1. I suspect it's the first, and possibly only so far.
2. If someone buys it, they were happy to pay the price. Hi-fives all round.
3.
Awesome, is the wattage halved?
I think it's around 250w...? And yes, hit NancyJ up if you fancy a go of the Red Fighter...
4. Oooh... there's a new case style, too...
5. Yeah - I use mine at 8 all the time.
6. There's an English page for the R-400 up on the website now.
7.
They must have been strong drugs you were on it the 80s. Buzzcocks only started in 96
I think he's saying that PB didn't make any impression on him in the 80s, and that he only knows him from being on the telly a couple of times since.
8.
It would be a coincidence if it were true. But the ICEpower modules used in bass amps are power amps with an integrated power supply made to run on 120V/230V AC mains supplies, and car audio gear is made to run on a 12V or 24V DC battery supply. So I'd hazard a guess that the same modules are not being used in car audio.
OK - I'm learning stuff here. Still don't like it :-)
9. Ah... my entire contributon to this thread has been even more nonsense than usual. I thought we were taking about the TH500. Ha ha.
10.
As a moderator you are entitled to your opinion like anyone else but should not make unsubstantiated claims. ICEPower amps are designed for many purposes and the ICE part refers to the cool running not In Car Entertainment. There are many great Class D power sections out there from Companies such as Hypex, Pascal, Powersoft, Abletec and yes ICEPower. Of course it won't make it any better but you could put an output transformer on one of those to get the weight and Heft if you want. The SWR, Ampeg, Mesa heavy amps sound great because there are well designed not because they have a big old transformer at both ends. The TH500, in my opinion, is not well designed and it uses an underpowered module and poor heat management. If there is such a thing as heft, Aquiler have designed it out of the Tonehammer amps. Yes I am tetchy, I have the flu!
Settle down - 'car radio amps' is my tongue-in-cheek name for the micro crowd that use the ICE module. That the same modules are also used by charvas in their cars is just coincidence :-)
11.
You sounded bloody good (and pretty hefty) through my (very lightweight) rig at the Central bonny lad! ;-)
And yourself! But then the MarkBass doesn't use the car radio amp most of the others do :-)
12. I don't like to compromise tone or light weight (IMO) - that's why I've got what I've got.
13. A fair cop - just woken up, teeny tiny phone screen, no glasses, etc. :-)
14. *whistles nonchantly*
15. ...and yes, before someone points it out, if I learned to read music or at least TAB I could explain it more clearly. It's a fair cop :-) .....and I've just remembered the solo / middle 8. I'll have a look later if I think on.
16. Okey doke... the kids are occupied for 10 minutes, so here's an approximation of the bass part.. and it is only that!) Sorry it's not particularly accurate or thorough, but hopefully it's enough to get you started. Bruce Palmer was a fairly unorthodox player, so some of his note choices are a bit off-the-wall. For the main riff he plays something like: D | D | A | G# | C | C# | D Hope this helps... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=syyLBSFm2pg
17. IMO, the bass part for 'Tea In the Sahara' encapsulates the 'less is more' ethos. It's especially remarkable given the prevailing trends of the time. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RcEumfNE9vM
18.
For those of you only using minimal PA - any of you using an SVT Classic with two large cabs as your bass backline?
I've always found an SVT and one fridge to be overkill, never mind two* *Disclaimer: I the bands I'm in rarely ROCK OUT.
19. If I get a chance tonight, I'll have a look...
20. I'm quite happy to gig with just backline if the circumstances allow it. Quite often, bands use a bliddy big PA in pubs when there's just no need for it.
21. I'm going to struggle to be convinced that the power stage in, for example, a commonly-available 900w micro bass head genuinely puts out as much as a pro-audio equivalent power amp. When it comes to playing bass, it's not about how loud it is. It's what it's doing with the volume that counts.
22. If you zoom in, it looks like the S/N has been photoshopped out..?
