I still wouldn't put Deacon in the same camp as Entwhistle or Bruce...neither of whom I particuarly gravited to, as it happnes. Edwards was more my thing, but the one thing those 3 all have, IMO, is that they took the bass REALLY somewhere else at the time and that is why the 'deserve' their place.

I use a DB750 which is a lump itself, and DB212's and/or DB210's. I have the DB212 at 4 ohms and the DB210's @ 8 each should I want to carry them all but I can't see a way to really need them all going. The 212 is great but the DB212 plus DB210 even better so that is my best stage rig. I think the 10's just open up the top end a bit better but they may be at a better height. The DB212 is around 70lbs and as long as it is on wheels it is an ok lift into the car. I make a point of lifting other stuff so I always can get a hand if need be. I also have 2xAE112's which do ok, but they aren't a patch on the sheer authority I get from the DB212 and certainly the 212+210, but then that is to be expected. Sometimes it is just as simple as small rig, small sound, light rig. light sound IMO.

I bet none of you like the bass as hard as this guy
Just say 'no' to drugs, kids!
yep... I'd go with that. Losing a finger would bring you round pretty quick, otherwise, I'd have thought. -
Since this is primarily an appreciation thread, only a couple have mentioned that they weren't fans. For my part, I just don't think there is anything special to listen to and he was lucky to be part of a successful band Nothing wrong in that, plenty are lucky enough. I think I know hundreds of guys ( well, not hundreds, slight exageration ) who could so the same if in the right place etc, and not discounting band chemistry etc .. Good luck to the guy...quite admire his supposed stance that the time with Queen has passed after FM died even though the newer unit with Paul Rogers et al, is far better, IMO. But then without the writing element, they are not much more than a covers/tribute band..but again, nothing wrong with that, they've earned it and bring joy to zillions

American Deluxe j5 in 3 colour sunburst, tort plate, Rosewood neck, block and bound. Pref a P bass nut ..

I've said this countless times before..broken record time... you want to position your bass in the grand mix by EQ'ing the whole band.... if you just make sure the bass comes thru by just midding the thing out... you can end up with a low hump which is heard but really doesn't or can't underpin the band. This is NOT the thing you want to achieve IMV. Of course, you can leave it to the FOH mix...if you have one, but you need to know what the engr is going to do with it. If you go too far with mids... you can lose the whole reason you want bass in the 1st place. Far better to clear out what you want to punch thru in the first place...IMO.
Looks like poor design, to me. There should be a penny washer or similar to spread the load, I'd have thought. Just sayin'
yep...just a basic washer but this is where the penny pinching goes... I personally don't like straps on gear ( too cheap an option, IMO ) and far FAR prefer a handle, anyway. -
We had a Thump sub for a couple of months... it went pretty quickly. Nothing good to say about it really... I think Mackie have fallen from a decent height unfortunately...but then you could say that about HK, as well, IMO. HK over Mackie, for sure, tho.

Unfortunately this is why most bands give this place a wide berth and have done for the last few years, IME. Has the guy there now, been there a couple of years...I could mention his name but best not to at this stage. I know 4 bands that were 'messed' about in the last year/18 months, ( all within a few months of each other ) and to my knowledge they don't/wont play there now... and it is left to bands that either don't know or are more desperate for a gig to fill the rosta. If you go onto Mrgig and/or FB pages, you will hear the guy saying he doesn't do this sort of thing but takes the opinions of his regulars very seriously, and if they say a band is out, he doesn't mess around, they are out..?? All sounds like shooting his argument for fair practice right in the foot to me.... and that did make people ridicule the place. When I read your title, the first place I thought of was this place... and so it was...

I brought mine new late 70's, early 80's and it was bomb proof so therefore I measure MM by that standard..and I don't feel they make them like that anymore. They were pretty basic workhouses but now I would ask, are you sure you want a MM and why..? Plenty of people round here use them thru a classic sealed rig and they all lack bottom in the band mix. I blame the humbucker and EQ stage as much as the rig and the guys using it....but I know that view isn't going to go down well here. They, however will point to lots of 'likes' and 'positive comments', so ..??? If you want constructive comment, I'll embellish, or if you want a MM love-in... carry on without me

^ Good on PV... I am not always kind to them sound-wise, and there is a pricepoint to consider but this sounds like very good service

My local music shop telling it like it is!!
JTUK replied to SpaceChick's topic in General Discussion
If you specialise in pretty much one thing, you will need to cast your net far and wide. I've been to GAK, Andertons and BassGear these last few months..all good, all different. I prefer shops to have a seperate room and that way you get past the 'audtioners'... having said that, I guess we have all done it. You should always ask to try something...that is just basic manners, but also it gets the attention of the staff and they can look after you. -
Help needed ... Another Pub down due to one noize complaint !
JTUK replied to Adee's topic in General Discussion
Great fan of pubs but some are just not suitable for live music... either because they are too near too many houses and have to keep all doors and windows shut even on hot evenings.. this isn't a deal breaker tho' and should be able to get sorted...or the playing area is too small, viewing area inadequate, too near the actual bar so the bar staff can't hear what drinks to serve... etc etc etc.. A few places round here are putting up a marquee all summer in the garden,... and can then justify a small stage and host a few outside.. more of an issue with neighbours tho.. -

I like peace and quiet and really couldn't put up with Britne balling that her Arron has 'just snogged some tart and she is going to smack the bitch right up' at 1pm... I'd close more of them, actually... or certainly require them to pass more stringent music licensing criteria. -
He definately played a Wal bass, live at least , ......................
But I would be betting that is a P-bass on the track...

[sub]Always difficult to call these things from a distance..............[/sub] [sub]having said that............ I'd never move near a pub, and can't imagine why anyone would.[/sub] -
I think the phrase here might be 'false economy' !
I'm still going to go with this.....

I'd say that is a P-bass...... compressed with a drivey sound. All of which would have been about par at the time. Probably what was en vogue at the time would have been a mutron box...

Why do people get so upset? its only the internet
For the record - as apparently one of the most complained-about members still active on BC - I pretty much never set out to offend anyone, and I have sometimes deleted stuff I've posted when drunk and I've also apologised to mods in PM where I've felt I treated my audience in an over-familiar way. Sometimes I assume people will understand that I am being ironic (unless you are a long way down the autistic spectrum in which case I am genuinely sorry if I offended you) and go ahead and post something that is clearly an irony-based joke, but either nobody ever appreciates my real sentiment or I've just got one f***ing guy who will use every possible excuse to report my posts. And he does provide a lot of advertising revenue so fair play to him. But yeah, my main issue is I assume I'm talking to reasonable-minded friends, when in fact many of you may be Tories or demented in some other way, and I accept that it's wrong to assume that you're all perfectly reasonable people who are capable of empathy.
I doubt we agree on too much but I like that you tell 'like it is' and if that makes you more a maverick I think I'd rather have that than a sycophant.. I think there is something to be said for not having a forum too cosy where you daren't or can't say anything that might upset a group or a sphere of influence... If it really needs saying...we need people to say it.. IMO. of course, they are sensitivities but hopefully, we aren't kids and the mods are generally good.... We are either a diverse community with all that entails for good and not so bad...to a degree... or we are a cheerleading group. -
I certainly think you should try the 2 12's together, but since this is not a known practice, it seems, you need to borrow one to check it out. I have a feeling it could be a better match up than a 15 and 12 but that really depends how you play
-
Impossible to say... Even if you like that demo...do you play with that style..attack and feel..? Most amps can get you there or there abouts but by the same token if you approach it wrong... you could end up a million miles away. You need to think thru what the core thing is about that sound. Typically that is a rolled off sound, so the passive tone and a good touch will get you in the ball park. The real quality of the gear is that little extra mile...after a certain point, IMO.

Generally I don't like my life on a computer. Once it's out there, there is no getting it back. FB and Google etc..??? what do they do with all this info..?? -
I would prefer to have a quality straight cable...which is not typically the stuff you buy in some shops. So, something like Klotz cable and Neutrik jacks....and then sort out your stage so you aren't tripping over all sort of leads on the floor. Tape them down...........
