  1. A very reluctant sale, this. We have here a rather stunning replica of the fabled Fender '66 Slab Precision bass. Put together expertly and aged with immense care and attention to detail by BCer Rick's Fine 52. It's a stunning piece if work, clearly a labour of love. The maple-cap neck is from a Fender Roger Waters Precision and has been aged, amber tinted and has a rolled fingerboard. Period correct decal. Reverse tuners. The alder slab body was custom made to the specs of an original Slab. Nitro finish. The pickup is a Seymour Duncan Steve Harris which I originally intended to swap for something else but it sounds spot on so I left it in. I removed the signature though for aesthetics. It comes with pickup and bridge covers too. Tonally, it's what you would expect - a very bright and growly Precision. It definitely has that extra something thanks to the maple cap neck. Raunch. Viewings welcome!
  2. Not the best quality but you can see the glittery Epiphone here. Full glimpse at the end.
  3. My youthful inexperienced ears used to think that, mainly because it sounded very different to the Thunderbird on Pure, but also because he played a glittery one live when I saw them. However since watching the live DVD from a few years back I now believe it to be the Gibson after all... maybe on the front pickup?
  4. I loved those first two 3CR albums. Tapped right into my adolescent angst they did. Always thought they should have been bigger, but there you go. Revolt features one of my favourite bass tones - not sure how he did it though, it's very different to the tone of the first album, so I assumed it was a bass other than the Thunderbird. Then I saw the live DVD and there it is!
  5. I don't think a rotary emulator is strictly necessary - I used an EHX Pulsar and it sounded very similar to my ears.
  6. I can post, I only have a gig bag for it but will pack very securely. As for the weight... Don't know. I'll have to come back to you on that one!
  7. Completely forgot I had these! These came with my Fender Geddy Lee Jazz when I bought it about 12 years ago. The mirror scratchplate was on the bass at first and has some minor marks. The grey one was never used. £20 the pair- collection from Dartford or can post at buyer's expense.
  8. For sale, my trusty Yamaha BB424X. This was my main bass for a couple of years but doesn't get played much these days. It's in superb condition, no marks or dings to speak of other than some very light swirling to the back of the body. Strings still have some zing to them. Collection from Dartford or can meet somewhere near. No trades thanks!
  9. Used but in excellent condition. In original box. £40 collection from Dartford, £45 posted.
  10. I don't know if they've changed their stance in this but Gibson never sold Tbird pickups in the past as the originals were guaranteed not to go wrong IIRC. Bartolini make a pickup matching the size and shape but I don't think it's a tonal match.
  11. They look different - are you able to post pics?
  12. I find these bizarrely appealing.
  13. Cor!
  14. I agree... I love the green one but the knobs dont quite match the rest. In keeping with the rest of the bass I think some gold metal ones would do the trick.
  15. Not quite - Ron Grainer was the composer, Delia was the arranger. Not to belittle Delia's contribution in any way - her work on Doctor Who alone is of colossal importance, truly astounding. There should be statues of this woman.
  16. I wish they'd stuck with the batwing headstock, it was an important part of the overall look.
  17. Not getting much of an idea of the tone, but Scott definitely knows his Thunderbirds - his comments are extremely encouraging!
  18. Good lord...
