1.
And his bass is a "transitional" '55 or '56, with the single-coil pickup, but beveled front armrest.
Bizarreguitarreno in the 'States has a Fender Custom Shop one in Butterscotch. Also, grguitars rattle 'em up, too.
2. Anyone having trouble downloading the pdf?
3. Trace Elliot Boxer combo - the worst piece of bass-sh*t ever!
4.
I bought "Je suis un Popstar" when I was a nipper (I had bad taste in music even back then!)
Ahhh... the song with the telling line: '...they'll think I'm your dad, and you're my dot-ah.' !!
5.
Never understood the "Bill's not much cop" thing. I thought he fitted the band far better than Darryl Jones, who IMO gave them a different feel which (also IMO) didn't work half as well. I really like Bill's playing in the Stones, always have.
Agreed. I'm not a major Stones fan but like a lot of their stuff and listening to Wyman's lines, well, they're rather unique in their style, I think.
6. Were they really any good, those '70s Bassmans? I recall seeing a guy battering an Aria SB1000 through one back in the '90s and it sounded woolly with next to no definition. Might have been his tone settings but it sounded bowff!
7. I can't think of any band that's had so many line-up changes as Yes has, other than maybe King Crimson? I stopped following them a long time time back though they were a big influence on me when I was young. Unfortunatley, darkandrew, Drama was my least fav Yes album and so was the line-up that produced it; they were awful, live, as well. Be interesting to hear what other BCers say about the new release.
8. I used to use these guys as few years back.
9. Thx, Discreet.
10. The hearing in my left ear was damaged by standing next to my jacked-up Trace rig back in the '80s However, the tinitus only came on since about '06 when I got a new car with a decent sound system. Listening to Rammstein etc at loud levels in a confined space definitely brought it on. Yesterday, I gave a new Strat a good thrashing through the Bassman and the old ears where whislting away and the left one is still whistling away just now. I don't gig any longer but I do like thrashing the guitars every now and then. What kind of earplugs are people using, as a matter of interest?
11. Ok, the Tom Petty has finally gone. The 660 DCM 75th Anniversary is still up for sale at £1800 firm!
12.
I'll give you a quid if you do. Post screenshots here
Yep, me too! Go for it, this weather is getting me down and I need a lift!
13.
To my ears you lose that classic vintage Fender sound as soon as you start upgrading any of the cheap junk Fender put on their basses.......
I couldn't agree more!
14.
Yup, like them too! In fact, maybe I could put some Hipshot UltraLite ovals/paddles/lollipops/whatever on one of the Jazzes...Hmmmm...
I did that on a Jap non-export dot n bound I had: stuck some Hipshot lollies on it. A fellow Basschatter now owns that bass.
15. No, can't stand blocks. I do love the '65-'66 dot and bound Jazzes withe the lollipop tuners, though!
16. Very, very interested. Was just looking at Esquires this morning. Whereabouts in Weej are you?
17. I had a Blues Junior and found it really harsh and brittle, even with GT valves in it. Speaker or electronics? I dunno. Flogged it and got a Bassman with the valve recifier. Much better tone!
18. I mean, look how long it took Fender to bring out the Esquire again, but they did! And if you look at the mish-mash of designs Fender is coming out with at the moment, reissuing a period-correct Jazz makes perfect business sense.
19. A lot of guys say that the L2 is superior to the XL2; I can't say that to be the case. I remember an L2 I had on long-term loan back in the '80s and, IMO, I can't say that it's better than my XL2A. Then again, the XL2A is a different beast altogether and the '80s were a long time back. Anyone want to chime in? Also, I am in the market for a fretless L2 or XL2, so if anyone spots one, gimme the heads-up?
20. Definitely not.
21. I'd have that, Geofio, if it hadn't been for that Badass bridge!
22. Fender needs to bring out a TRUE '60 stacker, right down to the correct logo, pots, resistors and caps. I have one based on that circuitry, with the pots being 220k. It's a bit on the quiet side but sounds sweet.
