  1. band'mates' who abuse kit , just treating stuff roughly and throwing it about just grinds my gears
  2. Spector - Subaru Impreza with models to suit the budget of those that understand
  3. I remember Toola from an episode of Shoestring
  4. I should have done a cover of the Beatles obloidee, obloidah
  5. A fine selection again this month chaps
  6. Ive just been listening to these I'll be voting after a few more listens
  7. I have been considering moulded plugs for a while , mainly due to vanity i have etymotic er20 which I always use for rehearsal , but not so much gigs , my thinking is that rehearsing I tend to be facing drums and guitar amps , but gigging I mainly have the protection of facing away from the noise source. Now I reckon on that score that if I bought the ACS pro 10 's , I would get enough protection for gigs both playing and attending , though the 17's seem to be the ones they recommend for this , has anyone tried both or either for a comparison of both spl reduction but clarity of sound ?
  8. Saw a great couple of bands on Friday a young band from ellesmere port , Turbulence, great music and playing but need a bit more presence , but they'll grow into that. another bunch though not kids , Michigan from Warrington , most excellent . both bands worth following and I will definitely catch them again

    BOOKS!

Give it a few days , kind of bump
  10. Yup , I think I'll put this one to bed
  11. I know a few of the classic chords , and to be honest it is easier to 'play a song' on a guitar , though I can do the same on a piano , a bass is far more discretionary when it comes to accompaniment. though to make a bollocks of my argument, to 'play a song' might indicate a confidence in an ability to sing it
  12. Ah , but there we have the crux of the infinite chase of tone
  13. Errrrr , no ...until the next dude finds you used a cheapo AF set and rounded the heads on every bolt on the motor , thus rendering further improvement a total PITA
  14. quality link my sound guru its got got me thinking though , if I were to invest a touch into the wife's hobby , and invest in some Miele acoustic vacuum bags , would the room sound 'cleaner'
  15. Ok , so having digested most of this thread , I'm thinking I'm close to having a great sounding room , but do you think that the plaster on the walls need a treatment with a subtle warm buttermilk with a hint of magnolia calico or a harder apple white eggshell Taxi ......
  16. We played a pub not too far away , took a few followers and friends and it all went very well , got some great compliments from the locals and got invited back . A touch surreal on the last tune , one of the 'ladies' who were quite enthusiastic in their dancing , decided the band were worth a blimp of her breasts , I was in bulk but singer and lead guitar were like rabbits in the head lights

    MONITORS.

Oh, you'll have a fair few of those moments as you progress , and if you are anything like me , give it enough time and you'll have the same problem again and will have forgotten how you sorted it
  18. Our singer uses in ears but occasionally has moans that it drops out if I stand in the way of the signal , oh how I manage to look serious while chuckling away to myself . One problem is that he has started playing a bit of guitar as well , but he can't hear it , so he has to mic up his amp , now he can hear it in his ears but has no idea how loud/quiet he is in the mix . We set it quite low and leave him to it
  19. Your funk knows no bounds dude
  20. I did really fancy one , and tried to get to the LBGS to try one out , I didn't get there, but @Merton kindly did a quick review for me . The price point seemed to be an issue, though the bass was well put together. I think I would like to like one, but I would need to motivate myself to play one first , I can't take a punt at those prices
  21. This one hits new levels for me , because it nearly actually worked out in some degree to my first idea , though in all honesty, the 'rawk' concept morphed into a touch more 'Kaempfert' but it was fun enough for Lurksalittle to get involved warning of course .....I sing on it
  22. that is so funny on a similar note.. our rhythm guitarist left , he did lots of BVs and harmonies , so the singer buys a multi voice harmonics box to compensate. This box is uber complicated and uses lead guitarist plugged in to analyse the chords to create the harmonies . Neither knew how to use it effectively and very nearly caused the implosion of the band , especially when I started taking a microphone to add a touch of focus to the vocal line up
  23. How odd , I'd never have picked up on that myself , but now you've mentioned it , I can recall a few occasions where I reckon that to be a thing
  24. Get the drummer to sit on his own sub , he'll feel it and then ditch the rest of noise fest
  25. To be honest, I'd stick to headphones just for now, simple cheapest ones until you have got the hang of routinely plugging instruments in , recording them , very rough mixing them . that in my case took a big load of work adding the complication of monitors at this stage would have just done my head in, you will get an array of choices and preferences , where to put them and how many thousands of pounds to spend on your room to make them sound right
