1.
Me, I love it, and would I much rather hear bass playing solo material, by a player with proficient skills and artistry like Michael Manring or Steve Lawson, than someone belting out dull old bass lines on a P bass strung with flats, no matter how 'locked' in they are with the drummer.
Forget about those dull old bass lines on a P bass strung with flats. What do you think of the songs they're in?
2. Someone buy this. It's the most a-peel-ing amp I've ever played. If you have a 4-ohm cab, volume will not be a concern....
3. Little walks and chromatic runs where needed. I tend to do a lot with note lengths, too. Palm muting comes in handy for this stuff.
4.
Here's Peggy ripping it up on some jigs & reels with Fairport in 1976:
In a similar vein, here's how we do it 'round our way... http://youtu.be/es6IlzWacGs?t=2m24s
5. A great tune. I actually prefer the alt. version with Dave & Rog's vox... I've got loads of faves... Echoes, Sheep, Not Now John, Fat Old Sun, SOYCD... just a great band.
6.
Flats arrived yesterday. Only had a chance to play with them through my little practice amp so far but already I can see what all the fuss is about a P with flats and I'm loving the feel too - including the increased tension as it goes. Can't wait to play through the full gigging rig at the weekend now .
Excellent... stick with them until they soften up. If you're finding them a bit 'grabby' at first, give them a rub doon with a cotton t-shirt.
7.
I think I thought of the flame because of someone mentioning it here
Ah, that was probably my fault :-)
8. Anyone got a decent close-up of a Sims guard? Is the stuff they use proper tort, or printed?
9. As we know, amps like this are loaded with all sorts of power management bits and bobs, so you can't compare volumes based on watts alone.
10. Good luck with the search. Spitfire do the only ones I've seen that look anywhere close, but they ain't cheap.
11. I doubt there'll be another punk (or Beatles, for that matter), precisely because of what you suggest - the music scene is so fragmented now. The best we can hope for is another Nirvana - something that gives the mainstream a kick up the arse.
12.
we're in desperate need of a Nirvana right now
I couldn't agree more... it's definitely time to get out the sweeping brush.
13. Blues? Funk? B.B. King & the Crusaders, surely? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NFF7oxIqQtw
14. I'm half-tempted to merge this with the epic Beatles thread we already have...
15.
maybe the problem is with Cliff and his like is they try and get it too perfect, it loses the edginess
Cliff was old-school. The Beatles - at the time - were from a different place.
16. IME most affordable small combos are toys. You need to shell out a bit for something decent. The Ibanez Promethean does it for me. Why they pulled the plug on it is a mystery to me.
17.
Btw, I wonder if between us we've made Somerset the county with the biggest M ownership in the UK?
I dunno - there's a fair few in Tyneside now :-)
18.
The Shads were always better without him.
Always..? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IXTvZ8UVJvw
19. Apologies for the hijack, but if you're not committed to Wix yet, I'd take a good look at Bandzoogle too.
20. Cliff, man... what are you doing??
21. SImilarly: Monster Cables vs. Coathangers. No-one could tell the difference.
22. Here's a little clip from a gig this weekend.. you can get an idea at 3:10 how rich the DI is. It's sometimes tricky getting that kind of definition with flats. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dDe22sXRDMg
23. Something from last night... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dDe22sXRDMg
24.
I understood the fb post as 'this is our new model called Mopped'. That would be a strange name though. What's even stranger is only one knob, volume I suspect?
I was hoping the name was a typo...
25.
Very possible, however I didn't think Adrian did "custom" builds?
...but that's not to say he might not try something new from time-to-time...?
