  1. I did really fancy one , and tried to get to the LBGS to try one out , I didn't get there, but @Merton kindly did a quick review for me . The price point seemed to be an issue, though the bass was well put together. I think I would like to like one, but I would need to motivate myself to play one first , I can't take a punt at those prices
  2. This one hits new levels for me , because it nearly actually worked out in some degree to my first idea , though in all honesty, the 'rawk' concept morphed into a touch more 'Kaempfert' but it was fun enough for Lurksalittle to get involved warning of course .....I sing on it
  3. that is so funny on a similar note.. our rhythm guitarist left , he did lots of BVs and harmonies , so the singer buys a multi voice harmonics box to compensate. This box is uber complicated and uses lead guitarist plugged in to analyse the chords to create the harmonies . Neither knew how to use it effectively and very nearly caused the implosion of the band , especially when I started taking a microphone to add a touch of focus to the vocal line up
  4. How odd , I'd never have picked up on that myself , but now you've mentioned it , I can recall a few occasions where I reckon that to be a thing
  5. Get the drummer to sit on his own sub , he'll feel it and then ditch the rest of noise fest
  6. To be honest, I'd stick to headphones just for now, simple cheapest ones until you have got the hang of routinely plugging instruments in , recording them , very rough mixing them . that in my case took a big load of work adding the complication of monitors at this stage would have just done my head in, you will get an array of choices and preferences , where to put them and how many thousands of pounds to spend on your room to make them sound right
  7. Even that sounds a bit dated dated nowadays I had an annoyance at last weeks gig, I did the sound check and all was goodish , a horrible stage space , almost a box with us playing through a big gap , so the on stage sound was getting bounced back at us and the monitors had to as low as useless to prevent feedback. We had comments at the end about how clear the vocals were and lead guitar and what a lovely blend it all was , but after talking around to a few there , it was like lead guitar and vocal was all that mattered , the rhythm section were just there to fill the rest of the stage , the annoying bit is that to a lot of the punters , that is just about what they expect, a good singer and lead guitar
  8. We don't do originals , but in a band of old the guitarist recorded the rehearsals because he was anal , it help the others in the band I think though we played the same 24 songs and rehearsed them fir 4 years the current shower don't record anything , rehearse it a couple of times then it goes in the set , we often seem to end up jamming them , but as long as we are listening to each other , we seem to find a way to get to the end
  9. I recommend cutting your hair quite short as the first thing to do . That way you'll have less chance of pulling it all out when you get stuck in one of those corners that will drive you mad . Perseverance helps in the recording section here, there is a brilliant thread that helps with the basics. i find it difficult to offer advice on a 'how to record' basis as there are so many little bits that seemed so alien to me at the start, even the language i remember being given a link to a glossary of recording terminology, I would have one to hand when you watch the tutorials or read manuals. So much will go straight over your head that repetition is a very good thing
  10. I saw a very elegant solution by a DJ at a party , he had some white cloth wrapped around the pole from under the top that draped around the sub , this was then backlit and looked really good , though I supppose black cloth might work as well
  11. I really think it depends on how you are feeling the vibe , on some gigs we can play through and get some occasional polite applause and any stage excitement would be like we were at the wrong gig. but last night for instance , there were loads out there who were singing and air drumming and guitaring from the start , it makes a massive difference to the stage energy levels.
  12. There is lot going on in that one I'm looking for an excuse to rawk but getting a feel to chant , now , my guitar work is hardly inspirational , but I think you've got a grasp on my vocal work by now maybe a mashup looks perfect for some Lenny funk
  13. If I'm honest , I try to move around in what normally amounts to about 2 sq feet of available stage space while trying to avoid stepping on the pedals encroaching my toes . I soon realised the advantage of coordinated stage moves as the likes of Shadows could all move with out smashing headstocks That said, our singer has taken to helping with some rhythm guitar work , but he's a left hooker
  14. We had a good one tonight in a new venue for us in Mold , a reasonable crowd, diminished a touch by the boxing, but boy were they up for it. We had some excellent feedback from some punters and the staff , so with repeat bookings for some saturdays in the diary , they now want some Fridays as well. looking good for us in that venue
  15. Well done Bilbo , excellent piece and a worthy winner .
  16. They are the best for original stuff , people go to see what they will see , most of the pub venues want either a genre, rock covers mainly ( saddle, foxes etc) or a party mix of classics (kings head, church etc ) though thinking on , I think the golden eagle occasionally puts on some new stuff , might be worth a punt .
  17. Sounds great , I was hoping to come down for this with Mike , but grandkids and dads taxi service got in the way , I'll look out for the next one
  18. There'll be a few more in before the death I'll wager . (Crosses fingers and puts the kettle on) though not holding breath , while turning into dad
  19. There is a topic in here on this very subject from last year or the year before , my phone search doesn't see it, but it is along the same lines , I bought something that was 'in stock' but patently wasn't . I got it after a couple of weeks , but I guess that is the current business model
  20. I do as well , I only voted for myself once , and that was because I was late in and noticed that a few had already done so , it mattered not in the final count , but I generally see it as 'not done' in my little view of things
  21. In the last band my neighbour was singer , guitarist , sound and lights . Bonus was, he didn't drink when gigging , so I brought the big van home and he drove it. Some quality booze fests when I played with that crew , though it was a bit tetchy for a few weeks when I left the band. I drive to all the gigs now , and since the one gig I had a few scoops at recently left me busting for a p1ss halfway through the second set , I am happy to drive now
