort guard & I usually hate those.
It is and I think he has a great eye for styling... up there with the very best, IMO. That wouldn't be my issue... and I'd be interested in a NYC at the right price for me. I could also say that about other makers as well, tho. If there are a few Sadowsky for sale here, then that is good as you could pick up a nice bass for decent money.. As to why they are selling..?? Well, I think there are people who will buy a 'cool' name .. as in the name may have some kudos here, and then sell it if that name seems diminshed
11. whatever it costs for what I want.
12. Difficult. I would be wary of a low or next to nothing post count as that might imply the only reason to join is to sell... The best point for buying here, IMO, is that people should value their status and regard here and so therefore should not want to undermine that. On balance I would prefer a min post count, but in effect, I probably apply that anyway at some level.
13. In a way...most people are used to paying to clicks...they are called the drummer. It may be that your drummer isn't very good at keeping time but people will move with that... So, in that sense, we are conditioned to follow time anyway. The problem is that drummers don't often have to do this so aren't that good at it. Those that are have had to put their time in. Clicks are all down to monitoring and the drummer and you have to make sure he can hear it first and foremost..and then to stick to it. Queues become very critical as you just can't miss them. The more you fly in, they more the potential for disaster, IMO. Our drummer plays to a laptop, and this is something we want to explore..but in all reality, we don't really need to as we have a full compliment so probably more hassle than it is worth for us, atm
14.
The Barefaced family is growing and will soon dominate the world of bass cabinets - be warned
hmmm.. not really, I don't know any bass players who have heard of them. Most vocal seem to be from this site and then people who spoke out against them on here don't seem to bother to do that anymore. Maybe that might give the impression that there is massive endorsement when that is not always the case. If it is research you are after, then you need to trawl quite deeply..and maybe include other sites like TB or Fbass.
15.
my old dad used to say "never accept advise from someone who will profit by you taking it".
Quote of the day.. and not a bad one, I'll remember that.
16. A friind of mine pretty close to the business said that a lot of policies were actually underwritten by the same few companies and therefore a kind of cartel was effectively in place. And also that you should not assume that one years policy is the same the next year...unless you prudently check. A renewal isn't any sort of garauntee that you get the same policy ..and that is because the terms underneath may have changed and you need to trawl the policy religously. Insuraing and liabilities are getting mroe and more expenisve every year..look at how much the average motor claim now is...and you'll see why the underwriters have to rewrite pretty often. Understandably, the business needs to legislate their costs...AND DO..so you just need to be aware of the goal posts potentially moving ....OFTEN..!!
17. Not a fan of 12's over 10's myself and I have both. So I would expect a downgrade from 6x10's into 2x12. But if you can live with a 1x15..I'd expect a decent 2x12 to walk all over that. Plus..with respect, Ashdowns aren't the higher end of cabs either...ditto TE. Having said that, if it is a sound you have liked, then it works for you. Look at it this way...accept that this may be a downgrade and a compromise and the gain is weight, so if the new cab works as well for you, then that is another bonus.

hmmm some lovely basses here... and I seem to have gas for one of these... I hope it will pass http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Xotic.html
19. Don't know... but there is a Neox in the FS section so if it comes down to money..??
20. I want to get me one of Kev's basses.. I hear they are the ticket and going cheap now.
21. Depends who was carrying it and depends on the stage set. I liked big valve heads when I had the good fortune to plug into them and they worked very well straight off. I am of the opinion that with Ampegs, for example, you need to be able to do this or you are in EQ hell, as there is not a lot you can do to change it. For me, IME, it is what it is. The EQ issue is also lessened by the fact that side fills or monitors will do a lot of work anyway, so the problem with the amp not working so well for you is disapated If I wanted a grindey sound, then a valve pre is ok.. but to get around the EQ side, I'd want a semi 4 band parametric stage and to my knowledge, you are then looking at SWR SM or Eden amps. There may be others, but not that I've tried. I've since gone with SS with valve simulations but find myself not even wanting to use that now.
22.
Ta Muchly will look over Endsleigh Where do you get your PLI JTUK
I'll get back to you on this as it is an ongoing thing brought about by us playing more private functions..and some of those are in people's gardens or grounds. Regular venues should have it as a matter of course, but the problem is the one-off gig where it becomes very expensive to put on over the costs of that one date.
23. As we have all said before, it is a network game as much as anything else. Unless you have people banging on your door begging you to play for them, you have to get yourself out there and known. That means taking it gigs as it shows you who else is about... and talking to people. Of course, credibility comes into it and you have to come across as someone worth being taken seriously but if you ask the right way, I am sure some one knows someone who is looking. You have to keep going and sort some wheat from the chaff, but that is ok as well... People have to know you are out looking and if they don't know you exists it gets a tad difficult, IYNWIM. Throw enough mud at the wall and some of it will stick..like a lot of things, really.
24.
I've been fawning over JT for a week now, and I am in total agreement If this were Talkbass we could start a Star struck club. With me as #1, obviously, it's my club. That kind o' ting seems important on TB, which is also a chest condition.
So you should... I bask in the company of 'greats' And for that, Gus..I'll join your club, but only as member no 2. I hope this new poster has a sense of humour after this thread.
