We were on a street in Burnham On Sea and the sound was just getting lost. I don't doubt in a covered shopping area the sound would be fine but on a wide street on a windy day the sound is easily lost. Fair point though, some basses do hold up better than others. I had a wide and deep bodied Aria acoustic bass that was really loud.

I went busking last year and bass won't cut it on it's own. The sound gets lost in the street. Acoustic basses / upright basses are both great fun but a small battery amp will be required if you want to be there for anything other than the look

(see attached image) Looks like the 4001 / 4003 to me as the majority of Rickenbacker guitars have straighter headstocks but I just wanted to triple check. This is from a cool picture I liked.

I prefer 34" scale as 1) it seems to be the standard on most basses and 2) I'm tall so tend to look more comfortable with bigger basses. I've not bought nice looking basses because they have been shorter scale. The Rickenbacker is 33 1/3" but I figure what's 3/4"?

Welcome to the forum. My first fretless was an old Vox that had been defretted by the last owner - so it was lined, of sorts. It is a different ball game and I wouldn't immediately associate it with your chosen style of music but as the others have highlighted there are always exceptions. If it is in addition to an existing set up then yes, a serious contender but if you are looking to maybe upgrade what you have then I'd give it some real thought.

For some reason I took this to be your right hand and not your left hand despite you clearly stating so ignore my last post. I haven't mixed up left and right this bad since infant school! Don't know why that happened

Sounds to me like you'd be wise to consider medical advice. If the bass is a pig to play, change it. I had a beautiful Jazz bass that gave me shooting pains up my left arm. I got rid of it and have never had a problem since. Are you used to playing reguarly? Do you warm up? It's difficult to know what to say based on what you have said i.e. without seeing your injury and knowing more background

I do like the Ampeg stuff personally. On the off chance you'd be interested I have a BA115 for sale that is pretty much immaculate. No worries if it's bigger than you need but I thought I'd mention it. Within your budget but no worries if you have other stuff lined up

We tried the google calendar and having a Google group for discussions. The group worked better than the calendar but it was a good idea in theory. You have to set a rule to say it's individuals responsible to update or it is a bit pointless. Some members were certainly better than others with it

Just got back from Stoke Newington where I did what was my first gig since I had chemo last month. Awesome fun and it's great to be back in the saddle again.

I thought about this a lot when I was ill last year. My wife would have the say but my original P-bass would go to my old school friend and I'd divide them up amongst certain players who I believe wouldn't sell on. I gave him my old Vox bass that was buried with the coffin in North Watford Cemetary back in the mid-late 90s. The guy was a player so I thought it was a fitting tribute. Never got a penny for it though and I didn't know the guy. I would have thought my friend would have bought us a pint at least - that Vox must've been worth something

I own a 1978 bass and that's absolute top dollar price for a musuem piece that's 100% all original. It looks ok but I think it's over priced. There are a few fairly large scuffs, non original case etc. I'd like to see pics inside, a bit more of it's history (I know he's had it 15yrs) etc. Mine came with the original receipt, paperwork, original strings etc and I paid less than that - only last month.

I agree with the general viewpoint here, keep it similar. And good luck too
