1.
I'm guessing that is the guy on Talkbass that posts billions of photos of his weird DIY basses for the most tenuous of reasons?
I've tried conversing with him before. Didn't get very far.
 2. I remember playing an old Rick 5 string in Denmark St years ago. A white one. Wonderful to look at but awful to play - cramped string spacing and a floppy B string. That said, Ricks do seem to be very popular for drop-tuning in heavy bands. In my experience this only really works if you're after that roaring, thick overdrive - I tried drop-tuning and kept my usual clangy Rick sound. It didn't work at all.
 3.
May be no help at all but if you can get it to mine (or I'll meet you somewhere), I'll do the postage or collection bit for you Karl. Might cost you a pint at some point in your life though!
Interested if this is doable!
 4.
By the way Ben, it's 5 years ago today I bought your Fenderbird.
Eerie! I've got another one since then 😁
 5. Why do you have to be at the opposite end of the country?! 😣
 6.
I watched a few videos on You Tube with guys gurning their way through various Rush tracks and feel that stuff like the one below might be the holy grail of tone. That said, the none of the basses I've pushed through the unit give anywhere like the tone this guy has. I don't own a Jazz Bass either...anyone in my vicinity who does, it welcome to give it a whirl!
That does sound pretty fantastic. I want one. Funny he should go to all that effort to capture the 'Camera Eye' tone with a Jazz when he's got a Rick there too
 7.
There was no issue whatsoever with either low end loss, or disappearing in the mix.
Amazing!
 8.
Just make sure you know what you want, exactly, because THAT is what you'll get.
I want that baby blue one with the Thunderbird pickups.
 9. If I ever went for a Limelight, it would look just like this. GLWTS
 10.
I'm a fan of Rickenbackers, but this is just hideous!
That is a monstrosity... What were they thinking?!
 11.
Saw them at Sonisphere in 2014, I was waiting for The Winery Dogs, and Chas and Dave were playing before them. Great fun and really got the crowd going, and yes, great Bass lines.
The crowd footage from that gig is the stuff of legend!
 12. If that's the concert I'm thinking of it was from the 'Yes Symphonic' tour. The orchestra didn't play on Roundabout so instead they came out front to 'boogie'. It's quite... awkward. The rest of the concert, however, is magnificent!
 13. I bought one last year when Gibson were having a massive sale - £649 I think it was. It sounded amazing, very 'grand piano', but was without a doubt the heaviest bass I've ever played. I knew instantly it wasn't going to last a gig so I returned it.
 14. I don't really buy into this theory... How does the string know how far away it is from the neck? I mean, a string with lower action surely 'moves' as much as one set up a bit lower? Also with adjustable pickups you should be able to keep the optimun height regardless of action. Happy to be proved wrong of course but it's never really made sense to me.
 15. Sorry to resurrect this old thread but I had the good fortune to see Chas and Dave last ight and Dave's bass playing had me dumbstruck all night. He's seriously good. I mean, I always had a lot of time for his playing but seeing him do it live was quite something. Nicely showy too, lots of harmonics and drop D switching going on. One of the tightest live acts I've ever seen - absolute demons the pair of 'em. Good drummer too A nice unexpected bonus was seeing Jackie Lynton supporting.
 16. Would you look at that!
 17.
I'm totally with you on the who thing. A few great songs, and four awesome soloists. It works, but I just don't get all the hype tbh
I do worry about you sometimes...
 18. I've never really got on with Cream but I love Jack Bruce. Luckily he made some wonderful solo albums!
 19.
??? One of your more surreal posts, my dear.
Apologies! The texture/pattern of the casing makes it look a bit wet. But undeniably attractive of course.
 20. Just bought Rick's EHX Switchblade pedal. As before, a pleasure to deal with - and it arrived the day after I paid for it!
 21. I used one for a while but could only ever use it on low-gain settings as I found it lost some low end as the gain was cranked. Sold it when I picked up a Bass Soul Food as it had a blend control. Still, the Glove's drive tone was lovely and would be perfect in a loop.
 22. I'm happy with Rotosound Roto Bass. I played the SS Swing Bass set for years but after a dalliance I realised I preferred the feel of nickel version. Roto bass are just unsilked nickel Swing Bass, but a lot cheaper. I didn't notice any major differences tonally if I'm honest.
 23.
John Entwistle comes to me in my dreams. Contrary to the serious, aloof character he portrayed on stage he is actually quite the prankster as he taught my how to play 'The Real Me' wrong.
