@EBS_freak thank you for all your input in this thread, it has reinforced what I already thought, and has just killed almost all of my amp Gas, so you may have just saved me a fortune. Quick question though, if you are given the DI from an HX stomp is it comparable to a Kemper (presuming it's been programmed well) Cheers

Yup fair play, that's what I love about basschat, very few people get annoyed because some one had a different opinion. Its all good.

This is a very good set of points. I pretty much agree with all of them. When I buy expensive instruments it's due to them being handmade by individuals that I have massive respect for. When it comes to factory instruments that are CNC made its really all about quality control afterwards, hence this thread.
-
There's no expectation that a £765 instrument would be the same quality as a £2500+ instrument. The thread is about how the instrument compares to similarly priced instruments.

Hi folks, Does anyone have any experience with the Alpha Omega 500? What I am particularly interested in is the quality of the DI, and also the impulse responses that are loaded. I like the idea of having this for recording at home, but then also having the amp to use when live gigs actually start again. Any input would be much appreciated.

This is the one I have, I'm also in the position to tell you that Screwfix sells loads of them, and very rarely have any returned. The wolf craft trolley mentioned in this thread is also excellent.

I looked at the videos on the threads @wateroftyne suggested, and there was a lot of fret buzz. I'm sure most of it could be sorted with a good set up. Others are suggesting noise issues with pick ups and preamps, which would be really disappointing given they are reported as being genuine Sadowsky components as used in NYC built instruments. It could just be poor wiring accounting for this I guess, or worst case scenario the parts are licenced copies with cheaper components.

Nice one, what are the specs?

Mr Brightside - The hit that just won't die

This comment should win the day if basschat has any soul... But you don't have to be a soldier -
Haha that's how my bonus works. I buy my wife something nice so that she can't moan about me bringing a new bass home... This year I have a tasty fretless Alpher coming. Glad to hear you are getting some gigs in the books, hopefully Scotlands music scene will be back sooner than I think.

I would agree that I normally don't like the same word being rhymed, however this would probably be an exception due to the different use of the word. I am uneducated enough to find this clever, thus accepting it 😂

Monster rig! I am jealous, however I am trying to accept that I only play in an originals band, and will not have regular gigs for probably the next year possibly 2,so I have no need to have top class amps just now. It hasn't stopped the Gas though...

Was this listed on the 1st of April per chance? I sincerely hope it was...

Very true, if I'm honest once the stores are open again, I may well be one of those people going in to have a try.
-
Yes you are quite right, I was guessing that the OP had a passive bass as it sounds like he has VVT, but if active preamps minor tweaks can make massive differences. I shouldnt assume 😂
-
The other route you could go down if you like everything else about the bass is install a blend pot and have volume, blend, tone, as your controls instead of volume, volume, tone. I find that this configuration makes it easier and quicker to find a usable tone, and not have jumps in volume if you are making changes on the fly.

Pino Palladino Interview in Today's Guardian
Crawford13 replied to Teebs's topic in General Discussion
I would love to see the transcription of the interview, it feels like a 2 minute zoom call, then the writer talking about Pino's history. That being said I love that Pino is getting some press, he is in my opinion one of the finest of his generation.- 14 replies

When you say cancel each other out, do you mean tonally? I have a couple of PJ basses (it's my favourite set up), however in truth I don't believe you can really get a P bass sound, or a J bass sound out of them. I tend to look at the tone on offer as the warmth of the P bass with a little added clarity for the J Pickup.
-
Yeah I do know what you mean, the only reason I felt it appropriate here is because you have the metro line that's made in Japan with the Sadowsky name on it, where as the metro express line don't have Sadowsky name on the head stock, it just say Roger Sadowsky Design.

I would say that online tabs tend to have mistakes because they tend to be made for free by amateur musicians, I'm sure there are exceptions. Most can get you in the ball park and you can let your ears do the rest, but in my opinion the sooner you can ditch them to use your ears exclusively the better.
-
Has anyone tried the new Sadowsky Metro Express basses yet? £765 for a 5 string seems like a pretty good price if they turn out to be half decent...

Great advice so far, I agree with Downunderwonder, invest some time in getting your levels right between effects so that there is no noticeable sound difference between effects (unless that's what you want eg boost etc). Yes IEM is a good route to go for a wedding band.

@ProfJames this is the thread I mentioned on your thread.

It wouldn't necessarily be the pedal they would use first, as there are much cheaper Line 6 models. However it is in my experience what most bassist's that want a small package high quality multi effects pedal will end up with. It has most effects that you would want on it, along with amp & cab modelling. The downside to it is there is a learning curve to it, but once you invest some time with it it's completely worth it. Its worth having a long at the mammoth HX stomp thread in the effects section of basschat.

This is a deep rabbit hole, if you like to tinker and have some patience, I would hight recommend getting a Line 6 HX Stomp. This is used by so many bassist's and it's got huge potential. I would recommend picking one up 2nd hand and if you chose not to go down the pedal rabbit hole you can sell it on and not really lose any money.
