I'm with Dad here, I reckon there are any number of superb songs being written and performed by thousands of people all the time , the fact that they don't get massive exposure doesn't mean the songs are no better than the greats in any way.
Listen to some massive hits and they can be populist crap written, produced and promoted with the desire to fill the purses of those involved before the quality of the song.
I realise that music is a business and is just as much a money go round as any other business , but that doesn't mean that some of the also rans cant write some beautiful stuff
In a similar vein I have recorded a vocal for this month. My lad is coming round on Saturday morning to collect the grandson who we have over on a Friday night, we have a 60minute window to get them to put a couple of tracks down . If that works I can remove my vocal and offer a festive treat for your ears
Spot on
I always thought my voice sounded awful, but then the 3 times I've won the vote have all been with my vocal on them*
* But then so have another 40 of my entries that got no votes
As a performer of original work most months , I do think that covering other people's songs can offer an opportunity to be creative .
This might also be a good time to offer a reminder that this month in the recording forum , the challenge is not for an original , but a cover, let's be honest , all you have do is something like this
I own the van, the PA, the lights , book a lot of gigs and all the rehearsal time, provide some wit and the repartee , but mostly I really hold back my desire to add BV's , the atmosphere changes significantly if I turn up with a mic and stand ?
Just when I need to be creative the computer decides otherwise ☹️
Something is fishy , fir the first time I have latency in only 1 project and while adding some vocal the project crashed , again first time ever !!
I fear hours of investigation ....
I get invited to a shooting event at Christmas by a friend and customer , one of his friends is Martin Blunt from the Charlatans , lovely bloke, but it's a good job he scored some hits with his band because he didn't get any with a shotgun
I've gone short scale , no regrets here with regard playability , just hankering now for the right tone , and as my love of the spector tone means I need a Spector shorty , but the price of them is beyond me , I recall Vinny had a daisy rock short scale that played beautifully
I've voted , and mine is almost done for next month
to be fair we had a right good laugh at the idea and having done a rough mix , lurksalittle loved it , so we should have some family participation again , I am really hanging my hat on the hope that my lad has still got a singing voice , if he can deliver on this it will be proper fun
A bonus gig last , I got a tag in a FB post by a mate for a pub that had a band cancel for the Friday , I contacted the band got availability and booked it ! Proper price, 2hrs playing and a great step into a pub/town we've been trying for a while , we had a dozen came to see us and a promise of three gigs next year.
we had them bouncing by the end of the night, our sound was great and we played really well.
a right result ?
I had to wait a day for my ozone code but it came through on email no probs , I am much like Fingers , I probably need my ears educating rather than keep forking out for lots of kit that does the same thing but in different ways , non of which I seem to be able to master ?
