1. If your not inspired it is easy to lose interest , I played at school , then in a couple of garage bands , but sold up for about 10 years, I got bought a new one by the wife and hit lucky with a blues outfit that the neighbour was putting together , a lack of ambition of the band meant I left (after a fair few years) with no intention of playing much but doing something else. Then my lad suggest I looked at joinmyband , I did for the craic and fell in with the best bunch ever , the rhythm guitarist has been in bands for 30yrs and I swear he can play any song you care to mention in 2 secs , the drummer is sooooooo solid it is untrue, and the singer , well he can sing like a bird , ok the lead guitarist is a lead guitarist but is often on fire . Do what you have to, and let something inspire you , tell us what is is when it happens, but don't write write the low end off just yet
2. grinch me? by kevin.ahern, on Flickr how to look good at 50 ? ok , I wear a hat on stage , that is what really tips it
3.
Also looking weird helps...
Hmmm , I think wierd is relative , with a body shaven grinch as a front man , a lead guitarist with the shortest skirt and best tats in the house, and you, it would appear the stickman is the weird one
4. this is soooooooooooo subjective , as appears from the responses. I want to understand this stuff aswell , and while I may have no chance , the process of learning it is proving very interesting and a great source of learning can be had not too far away , personally, I think training the way you listen is a massive step towards knowing what you hear .
5. loads of Jack Bruce stuff is very blues inspired , Clapton etc , and will echo the Peter Green Fleetwood mac era , as well as all the classics , but can come equally modern with the likes of Joe Bonnamassa , the Genre is wide open , fill your boots with your own play on it Ed to add I have played support to Larry Garner a couple of years ago when he played with Norman Beakers blues band , they were superb, 'keeping the blues alive' is his philosophy , and a great guy to boot.
6. Excellent news Jim , I shall start the map in the morning.
7. I absolutetly understand the learning resource part of the competition , thats why I have included myself in the process , I know my skills and kit is very limited , but, the whole idea is a great insight into the world of production. I have seen documentaries, read a few articles and hear reference to mixing quite regularly , but its not until you get your hands dirty that the pieces start to fit . Lots of people know this stuff and can hone their skills , me , I am in at the first rung and it is a fantastic idea. when I first saw the competition announced , I could barely start up a DAW , and had no idea what the competition was all about. ( if your hear my entry, you might argue I still don't) but at least I've got to the first rung . Some of the replies take a fair bit of thought and time to respond and post, so I for one appreciatte the effort that a lot have put into the project.
8. Brilliant Jim , though my daughter will try to prise that from hands , she has a thing for anything purple at the moment
9. Charic , I have now read your spoilers , and thank you for being so polite about mine , different will do just fine
10. I've voted , I have to say this is as much a competition to the ear as it is to mixing , even learning to listen to the mixes knowing what was on offer is a total education .
11. Mine is here , I Hope here I have taken the # out of the link that mucked it up last time , but soundcloud isn't working for me ATM. but the link appears to be at least looking in the right place
12. Yep just need to convert some of the thread views into yes pleases and it will be a monster , DON'T BE SHY this could be a great craic , get yourselves signed up and join in , there isn't much to it, just be willing to to play a little part in a national bass experience , possibly international , Roll up , Roll up
13.
Isn't that impossible ?
Not quite , My wife was arranging a surprise party for me but didn't check my gig diary , so we had a gig on my birthday weekend that we had to do , so I announced that as my birthday bash and loads came , great night . My wife had reaaranged the surprise party for a month later and booked the band which was in the gig diary as a party for a mate of the drummers, I knew nothing until I turned up with the kit , went in through the stage door and the whole place shouted surprise , it was a superb night , so yes I played at both my 50th birthday parties
14. completed Ed I have had a few enquiries now , so if they all fall through I will repost ,Cheers all
15. Warwick 'red strings' 100,80,60,40 ML Unused in the packet , Roundwound Stainless , I have had them quite a while I reckon , but I don't think they have been out of the packet
16. Jim , I think the BC relay sounded good , your call I reckon , charity /BC sounds good , we could even anounce the event at each gig and put a hat round, though that would be optional .
17. I am honoured to be a part of this superb project , thanks for having me on board
18.
Wouldn't necessarily have to follow a list. Say I do the gig, no one local can collect and I go for a day out somewhere, post "I'll be going to so and so, who wants it" kinda thing, but a list as basic guide would probably help. The maps cool, would be good to watch it move around. Even more so if its a really impracticle route. I reckon this could turn out really interesting.
Keeping it fluid sounds superb, thats a great vision , it would be a great to keep a list of participants , gigs , dates etc as part of the fun and I will do the map if you want me to .
19. We just do legwork , knocking on doors, talking to people and putting on a half decent performance when we get a gig , after a while the repeat bookings come along and make the work a bit easier , but always knock on new doors and see getting in at new venues half the fun, I think we are of an age though where friends are at notable birthdays and a fair few parties come our way , they all look good on a band CV , I personally had two 50th birthday parties last year , and the band played at both
20. Just a bit of fun to see how big I can get a map Ok that might work , it would need a list to follow with detail of the participants but there should be enough space to put some numbers/letters to index to the list on a route . I would need to update the picture as and when , and please excuse the iffy example above but it might work as long as the entire BC community doesnt join in, but if they do, it could be done region by region
21. Possibley best to get as many on board as poss , plan a rough route, then pester the heck out of everyone to fill the gaps, timescales will be a bit interesting depending of the BCers gig calender .
22. sounds great fun, I'd love to join in with this, I think there are a few BCers around this neck of the woods.
23. I have a pet cage surplus to requirements if anyone is interested. it is 4ft x 2ft and has a cage over a plastic tray base. For accurrate description have a look here but in grey collection to suit , but can possibly deliver if very local
24.
I'd like to hear that....
So would I , but My thinking is waaaaayyy past my ability at the moment , mind you my easier idea is proving very awkward and a right pain in the derrier . I only just realised that to add a vocal I have to monitor the track , that involves ear phones so I had to work out how to recieve a signal via usb yet send it out vis the headphone socket , for some reason, the headphone out on the audio interface did not kill the output , and as I type this I realise I could of just pulled out the output jack when one headsmashing is just not enough
